Vikings: I'm going to try to keep active ponds - probable nothing under 4 day moves since there is still a good chance that I will take some time away from the computer upcomming... plus not going to get the 50+ ponds at a time like I did before.
I agree that if you could make ponds for fellowships, or limits that are enforced - and maybe a "blacklist" of known cheaters & unwanted players would be nice ----- But to show who is signed up is a simple solution. (Since again it is not really hidden - I can search through a lot of profiles and find basicly all who are signed up for a dark pond now.... if I wanted to waste the time to do it.... so it is not really hidden now, just not convenent.
It's still cheating. Getting an advantage over the rest of the competition because of advanced notice of another player's move is clearly cheating. Proving it is quite another matter.
I suggest an independent panel. If someone thinks there has been cheating then the panel will adjudicate and eliminate the offending player(s). Proof isn't needed, just a fair hearing. :)
BIG BAD WOLF: What I would like to see is a way to make a game an invitational without having to take the time to copy and past and having to kick people out
Right now, dark ponds are set up so you do not easly see who signs up.... BUT that is not really true because if a person has the time, you can easly look in a persons profile and see if they are playing in a dark pond or not.
What I would like to propose to Fencer is that for dark ponds that we can see who is signing up. (But of course once the dark pond starts, players names and such are hidden to keep it as a dark pond.)
Advantages:
people who want to set up ponds with certain BKR limits will be able to kick out players who do not meet it.
people who want to set up ponds for certain fellowship members will be able to kick out players who are not members.
people can kick out known cheaters (or for those who do not consider it cheating - people who play unfairly)
people can avoid playing in dark ponds with people they do not like
Disadvantage:
I can not really think of once - SINCE right now you can find out who is playing in a dark pond by searching players profiles to see if they are in the pond.
= = = = =
So what do others think? Do you think we should see who is signing up? If not, reasons why not?
grenv: I agree, or at least I would call it poor sportsmanship, but it's not our call, Fencer has 2 reasons that he does not consider it cheating, 1.) It is a multiplayer game and therefor does not fall under the same guidelines as other games here. 2.) This isn't a reason it is not cheating but rather an excuse for not calling it, there is no way to prove it, even though in your example it is admitted.
Vikings: I've seen others do it. It has to be considered cheating. I don't care too much since I'm playing my last 2 ponds now (lost it's interest) but on principal it is wrong.
Just to let you know I am back from our 2nd vacation. Those of you that won the ponds that I was close to winning. Congrats! Now I am back no more vacations and look out..No more giving them away.. LOL
My hubby didn't let me know we were going away again when I signed up ..
Sorry about that.
BARB
Czuch Chuckers: Actually I did not play since I was (and still will) be taking some real vacations, and ponds don't have vacations - so I stoped signing up for new ponds. (I'm still playing 3 with longer time limits - and I will probable sign up for a couple more once those are over so I will never be without ponds - but I'm going to try hard to not have 50+ ponds going at the same time like I have in the past.... plus with ponds that probable have at least 3-4 days per turn.) I don't mind losing, but I hate to lose on a time-out.
BBW, I am very disappointed that in order to maintain you ranking you did not even play in the 10 wins pond!!!! What a copout that you use the excuse that you are trying to get your gamecount down to avoid playing ponds! I can probably find a post from 3 years ago where you used the same excuse for playing you games too slowly, that you had to many games goind and needed to get the count down. You have had too many games for many years now, and the excuse is lame, IMO.
Now it is really none of my business what you do or why.... the point is that I am disappointed thet the best pond player on this site will not even play in one of the most prestegious pond games ever played on this site, no matter what you lame excuse. Shame on you! ;)~
grenv: Ah, but you did not specify that it needed to be an honourable win :) ... as you might hav guessed, all I was trying to do was test the extent of the envelope

grenv: Although that might be the case there are times when the lower player might win ... carrying over a low and now losing bid from the previous round by not entering a new bid for example.
BIG BAD WOLF: Actually the system really should end the game with 2 players left. Highest score wins. Forcing another round is a little like forcing a king capture in chess instead of stopping at checkmate.
wellywales: You don't get 500 points for winning, you get 500 points for having the highest bid. (Which of course does no good on the last round - but the system still gives you that reward!)
Vikings: Thanks, I have never played before and there only 2 of us left, I have 1001 points the other person nil, so! I can put 1 or 1001 points on Yes? (first time lucky I think)
wellywales: first of all, left over points means nothing, so don't be afraid to use them. 2nd the ratings works simmilar to other games with the exception that an average is taken from all the people you beat vs. all the people that beat you. so you do not have to win to gain bkr. It all depends on the BKR of your opponents and their finish vs. your bkr. I know that is a simplistic answer but it really hasn't ever been explained much better.
Bottom line-WIN, and if you can't win, finish in the top 5
Not sure how the BK rating works on ponds, do you get points if you don't win and does it pay to have as many points as possible at the end if you win?
ginifish: while Clays suggetions is a valid one, I would suggest clicking on the winners link at the top of the page, and choosing any of the top 10 winners, then look at a few recent games that they have won, you can go through them round by round and get an idea on how to bid, then play a few ponds (it takes a few to get the handg of it)_good luck.
i still have no idea what a pond is, nor how it works, even after reading the rules..what is bid on, and i am confused...but, then, i'm getting to that age where that happens alot...can someone please tell me where to find a spoon, so that i can be spoon fed???
It is a shower pack....Sea Spa Body Scrub...Seal Spa Body Lotion....Sea Spa Body Wash it also has a Lobster Mest Beach Bag....I know there are no beaches In Czech :) But there is also a lovely blue swimmer crab as a Key ring....and a real big red lobster for a shower companion HAHAHAHAHA
I bought this present before I realized that Czech wasnt on the coast line but it can be used in the shower.....it is a FUN pressie :)
I hope he likes it, as Im sure he will..
PEDRO.....I will save this for about a fortnight- 3 weeks as I want you to be home when it arrives :)
Vikings: LOL I found that out. So if I bid way over it will use that bid until I run out of points or fall in the pond. I think, I have it. Right now I seem to be falling in on my own. I may not have many to worry about when I leave the last week of Aug. LOL Thanks Vikings.

Pbarb2: there's nothing to look for, it will automatically use your last bid over and over until you fall in, just make your last bid before you go higher and your set.
I see what you are saying now. I think it could save a couple of mine anyway. My hubby didn't tell me we were going to go anywhere when I signed up for them. With my arm problem we were kind of living day to day for awhile. I only have two more moves on the one I am winning so will be here yet. :)
OK, will go look for the auto thing. Thank you all very much for your help.

Vikings: OK, I posted it on the Feature Request board and directed Fencer here for any additional imput. The more I think about it, the better I like the idea.
grenv: Works for me. It'd be a nice easy set up on one's game page too. It should certainly make things fair for everyone and lessen the burden on the person that has a true emergency or unexpected absense come up. Though I doubt if it help someone to play 10 moves in advance, it could at least save them a few points in a game and they could still have a chance after missing a move or two for some unforeseen reason.
(sakla) If you click on a person's name and then click Finished games you will have a list of games that have been completed, then click on the name of the game to get a summary of all of these games, then click on the name of the game again and you will have a game to view and analyze.
