the editor-bug has only occured if I used 'back' of the browser
instead of clicking at the piece on the board to remove it,
as probably intended ... - then only clearing the board helped. ~*~
Fencer: As mentioned by danoschek below about Crazy Screen Chess, in one of my Screen Chess games I'm trying to set up pieces, and once I place them, I can not remove them to place them elsewhere.
a great game, just a suggestion to throw around, is it possible when one has a win for the other to see where the boats were (since they could not be found ) lol thanks
Emne: Re: I've suggested an approbation time for new sign-ups weeks ago.
I suggested it (in the future, but traveled back in a time machine to suggest it again) a few months ago. My thanks to both you and ArtfulDodger for supporting my idea®™.
That would work too BBW although it would require a bit more maintenance. My idea, which is similar to the one used on yahoo groups, would automatically fend off those like "slam" (and any others) that sought to disrupt a forum though undeserved "slams."
The only drawback is that the moderator would have to approve messages of posters until they are put on regular status. But, once approved, they would be free to post unrestricted. A powerful tool for the moderators and a way to keep the forums clean and foil attempts of some to disrupt.
If such a system would be easy for Fencer to setup, he could also use your idea as well so that several moderators share the work. I don't think the amount of posts needing approval would be a problem.
Emne: I've suggested an approbation time for new sign-ups weeks ago.
and it's funny that someone who's, by his unchanged iyt-attitudes
of background-spinning, major responsible for some board trouble
(as documented), sticks it at his banner - transparent, if a flatus
evaded you, quickly look accusatingly at your neighbour. ~*~
Maybe for the "trouble" forums, there should be multiply Moderators (2 or 3 different Moderators) - that way there will be more of a chance of one of them to be on to edit/delte post and/or ban people.
Fencer, this is not a huge deal but IMO would help aleviate some of the problems in the general chat area.
This idea would apoly to all open forums (open to non-members).
Could something be set up whereby all new non-members (I'd exclude members as they are not the problem here) are automatically put on "moderated" status for posting privledges. Moderated status means that a person is free to write a post but it won't actually get posted unless it gets the approval of the moderator. Once a person "proves" him or herself, they are placed on normal status. If they become a problem for the moderator, they could also be placed on moderated status. (even 'no posting" privledges if necessary)
What will this accomplish? We will foever avoid such nonsense as we are currently subjected to by "sLaM" and those like him.
I know you are busy with other things and I may be one of but a few who think this a good idea. I run a Yahoo discussion list (only 500 total members) and they have a similar feature there. It's helped me avoid many drive-by "slams" and helped keep the peace. Plus, it's not that time consuming.
I have no idea how that would affect the time of the moderators here. Just a thought.
Fencer, in the message we get when we win or lose a game, could you put a link there that would take us directly to the tournament it relates to (if it is a tournament game) so that we don't have to click on the "show game" link and then the tournament link? I play a lot of tournament games (currently over 400), so it would save me a lot of unnecessary clicks...and I'm sure other players would find this more convenient as well. :)
You can also cut and paste the chess board into a word document. The pieces are pasted separately and can therefore be cut and paste around as needed. Ctr-z can be used to undo moves!
tonyh: I know it's not the answer you are looking for, but what I would do is get some blank overhead projection sheets (Clear plastic paper), put them in a small binder. Get some dry erase markers and just draw your boards out. Very easy erase/write - you can make your board "big" and put a list of 3-5 pieces you might think is in a certain spot, etc... a lot more then what you could probable do with an on-line note board. (plus easier then to have Fencer program it also!)
anyway maybe in the player list you show how many regeristered players there are anyway to show there how many are members...maybe when people see how many of the people that are here are members it might help plus im curious also haha...
Fencer: I meant could we have a Dark Chess analysis board in Games Editor, so that we can set up where we think the opponent's pieces might be.
Kevin: does that answer your question?
Yea, one of my big things I would like to see is have any personal notes moved closer to the board (possible right above it) - or possible give users an option of where they would like it.
I ALWAYS will play a move, go down to submit and BOOM - Opps, there is my note from last time of what I was planning to do - so I would have to backup and do the move over again - that is if I wasn't in a rush and already hit submit while I was reading my own notes... :-(
i know this has been mentioned b4, by myself and others but is there in development an option to be able to edit the notes on games at any time, especially when not making a move. while on the subject are there plans to move the notes to around/above/ below the game so that they can be read without scrolling down and back up etc, its just that u/i forget which games i've made comments on, even with the small no. of games i play. thank you, great site..
I have been asked by a number of players when inter fellowship tournies will start.. or perhaps I am using the wrong term.. They want to know when we can play tournies with other fellowships? Many are waiting on this now
Any ideas on how soon before this happens??
3. Domino Gammon.
- You start the game with choosing 3 domino tiles (or randomly assigned). So for example, you have a 2/4, 6/6, 0/2. Well on each turn, you can choose which one of the 3 tiles you would like to use to move your backgammon pieces. So for example you can choose the 6/6 as double sixes. After the turn, that piece is replaced with a new domino piece - and you keep the 2 unused pieces until your next turn. What this also does is the other player DOES see your tiles, so he will know the 3 possible "rolls" you will have and can plan his move around it - keeping you blocked for instance. Also, if you do not have any moves with any of your tiles, when you pass - you can also replace a tile with a new tile.
BBW, I like those ideas, but what would happen in dark backgammon, if you had doubles, and tried to land all four moves on a place where your opponent had more than one piece? Would you lose all four pieces?
I have a couple of ideas for a couple of game variations that I would like to see.
1. Dark Backgammon Race (or Regular/Nack/Crowded?)
- Basicly just like regular backgammon. You don't see ANY place that you don't have your own piece, so you will never be "blocked" and allowed to move to any place.
Now when you move to a place that is open, your piece stays there. If you move to a place that only has 1 opponent piece, you take it like normal gammon. If you move to a place that has 2 or more oppenent pieces, your piece will be placed back to the bar like it was taken out.
So this game would involve a lot more strategy - making you want to set up many places of 2 or more pieces to take away your opponents pieces when they land on you.
I believe this would be better as Dark Battleboats Race. Also I'm debating if it would be good to hide the opponents dice or not.
---------------------
2nd game idea!
---------------------
2. Backgammon Attack.
- Basicly it is the same as Backgammon, but with the rule that you can also win once you land and move your oppenets piece to the bar for the 10th time. I also think this would be good as Backgammon Race Attack - since then you could try to keep many of your own pieces in your own bar to come out and "attack" unprotected pieces that have been places in your area.
BBW (BIG BAD WOLF)
*** Note: I've added a copy of this post on the Backgammon and Nackgammon Discussion board so if you have coments on this idea, you can post them there!
i dont mind there not being a next round kevin .. just the confirmation of the win on the winners page , i won the same amount of wins as erika ,her name has gone on the winners page but mine hasnt ...so yes there is a bug ... why do i play games ?? to see my name on the winners page correct ?
how come i didnt get a win from this game we both won the same amount of games but only awarded erika as the winner (either we both should have got a win or had a next round ) this just isnt fair
heres the link to what im on about
http://www.brainking.com/game/Tournaments?trg=548&tri=2372
That would depend on your resolution - on my 800x600 it put even the first game on the list off the screen (although i do have the top 3 BKR listed on my main page) :-)
Emne: Re: backgammon doubling cube-answer to viking's comment
Vikings:
If the ratings took into account the value of the game (i.e 2 after a double) then you may not accept a double. Also if a gammon was worth double and a backgammon triple.
Better would be points matches. If this was introduced it would need to be a different game and the ratings start from scratch.
