Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future.
If you experience connection or speed problems with BrainKing, please visit Host Tracker and check "BrainKing.com" accessibility from various sites around the world. It may answer whether an issue is caused by BrainKing itself or your local network (or ISP provider).
coan.net: Yes, you are right. Either solution would require programming and testing, which I currently don't have time for. Anyway, I don't think it's a critical issue when people can play unlimited number of tournaments.
MadMonkey: I have been wondering how I could miss the "go to next pawn member". Now I know. Looks like I had disabled this option on my Settings page and completely forgot about it, so I couldn't see it during the testing process. I'll look at it now.
Teema: Re: Limit players to one game against me at a time
Thad: I removed it because the algorithm was written very ineffectively and caused occasional performance problems. When I find out a better solution, it will be added again.
Teema: Re:I don't care how many morons of the first group leave BrainKing. In fact, I would be more than happy if all of them get out of here and never come back.
(V): Because I do it only when I decide to do so. It is my site and my decisions. And I am not interested in your messages. Spamming is not allowed.
Teema: Re:I don't care how many morons of the first group leave BrainKing. In fact, I would be more than happy if all of them get out of here and never come back.
(V): Maaaan, I don't care how many people pay for memberships. BrainKing has been living on a more interesting source of income for more than 5 years. So it's not about money, trust me.
(V): Dude, you don't want to see an answer because no matter what I write, you won't like it. You know it, I know it. Ergo, answering is illogical. I haven't noticed a question, anyway.
Let me give you some hints:
1) This is a game site, not a chat site. You are free to play games, create tournaments, join fellowships etc. Regarding discussion and private messages, you have no rights here.
2) I am quite busy with more important things and I don't have time to observe and evaluate every clash of idiots. When I decide that someone is abusing other people or simply acts as a moron (periodically), I just click the ban button and don't think about it too much. Deal with it.
3) There is a small group of troublemakers who continuously make problems and probably think that it's their right to post anything they want and send as many annoying messages as they want. Then, there is a big group of normal people (more than 95%) who are happy to play games and never make any problems. I don't care how many morons of the first group leave BrainKing. In fact, I would be more than happy if all of them get out of here and never come back.
As long as I own this site, these rules are set and won't be changed. No matter how unpopular it could be.
skyw7: It's been a long time since I played go for the last time, so I am no longer sure how to determine dead stones. Please send me the game ID and coordinates of opponent's dead stones.
MadMonkey: I can hardly explain what I don't understand myself. But my guess is that you can use Brains to pay for tournament fees in order to win more Brains, so it is probably considered as gambling, although there is no way to change Brains back to real money. Don't ask me what sort of moron came with this ridiculous conclusion.
rod03801: I am afraid not. Some companies (PayPal) seem to be too paranoid to understand that it is not a gambling. There is no point to fight a red tape.
There is always something to learn. If you want to build a multilayer system, never use Cherokee web server as a front gateway. Especially not on a 64 bit environment.
crosseyed: It means that database server has been restarted and it usually takes a while. I don't see a point in commenting every unusual event that happens here, especially after I wrote about it in Server News.
coan.net: Yes, I think that image loading could be the source of problems for some people. We will try to tune a couple of parameters and see if it helps.
crosseyed: Actually, I've got messages from you only and nobody else is complaining. Anyway, if you don't get an instant response, it usually means that I am either too busy at the moment or I don't know the response yet.
crosseyed: As I have said, our tests prove that BrainKing is not to blame. However, I can investigate and ask some network gurus if they come up with new ideas. That's all I can promise.
As I have mentioned in the Server News, we are still in a process of tuning some servers parameters, just to make sure that everything is balanced to the best performance. However, it is very unlikely that if a problem occurs and it is actually caused by the site, it would affect only a few users. In 10 years of our existence, we had solved many bad situations and all of them had been caused by global issues - affecting the whole site.
By the way, I never said that I am the best programmer in the world who can solve every possible problem. If a buggy situation just happens and, after trying my best, I find out that I am out of ideas and no solution works, well, we must learn to live with it.
I have a 30 Mbps cable connection at home and although it is a very fast line, there are still many sites that work incredibly slow for me. I don't complain, I take it as a fact.
Dalmatiner: I've just checked your account, to make sure nothing is wrong with it. Logged in within a fraction of second, opened some games, browsed through various pages. No problems at all.
As you can see, there are many people who confirm that BrainKing is accessible and fast for them, as usual. Our internal tests that are running continuously show that all functions work normally, there is no overload and data throughput is smooth, showing no anomalies.
I don't say that people who has problems are idiots or don't know how to use their computers. On the contrary, it is quite possible that BrainKing is slow for some of them, because that's how the web works, naturally. My duty is to keep the site alive and, if a problem shows up, try to solve it. From our perspective, nothing unusual happens here and something wrong happens outside the server, we can hardly do anything about it.
crosseyed: From a user's point of view, nothing has actually changed, even the server's IP address is still the same. Host tracker confirms that BrainKing is accessible from everywhere. As temporary workaround, ask them to try another domain, e.g. BrainKing.cz, BrainKing.de etc., just in case it is a local DNS problem.
MadMonkey: Actually it works but it only tries to find a game of the same team match. I know that's not the expected functionality. I will fix it next week, just leaving for a couple of days.
Doris: Thank you. That's exactly what I meant. It is likely that people find out that some functions don't work properly but the most important functionality (play games) is not affected by any changes. It would be too risky to make too many changes as a one big update, and bugs are always around. Good news is that I am aware of most of them and it should not take too much time to fix them.
