In those few seconds when the teachers run round the corner, it's difficult to coordinate the excuse. Have you noticed how often double "f"s occur in the middle of words? This is because so many "F" words are deleted that the "F"s needed to find different niches, a pocket model of parasitism.

I think you created and maintain a wonderful site. Not only is there a diverse selection of games but it's also possible to have great fun without making even a move. Congratulations on your achievement and thank you very much for including me in your society.

Sure but GMT doesn't change so why does my clock change when it's set for GMT+9? These messages are timed at about half past one for me on this page whereas the time is only half past midnight.

I have it set at GMT+9 but it reads BST+9 during the summer.

A leak is a slow kind of thing, how about if I leak my own posts word by word over different and disconnected boards? A species of apolitical art.

One of the strongest tablut players is Skalpone, due to the situation at his university lodgings he has no internet access for at least this year. Why should he be deleted on account of this circumstance that's out of his control? And I definitely want to keep the eight or so games that I've played with him.

I dont want to lose from my records games that I've played, even if the opponent has only ever played one game, I dont want that game deleted.

Do you mean delete those who have never played? If a player who has played is deleted will their games be lost from the archive? I have various games with Danoschek that I wouldn't want to be deleted along with his no longer active account.

Are you suggesting that the figures reflect an increase in multiple identities and that there is no increase in actual individuals using the site? To test such a hypothesis only requires eliminating "pawns" from the study.

Thanks. The recent observation of 300+ members online certainly suggested as much.

I think they're in Murray's History of Board Games other than Chess. Why do you think a game like Lythande's should be drawn? The king has clearly been captured.

Linnaeus himself in his original record of the rules says a win if the king cant move. I agree that the king could move into that position as long as it had the possibility of leaving.

I just noticed I'm on someone's enemy list, of course I could be on dozens but how would I know? anyway, I thought it might be fun to ask that person "why?" but how can I do so if I dont know if they're online or where they are and I cant message them. It got me thinking about the whole enemy environment. It would be convenient if a person when putting someone on their list had to state reasons and a copy was sent to the "enemy".

If, god forbid, a person were to put Fencer on their enemy list would they become invisible and immune from messages as is the case with less exalted enemies?

What do you mean? I figured it was because of their game limits and cause they've no fellowships to visit.

Interestingly even though there are more pawns than pieces logged on the majority of players engaged in a BrainKing activity are pieces.

At the moment about 60% of the first page of online players are pawns.

Quite but those who like the site need to exercise care with ideas that might alter it's nature, ie behaving as other sites do.

The remarkable feature of this site is member involvement but the members are separate from the business angle. To maintain the present nature of the sight we (the members) need to support the business side without it over-running the social.

I'm not worried about how they feel about their ratings, ratings are a convenience for prospective opponents. Fine in the example at 2.5 percent it's clear, but this depends on their opposition, it's also at an extreme, there can be medium level payers with quite disparate percentages or the opposite effect can also pertain.

20. veebruar 2004, 17:08:11
ughaibu
What's the point? People dont play to get a rating, they play because it's fun. If pawns dont have ratings how are we meant to judge their suitability as opponents unless we trawl through all their finished games. I think it's a looney idea, you might just as well get rid of ratings all together.

I take it there's no potential legal problem with BrainKing making money from the prize tournaments(?) It might be an idea to make them a regular feature with fairly fast time limits, maximum 4 days to avoid the automatic weekend. Is there a possibility to waive the restriction on pawns competing in multiple tournaments if they play in paying tournaments?

18. veebruar 2004, 11:32:15
ughaibu
I think Linda J's idea is great, among other things by getting the ball rolling it puts members in the mood to make a difference. How about tournaments in other popular games, chess for example?

30. jaanuar 2004, 02:53:04
ughaibu
I often look at a game being played by random members currently online and it turns out to be very interesting, I think it's one of the best features of the site and I'd even like to get rid of "private" games as they strike me as antisocial. I dont see how there is any intrusion of privacy with viewing online players, if we could read the messages they were reading or writing I could understand but just to see where they are and to be able to view any game they might be playing is socially integrative, whereas secrecy is socially divisive.
