GI :) about 6 months ago or there abouts I brought this same thing up with a person that is know to us all, every game he had won on default...the default being the other side conceded defeat.
I was told that as he was in control of the game it was natural for the other side to resign.
I resign games of backgammon but only when the other side has all his within striking distance of home:(...it dont do me much good tho LOLOL
But for some one clever enough to have multiple nics (and there are a lot)they can show themselves as a super-power when in fact they are like a grain of sand in a big desert.
but my drawn games was something like 42..46..or something (which in itself is a phurphy-because of the big break down in Sept2003)...hehehe it is now 1...
Im not overly BKR orientated like some but it makes you wonder how TRUE are the other results...i lose probably 66% to 75% of my games so the rest look about right, but has anyone else noticed their games numbers have changed....
OH and before the crash last year I had won 2 tournaments, but I cant remember nor do I care, so that isnt a problem here...
Just in case this is a glitch (as opposed to a bug)
CurbYourEnthus record in Backgammon Race 25-0-0 and all againest the same person. Like LongJohn said game forfeited after 3 or 4 moves. I see the bkr is only 1300 but I think that both people sould be put in that bad corner we have, time out for like a week or so for tring to pull trickes on us in here. TYVM for ur time.
:o{P
I thought of one other thing that I dont remember seeing listed in changes.
The way of adding notes to yourself in games has changed.. No more text box automatically there. It's now a link, to bring up the text box..
Now if we could only get the note to show up at the top of the game on your next turn..
:-D
Fencer, I wonder if this obvious cheating should cause resetting of BKR or maybe it is just pure chance that gamer07 had to resign every game after 4 moves due to an impossible situation.
I would be interested in anyone elses interpretation on this situation.
Just stopping in to say Thanks to Fencer and everyone else for a site well done.. Thanks to all your hard work.. This is so kewl seeing faces with the players..
Using WebTV, you will only have to log back in if you 1) log out, or 2) Power off WebTV completely, (or switch webtv accounts).
Simply using "Hang up", or allowing it to time out after the 10 minutes keeps you always logged in here.
Sort of an advantage, yes..
To me it seems very similar. Like I said the formula is modified for brainking. I have played lots of backgammon games. I am over 2200. I play games with people 2000 or higher as rule. My game fluxuations are generally 8 points up or down depending on the result. That is similar to the chess formula. However like I said Fencer could answer this issue better than I can. He knows the modifications to the formula.
Like I said the formula was modified when Brainking adopted it for its rating system. I am sure Fencer could explain it better than me. Of course liek I said I play more for fun and less for rating.
Sure i guess there could be a problem. there will always be some who will not like it. But that is their problem and not yours. Everyone who is on a team in a fellowship should have an opportunity to play. If it were me I would let those who signed up first get the chance. If someone wanted to play but was too late in signing up then too bad. However then I would say whomever played in one tournament should give someone else who didnt play a chance in the next one. Or possibly do a blind draw and rotate the team each tournament so everyone would get a chance that wants one.
Brian1971: If this site really used the US Chess Federation formula, my rating would always be raised by less than 16 points for winning against a lower rated player.
I would agree with you about the rating fomula but like I said I dont worry too much about it. I figure if I win more than I lose, it will be a good number, if I lose more than I win, then it will be a low number. As far as fellowship teams, depending on the fellowship, you may be able to play team tournaments for your fellowship, if it is an open sign up offered for tournament. Meaning that the captains or Big Boss says first come, first serve despite rating. So your point of BKR meaning more, may not always apply. However yes it might mean something to some fellowship captains or bosses.
I have never cared about rating but since the rating decides who will be picked to the fellowship teams i think it will be more important now.
Must say that the formula is very weird if you lose 46 BKR if you lose to a player with a lot higher rating and only -13 if you lose to a player with lower rating. Should be opposite.
BuilderQ: It is the US Chess Federation formula. However it is modified for BrainKing. For instance if you beat a significantly weaker opponent you gain little or no BKR. If the formula was exactly applied you would lose points in this example. So if you can access the US Chess Federation Formula for calculating a rating number than you can figure it out.
First off I play for fun and ratings second. However remember the formula is a complicated one. There are a variety of factors based on both you and your opponent. Number of games played, quality of oppostion, wins-loss-draw record is taken into account as well as your current opponent that you beat or lost to. It is impossible to compare why you gained or lost more points than your opponent or gained or lost less points than your opponent. Their game record is going to be different than yours based their own record and game history and opponent history. I look at ratings as an afterthought as I use it to find games against opposition in the same range as me or higher. However if you play for the fun of it the rating number means very little.
While we are discussing ratings, consider this:
From: Jokl

Subject: Your opponent resigned the game (Chess) (show game)
You are the winner.
BuilderQ: old BKR = 1886, new BKR = 1910 (+24)
Jokl: old BKR = 1840, new BKR = 1813 (-27)
Game type: Chess
Why did I get less than my opponent lost, especially seeing as I had played LESS chess games in total?
Antje...i compared..you lost to a player who had 369 BKR HIGHER than you and you lost -46 BKR.
I just lost to a player who had 165 LOWER than me ..and i only lost -13 BKR.
cant be right?
i have a question about the BKR. (let me preface this by saying im not whining and usually dont care about my rating) Im losing a whole lot of points each time i lose, i was up over 2000, now im in 1500. ive been looking at the points im winning/losing, when i lose i lose i lose 40 some points, and even now when im 1600 and my opponent is 1900, i still lose 40 some points, i dont recall the difference being that dramatic before. am i just now more aware of it, or has something changed?
so if the luck of the dice is the usual decider, i need to win 2 to equal the loss of one game, and im dropping 40 points with each loss, ill be hitting zero before too long.
