I ask for information and I'm banned again???? I don't think I've been impolite, if there have been misunderstandings please be aware of that English is not my native language.
Please don't ban me again, or unban the other user, and talk to me.
Re vacation days: I didn't hack the system. There's a bug. If you set vacation days for the next year, the counter is not updated. Check my vacation days now to see the effect. That way it's possible to set the whole next year as vacation, and when the year changes these stay.
I've done a few things that are on the borderline of being legal, e.g. the vacation days thing. I'm not sure it's appropriate to discuss these things in public, all I ask for is to talk to me (privately) and clarify things.
BTW, as the other accounts are banned, I cannot access the message box. If you want to talk to me, send e-mail. Fencer, if anybody wants to contact me in this case, please give them my e-mail address (the one from the user 74364) (I don't want to make the e-mail address public).
And to point out another anomaly resulting from trying to fit the backgammon peg into the chess hole ... consider this display of the score in a tournament final round:
alanback: The probability looks quite high, though I'm not discounting totally other reasons. But that Fencer banned the person it suggests 'not a bug', so I guess it was a hack or something of the like.
Hi! I'm a second account of somebody_ I'm here to bring my case to the public. My account has been banned and I don't know why. I sent e-mail to info@brainking.com but I didn't receive an answer. I want to talk to the owner to defend myself. I might have been banned for a legitmate reason (though I don't think so), but in any case, I think I have the right to know the reason and to defend myself.
Please, whoever knows something about this (Fencer, maybe one of the global moderators) explain to me what happened. Thanks.
Teema: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
Artful Dodger: true that these situations wont occur that often ... but neither are many people abusing it
personally i do need 1 batch of vacation days per year for sure .. to be able to go on vacation(in fact its something that i do miss a lot on dialygammon .. on there i have to make someone else play for me while i am away .. that doesnt feel right) .. but it might happen somewhere in the future that i might be glad to have the possibility to buy some more .. but thats just me
i think the vacation days system on this site is great .. and better than what most sites have ... too bad though that its abused by a few people .... i have rather this with a little abusing that none at all though
Teema: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
Hrqls: Good points and in the end, I can live and be happy with whatever the policy is. It really doesn't negatively affect me anymore as it once did.
I did have one thought after reading your previous posts. If someone was having serious problems with their ISP or if they were long term hospitalized, I see no reason not to place a temporary adjounment to their games (for a limited amount of time) without the bother of having to buy more vacation time. Seems to me these types of situations would be few and far between. I know that if my ISP went down, I'd have multiple options to connect and send a message to Fencer. And if hospitalized, same thing. Plus, many people simply use their comptuters from their hospital bed. Exceptions like the ones you bring up are good ones. But I suspect that too often the vacation days are used as time out insurance. And if a person uses them that way, then when they truly need them (for real emergencies), and they have none left, no one is to blame but themselves. I suspect this would most often be the case.
Teema: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
Artful Dodger: agree .. i manage quite well with vacation days + weekends .. but there might be some events in the future where my normal amount might not be enough .. even if i wouldnt spend any vacation days at all during the rest of the year (i think i (brain rook) have 30 days per year ? thats 6 weeks .. which can easily be taken away by some of the points i named below
for normal days/years the amount of vacation days is plenty .. for those unlucky ones its possible to buy extra days
those who buy extra days even while they are not unlucky .. hmm .. let them be .. it doesnt matter to you .. the only ones it would matter to are pawns as those 'endless' games take up a game slot .. for rooks (and certainly for a block rook like you) 1 extra game in the waiting list in which its your opponents move should not make a difference
i agree though that a limit on the amount of vacation days would be nice .. but i can live and still be happy if it stays unlimited like it is right now .. why bother ? better have fun with what you do have :)
Teema: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
alanback: Excellent point. I just lost 800 US dollars becasue of a flight cancellation. Fortunately, I can use the flights in the future (but only for up to 1 year). Otherwise the entire amount is lost. And the cancellation? Due to an illness. Life.
Teema: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
Hrqls: All good reasons. All the more reason to use the days you have properly. To use them as vacations and emergencies is good. To use them to not time out on games because one has so many games, not good. Of course I go with the rules of the site. I just don't favor anyone getting any additional days for any reason.
puupia: Because I see a reason to do it. Ergo, it will stay there. You have always an option to upgrade your membership level and disable all advertisements.
Fencer: Why should you do something? Becouse the ad is obviously in completely wrong place. I don't see any reason to put ads into tips instead of annoying users. Why did you put that there in the first place?
Teema: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
"GERRY":Many life events interfere with our leisure activities. If I book a vacation and there's a cancellation fee, I can't go to the travel agent and ask for a refund because my boss decided to send me on a business trip instead. In most cases it's the same if I'm sick. Games just aren't that important, are they? And how do you measure the inconvenience to other players from granting extra time to the occasional unfortunate? Sometimes, the ball just bounces the wrong way, in games and in life. We're better off learning to deal with this reality than constantly asking for the world to take our burdens off our shoulders.
Fencer: The tip of the day section has very nice hints and tips on playing games and using Brainking. When browsing through those tips no-one expects to get a "hint" that you should buy a software (almost) completely unrelated to BK. If that ad was somewhere else, like where the rest of the ads are, it would be fine. But putting ads within those tips is just outrageous.
Isn't it a bit over the top to advertise a commercial product on the tip of the day? Ads should be put somewhere else. Tips of the day should be reserved for tips and hints about Brainking!
Teema: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
Artful Dodger: there can be many reasons, some examples - an unexptected longer illness - an unexpected change of jobs where internet access is more limited than your previous job - an unscheduled long vacation - an unexpected illness of a family member - unexpected computer / provider problems
the policy of vacation days (or even no vacation days) is different per game site
the policy of this site is to allow vacation days .. and at the moment the policy is to allow rebuying of more vacation days
Teema: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
(V):That's life Jules. No exceptions. No pity cases. Part of the games are the time constraints. If you can't meet them, you time out. I've played over the board tournaments for years and that's a huge part of the game. You don't get extra time because you don't feel well. Nuf with the excuses. You get so many vacation days a year so use them wisely.
(V): No one is being punished Jules. You get X number of vacation days a year. Use them wisely. If you have problems and need more, too bad for you. Stop playing so many games. I don't feel sorry for people who time out in games when they are given enough vacation days a year. It's unfair to other players when people get more days. You get what you get and that's it.
