Teema: Tournament for Dummies
crosseyed: I'm not sure what you are trying to acomplish by keeping this up on the tournaments board. I mean Fencer has already introduced Fischer clock games which basicly reward fast movers, plus he has introduced no vacation/weekends, and fixed weekend only games which also help keep the pace up. Heck, you can even make the time limit of a game down to 1 hour. These are all good solutions to people who want to play fast, along with just staying out of tournaments/games which do not have time limits which fit your need. (You don't see slow movers comin on here complaining about fast movers moving too fast and making their games time out.) Simple solution for everyon - just join tournaments that fit your time needs.

Now lets try to get back to talking about tournament:

►ALL games for dummies (under 1500 & unrated) #15

This tournament is for players rated 1500 or below - or unrated.

This is a great way to try out a new game, or play a game which you like but might not be the best at.... all without being "killed" by experts.

Tournament starts: Sept 30th

►ALL games for dummies (under 1500 & unrated) #15

BIG BAD WOLF: I am talking about tournament games. I can't help it if someone response to my post a week later or more. If you don't like it don't read it. I already know about fisher clock etc now. And from now on I will only play fast tournament games. But I will not play any fisher clock ones as I was once time-out with several games through no fault of mine because this site was not accessable to me.
As for this comment "You don't see slow movers comin on here complaining about fast movers moving too fast and making their games time out"
You have totally lost me??? 'time-outs'???
I might not like some of your posts but I don't say it.

juls31: All tournaments are listed under the tournaments link on the left side of the main page. You can set parameters and search for a certain type of tournament. When you find one, look at the number of games. If it is single elimination, you need 1. If it is one game for each 2 players, you need 5. If it is two games for each 2 players, you need 10.

imsoaddicted: the tourney would still run but only if there is enough players so for example, if only 4 people sign up and 1 of them gets removed the tourney would not run, but if 17 signed up and 3 were removed it would still run just with 14 players.

Edited after reading previous post properly lol... Not sure if it's the same for single eliminations you'd have to ask Fencer.

Teema: Re: Minimum number of players
Fencer: Unless your ratings changed after this seeding was made, it is not correct. Also, it is customary to list the ranking with the person.

Top bracket as 1-8
next------- as 4-5
next------- as 3-6
next------- as 2-7

If done in this manner it will makes it possible to have the top seeds meet in the semi final and the number 1 and 2 meet in the final. It is easier to follow using the numbers this way too. If the ranking were done with the top four seeds and the rest assigned randomly, then I suppose it's fine and doesn't matter. It certainly is an improvement. How did you do it?

Teema: Re: Minimum number of players
Walter Montego: Fencer's way is one possible way to do it. Your's is another. Another is 1-5 2-6 3-7 4-8, 1-3 2-4. It would be a combination of those 2.

Teema: Re: Minimum number of players
gambler104: You are right about that, but the method I was using lends itself to higher powers of 2 more easily. It also depends on how much importance is placed on the ratings, their accuracy, and the goals of the tournament organizer.

I like to think that the ratings are accurate with the goal to have the best players play each other for the championship and not knock each other out in the early rounds. I'st easy to group the people by adding one to the power of 2 for the number of rounds and then pairing them that way.
8 people is three rounds 2 × 2 × 2 + 1 = 9. 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, and 4-5 should be the first round pairings. If the rounds will not be reseeded each round, which is the normal procedure, the winner of 1-8 should play the winner of 4-5, and the winner of 2-7 plays the winner of 3-6. It's fairly straight forward to draw the tree graph using the numbers and keeping them like that. A few months ago some peole posted some good links for tournament organizers and also discussion various formats of it. Perhaps someone can remember where it is and maybe add the link to this page's title. I'm willing to bet Fencer made a note of it.

For sixteen players you use 17 as the number, thirty-two uses 33.
