Fencer: : sure fencer,I trust most people know this.
and i realize paying members opinions rate more than us other members.
and I know your are busy.
but its nice to give people a little feedback & let them know were we are going once in a while.
its nice to let them know you hear there questions.
doen't hurt to throw them a bone once in a while.

hey wait a minute, dont we have a newsletter page for BK here..I'll check.
If its good at being informative,it could answer a lotta questions about development stuff.
maybe it does,I'll check.

Teema: further to my last post here
if anyone has a site.and wants to grant access to others to help.
is it simply a matter of allowing multi-login privileges to a few?
can you set up several levels of access?
can people collaborate on something online?

I realize that a site is a lot of work.
and if you grant others access, they you have to invest some time governing the site.
but if the trade off is a lot of help,is it worth it?

..just curious about these things.

of course, they the"group" would have to"meet" online to discuss directions.

LionsLair: well maybe BK is on a chess kick for now,but this is a great site.
I have seen this site grow & add features much faster than many other sites.
and fencer is responsive to questions asap.
this is definitely not true with many sites.

I know, its just hard find a rating algorithm that reflects fairly under all parts of the "spectrum".

geesh maybe we should forget ratings & just keep track of wins-ties-losses.at least it would be definitive.

Teema: chess ideas..yea or neah?
from back gammon race thinking..how about" chess race".
play like regular chess.but play starts with ALL pieces off the board.
each move consists of either:
1-bringing a piece on board into its position or the closest one to it if it is occupied.
or
2- moving a piece.
---
"survivor chess"
a game for 3
play like regular chess.but with these changes:
play starts with a third colour king & queen placed on "setup" by the 3rd player on any free space on the board.
third colour player moves 1st.
then play is by turn for 3.
the 1st 8 pieces removed from the board, become the third players coloured pieces.
these pieces are "off board" but can be brought onto the board in place of a move like "chess race".

Teema: Re: Multi player battleboats
rod03801: re :Goldtoken's implementation of up to 6 player Battleboats works too.
---
yes, truth is I have played it a lot.it moves along surprising quickly with the few I play with.
we usually accomplish this by having a relatively short timeout( 2-3 days),but setting the penalty for a timeout as just loss of turn.
I might suggest if multi players game are implemented at some time here.to consider not allowing tooo long a timeout setting on the games.otherwise a multi-player game could be lengthy.

Teema: Re: I have mentioned this before..
Fencer: ty for commenting.to be honest ,I never thought of that.but of course it must be considered.if a player fails to move, possible options:
player loss of turn
player loss of game
and if loss of game, pieces removed / or not.
are there other alternatives?,what do you think is best?

Teema: wow
I think thats most imaginative board design I have seen.I've thought of triangles,squares,hexagons...but I think i would get seasick looking at that board...lol.
----
even thought about the pattern created with octagons & squares ,like this:
http://www.counton.org/images/explorer/morphing/semireg3.gif
was thinking about creating a game that would make use of the special relationship between these polygons..but thats as far as i have got..anyone got any inspirations about this?

Teema: I have mentioned this before..
..but would love to hear even a little feed back, hopefully from our fearless leader fencer.
well,as long as we are talking about game ideas.
what does everyone think of games in which you can play with 3,4( or more)players in the same game.
these can really be fun,but is it too difficult to code?
---
also fencer, another idea.several of us got talking about interesting math stuff in another board, and were (rightly so)reminded we were off topic.
so how about a board for:
strange and weird interesting science.
what do you think of the idea?

Teema: some MORE chess game variant ideas:
valley girl chess :: you can make a move without a mobile phone
los angeles chess :: you can make a move without a valet
manhattan island chess :: you can make a move without a doorman
new york bronx chess :: you can make a move without a ghetto blaster
mexican chess :: you have to sneak across the board

Teema: some chess game variant ideas:
alzheimer's chess :: you forget how to play
redneck chess :: the queen has buck teeth & chews tobbacco
republican chess :: you dont like to get to close the the right side of the board
procastinator's chess :: still working on the rules

Teema: Re: Hexagons
playBunny: of course its not specific...yes...thats overstating the obvious....to what point, who knows...
anyway..I am not simply suggesting a hexagon board game that uses all the same type pieces, there are many like that.
I am thinking of a strategy game with different pieces with different moves...like chess....I have searched...not found one really good.....I may create one.
I will get back when I have developed something.

26. august 2005, 05:12:24
nobleheart
Teema: fencer, whats your thoughts on this.
we all love chess like board games...many new variations have come out that explore new strategies..keep the classic games fresh, but most are on a board made of squares.
have you ever thought of a game based on hexagons.
strategy based on the hexagon as a base for moves is quite interesting.

25. august 2005, 22:34:25

Teema: I think I have a good idea
first I want to say,it is fencer's site.we may make requests, but we are in no position to tell him what to add or change.I just dont want anyone getting the wrong idea.

secondly tho,he seems fair minded & considers the thoughts of the community.
I think this is good for the commuity for so many resaons.I would list them,I sure we can all think of a few.

thirdly,a way of getting feedback without a lot unneeded posts(not that there is anything wrong with that) might be that fencer might have a page were he might take a poll on a subject or question say weekly or monthly.
he could provide several answers we could all get a turn to check one.

this would be a simple data input page..would be very easy.
what do you think fearless leader?

Teema: has anyone ever thought of this before?
I have heard that many people quit & start a new account.
many do this because now that they are experienced a bit.they want another shot at making their rating better.
there are 2 ways I just thought of to make this easier.
---
1-make a request text box that players could use to have their ratings reset to zero in their games.
OR
2-bring this all this to the attention of anyone signing up.and then having a elective period for a newbie within which they can play without it affecting their ratings.
---
it would seem this would save on having a lot of abandoned duplicate accounts.

had not worked that out the idea just came to me.
I love word games but so many places are afraid of making a scrabble clones because of copyrights they agressively monitor.

Teema: hey fencer
I have another idea for a game,a word game.
a board...8X8 squares.
each play takes turn placing a letter anywere on the board.
if you make a word, you score a points.words can be horizontal or vertical or diagonal.
play continues till all squares full.
2 letter word = 1 point
3 letter word = 2 point
4 letter word = 3 point
5 letter word = 4 point
6 letter word = 5 point
7 letter word = 6 point
8 letter word = 7 point
---
what ye all think?

Teema: Re: re game times
Pedro Martínez: what would be the point of waiting for unesseccary messages to be answered.the player could answer it once in his profile.auto messages could cover the rest.
example:
I play scrabble elsewhere.were you specify what dictionary you prefer,in your profile.
if an invitation is sent,it will prompt you with"this player prefers the sowpods dictionary, would you like to sent you invite anyway or auto alter it?"
