Some parts of the song sounded awesome, but then they go from one thing to another so often that it seems like a horrible mess. Anyways i guess i have to find out more about this band--
They have a drummer nowadays, although they still play sometimes with only cellos and i prefer it that way. Before they used a lot of different guests at drums (for example Dave Lombardo from Slayer has played on their records). Also they have used a lot of different guest vocalists (and other musicians) and some have even toured with them..
Finnish F1 driver Heikki Kovalainen is a big fan of Nightwish and apparently also friends with Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist, main songwriter and leader of Nightwish. Here's a video of them playing a few songs and having fun together!
I had good fun watching this vid. I had never before seen Tuomas play anything else than keyboards, and Jukka's performance on keys was phenomenal :) Also i had no idea Heikki can play the drums. But he does a decent job.
Band lineup- Heikki Kovalainen (F1 Lotus) - Drums Tuomas Holopainen (NW Keyboards) - Bass on song #1, Guitar on song #2 Emppu Vuorinen (NW Guitars) - Guitar on song #1, Bass on Song #2 Jukka Nevalainen (NW drummer) - Keyboards Toni Virtanen (Apulanta vocals) - Vocals
Tuesday: I'd say Händel is my favourite of the baroque composers. Here's an interesting arrangement of Alla Hornpipe from Wassermusik by Händel. Its refreshing to hear this piece played only with flutes! Beautiful.
Jim Dandy: This Belphegor song is probably the best song you have posted on this forum ever :) I like how they use three different languages even in same song. Its really intriguing trying to translate and figure out what they are singing about. Bondage Goat Zombie album is pretty much a tribute to Marquis de Sade..
Jim Dandy: I have become addicted already, its great fun with a bunch of friends. Guitars and bass are not really authentic, but even doing them is good fun. But my favourites in RB are drums and singing..
Jim Dandy: Oh you do play the drums? DId you ever play in any noteworthy band?
I like drumming a lot too. Only if i could do it properly :) But anyways i have played the drums in a couple of garage-coverbands. And in my teen years we had a punk band which was supposed to conquer the world.. but somehow it didn't.. Lately i've only been doing drumming in XBox Rock Band game :)
Other than that i can get quite a few classic metal riffs (somehow) out of a guitar and i really like to sing. Not sure if others like my singing though. Heavy Metal-karaoke bars are my favourite places nowadays :)
New song by Sacred Storm titled "Nuclear Flying Crystals" featuring lux on drums. Her drumwork is great, and i really like how she does everything in high heels :)
I only knew her from Nekromantix before i stumbled upon this. But Sacred Storm seems pretty good also, i think i must get to know this band better..
Teema: Re: Crash Test Dummies: God Shuffled His Feet
Jim Dandy: I used to like them a lot in the 90's. I really liked the whole God Shuffled His Feet album. Their sound was so different to most other music back then. But the lyrics were the thing that really caught my attention, they are awesome.
Their later work didn't just have the edge that this album had. But i keep coming back at this GSHF album, it's a masterpiece. I had no idea they are back together, maybe i should update my info on their history..
I saw them in the reunion tour with Rob. And they played Judas Rising eventhough Angel of Retributuion was not out yet. Always nice to hear unreleased material on gigs. Crowd seemed to like it then and i certainly did!
Here is a song from the headliner of the festival, Carcass. Other awesome bands will also be performing including: Suffocation, Macabre, Gorgoroth and Triptykon!
Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.
This darn chorus has been stuck in my head all day after some drunken SingStar gaming last night with some friends. Luckily its only the song in my head, little Boy Georges in my vision would more serious i guess.
Type O Negative frontman Peter Steele is rumored to have died of heart failure yesterday. The death news has been confirmed by fellow bandmate Kenny Hickey.
Jim Dandy: Very good question. Its not very easy to call the difference in those two even if you consider yourself an expert in the area. Sometimes the deciding factor is what the band itself says..
I'd say the biggest difference is in the singing. Death metal uses deeper growls and black metal higher shrieking voices.
Also the lyrical content is different. Black metal lyrics are mostly anti-christian, anti-society or anti-everything. Death metal usually tells about the darker things in life without too much judgement. But if you're not used to listening to the kind of vocals these genres offer it can be quite hard to judge by the lyrics.
Also usually death metal has slower tempos and lower tuned guitars. Death metal bands hardly ever use keyboards in their music and in black metal it is quite usual.
Anyways these genres are like very spicy food. Once you get into them the regular kind seem kind of bland.
Jim Dandy: Well they are Polish to begin with. And they used to play black metal earlier on, nowadays their music is more like death metal so they are called blackened death metal :P
I'm not a a big fan of these genre selections.. I usually divide my music into two genres, good music and lousy music. The first is the music i listen to and the second is the music i dont listen.
But if you have to describe music to someone else, genres are quite handy.
I haven't been to a good heavy metal show in a while.. But this saturday i will be attending a Behemoth gig. If you do not know it is a Polish blackened death metal band. Their latest album in my opinion is maybe their best and they also made an awesome video out of the "hit single" from that cd. Send me a message if you wish to see the uncensored version, this one is scaled down to youtube standards.
Teema: Making "Voodoo People" in Ableton by Jim Pavloff
Jim Pavloff once again shows how his magic works in software synthesizer. The reconstruction of Voodoo People is mindblowing, but of course it makes you wonder how Liam Howlett came up with that in the first place..
Teema: Making Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" in Ableton by Jim Pavloff
Many of you might remember the controversial song "Smack My Bitch Up" by The Prodigy from late nineties.
In this video Ukranian DJ and producer Jim Pavloff recreates the whole song in a software sequencer. He shows which samples and effects were used. And finally he puts the whole song together. Its really interesting to see how he works!
