Gammonator: When something like this happens, I always check host-tracker to make sure it is just a local problem, not a BrainKing one. Right now, the average response time (according to that site) is 0.61 seconds and only 2 places show a little higher latency - Thailand and Iran.

In other words, something is wrong on your side. It can be anything - DNS issues, proxy server caching problem, routing problem etc.

Can you post a traceroute output here? Open a command line in Windows and type "tracert brainking.com".

If you, like me are interested in upgrading/overclocking your system/cpu.. then you might find this program useful.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

It gives a detailed breakdown of your system, even detailing part numbers (eg motherboard) making research on what you can do easier.

And this site for info on overclocking an intel chip.
http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/1567-intel-overclocking-guide.html

***********************************

With the information I've read (do your research) I can overclock my CPU at a decent rate for about £10... ie just upgrade the heatsink/fan from ebay. It also can lead to you upgrading your cpu for a relatively cheap price (off ebay again) and thanks to a good fan/heatsink, increase the capability.

I've heard that Adobe is known to freely share their info with other companies via cookies etc. I believe someone here once mentioned an alternative to Adobe? I don't know how concerned I should be... I just had my little laptop reset so I have to download everything again, thought this might me a good time to investigate the Adobe issue. I know I'll need some kind of flash plug in too. Any input from all you computer experts on Adobe? Thanks!

Don't try downloading the new version of flash player & flash plug in 10...there is a bug. It would crash & then yopu have to reload each time. I'm wondering, how in the heck do I get back to 9.0? I went to the abode site & downloaded the zip file to get it. When I go to re-install it, it would take me to the site & they have #10 instead of 9.0

If you have Automatic Updates switched on you should be fine

Turn on Automatic Updates

The best way to obtain Windows XP SP3 is to turn on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP. To turn on the Automatic Updates feature, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Copy and paste, or type the following command, and then press ENTER:
sysdm.cpl
3. Click the Automatic Updates tab, and then click to select one of the three options. We recommend that you select the Automatic (recommended) option, and then choose the time that you want under Automatically download recommended updates for my computer and install them.
4. Click OK.

Even though it was only released just over 3 years ago, Microsoft have just ended support for the original version of Windows Vista. This means that if you are still using the original version of Vista and have not upgraded to Vista Service Pack 1 or 2, your Windows system will no longer qualify for support from Microsoft, including hotfixes to patch bugs and security problems. This means that if you use Vista you will need to upgrade to at least Service Pack 1 (although Service Pack 2 recommend) in order to keep your Vista system secure.

The 13th of July will also see the end of support for XP systems running Service Pack 2, meaning that if you are still using XP, you will need to upgrade to Service Pack 3 in order to keep receiving security fixes and updates. If you aren’t sure which version of XP or Vista you have, you can quickly check as follows:

1. Press [Windows Key] + [R].
2. Type WINVER and click OK.
3. The service pack version installed on your system will be displayed. Click OK to close the window.

I have been having NOTHING but trouble with slow slow slow Brainking.  My browser would always say "waiting for Brainking" so naturally I thought it was just here.  But, I started to notice that other sites were running as slowly.  So, I used my guest account on this computer thinking it was all the stuff that loads on my main account.  Nope, still ran badly.  Sooooo I switched to Google Chrome just for fun.  And guess what?  Everything is faster than lightening.  So I guess it is in my FireFox browser.  What could cause it to run so slowly?  Is it that script checker???  It's way too annoying.  I can go from page to page now at the click and load time is in a blink.  ;)

It's under options->contents, you have the checkbox for "block pop-ups", and on the same line a button "exceptions", where you can define which sites are allowed pop-ups. I remember there was a malware that filled that "exceptions" part with loads of sites. So even if you get rid of the malware, the exceptions are still there.

The IPad is not a laptop.

And it is - right now - poorly equipped!

There is no camera, no card-reader and not even an USB-Slot in it!

Right now, its just an object of prestige, an adults toy.

As a professional creative, i am using apple products for over 25 years now,

and i agree in the superb quality of the hardware, and the better stability of the operating system.

But as far as the IPad is concerned, i can tell you all to wait at least one year from now on if you think to buy it.

It wont push any laptop of the cliff (neither apple nor non-apple laptops) as long as the multimedia-abilities are that poor.

The apple leaders dont put a memory-card-reader inside to avoid storage-extension. It comes with a poor amount of GB though. If you, for example, simply want to import the pics of your non-apple digital camera, you need to buy additional adaptors cause there is no serial USB slot. You cant use videoconferencing cause there is no camera..... .

The touch-screen-technique is innovative and enjoyable. Not more.

But we will see in few days when the first iPads hit the market. Surely most of the very first buyers will be Steve's disciples, so we can't really trust the first impressions.

Jim Dandy: No no, its not all hype. All Apple products i have used have been excellent in their area. I'm sure iPad will be an very good product. And Steve is the god of marketing. Surely it will be appealing to some people, even outside of Steve-cult.

But it is not really going to compete with laptops, thus it will not "push them off the cliff". It does not have enough features to do that. Who is really going to need a thingy that will have less features than a decent laptop and it'll be much harder to bring along with you than a mobile phone?

A mozilla article on the subject:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mozilla_Suite_:_FAQs_:_Remove_IE#Remove_Internet_Explorer_from_Windows

Remove Internet Explorer from Windows

Although uninstalling Internet Explorer from Windows is possible, you are strongly advised not to remove IE, for a number of reasons [4]:

1. Many web sites are programmed to work only with Internet Explorer. For example, webmasters authoring a site may have not tested with other web browsers. The majority of websites on the Internet should work with Mozilla browsers, but there are some sites that appear distorted or inaccessible unless IE is used as a browser.
2. Windows Update requires Internet Explorer. As an alternative, you may be able to manually download security updates, but it will require more monitoring and work than letting Windows Update handle this for you.
3. Some applications depend on libraries installed by Internet Explorer. These applications may no longer work or they may behave unexpectedly if IE is removed.
4. Some anti-virus products require IE for updates. Live updates or automatic DAT updates used by both Norton and McAfee are built on Internet Explorer's foundation. You may be able to manually update your virus signature files but it could require more work.
5. Both removing and restoring IE is risky and difficult. IE is complex with extensive hooks built into Windows, for efficiency and functionality. Thus unplugging it from your system may impact Internet connectivity, Windows functionality, and break functionality in Microsoft Office and non-MS products.
6. IE is more than a browser, it is the foundation for Internet functionality in Windows.

If you still want to remove IE despite these warnings, there are third-party programs available like LitePC that remove IE but these are most definitely not recommended for novice users. Instead of uninstalling IE, you should consider the alternatives first, such as making IE more secure, or hiding Internet Explorer.
