emmett: Logic would say Team Captains and Big Bosses should be able to as they can set Team challenges anyway and there is no real difference, but i see no option
emmett: I believe the ability to create site team tournaments were given to 2 people - myself & Tanein.
One thing I would hate to see is that the site team tournaments become so common like regular tournaments, that they lose their "special tournament" feel.
Currently, I think our plan for the site team tournaments is to have around 6 start each month. (that way hopefully enough to keep site team tournaments always going, but not enough to overload anyone).
Even though I have not set down to see which tournaments I would start next, the idea in my head is to have something like:
popular games = Current running games ( http://brainking.com/en/Statistics?p=2 ) is a good guide on how popular a game is... not a perfect indication, but again - just a good guide.
2 tournaments from the top 20 popular games
2-3 tournament from the 21-50 popular games
And at least 1, if not 2 tournament from the bottom 50 (well bottom 54) games
Again, that is just a rough outline on how I will try to spread out the games, so we can keep the popular tournaments going and include the not-as-popular games into the mix (which of course I'm happy to take suggestions.)
Eriisa: .... plus I would try to spread tournaments out - so I would probable pick 1 gammon game, probable Nack since that past tournament is already complete.
But that list is also misleading - since "short" game which do not last very long will of course have less active games - where Ludo (for example) takes awhile longer - so has a higher amount of current games.
coan.net: I hope you keep us posted on team tournaments. There are some other things ( like interviews) that happen so rarely, with few updates, that one gives up wondering when the next one will happen. Some kind of regular feedback would be nice.
Also, you mentioned that you have to have six start each month. Why did only one get posted recently?
coan.net: Your schedule sounds good and I agree that there should not be too many team tournaments. Just don't forget that all backgammon variants can be played without or with the doubling cube :-)
emmett: The one posted earlier was just playing / testing - to make sure it did work - I guess before Fencer made this function, he was manually entering the tournaments into the database.... which was more work, and probable why he did not make that many often.
It's still 90 days before the "next" set, so I will probable wait awhile before I add more tournaments. I believe that me & Tanein will take turns - one creating a set each month. I will AT LEAST create them 30 days in advance, but probable closer to 60 days in advance - to give plenty of time to get teams together. I don't want to make them too soon - or a new game might get added to the site where I might want to create a tournament for.
(And if a time comes that we slow down on creating tournament, feel free to give me a friendly nudge to create more.)
coan.net: Thank you for your quick response. Some of us are really into the Team Tournaments, and we appreciate that this will be accomplished on a regular basis.
One suggestion that I have is that we include one game that has never been offered before in a Team Tournament before. This will introduce a seldom-played game to new players. I currently play many games that I had never tried before Team Tournaments introduced them to me.
nabla: Yea, there are all kinds of things that I need to keep in mind - like double cube - and time limits. Most time limits are 4 days (which is a good number in my opinion), but once we get into making regular tournaments monthly - I can see throwing in some faster 2 day tournament - or no days off - or other settings that can be changed. Goal would be to get a good variety to hopefully please many players.
emmett: Yes - that is my thinking also. Of course I'll try to pick a couple popular, but also pick games that there has not been a team tournament for yet. I have my eyes on Nackgammon, and Dark Chess so far - which Dark Chess has not had a tournament yet. (but don't quote me on that - I may change my mind once I do create them) (AND AT LEAST 1 CHECKERS GAME)
Is Brainking still running at a snails pace or is it just me? Each move takes years or I get booted off during the process. Using Firefox or Advant makes no difference except with Firefox you can read posts but can,t view videos properly and with Advant you can,t read posts but can view videos lmbo!
Jim Dandy: I've heard of AVAST - supposed to be good - I'm up for renewal on Symatec in a bit & looking around...I pay about $40 a year...The only thing it's ever caught from BK (and quarantined) was those two pop-up ads that wouldn't go away from while back Other than that, clean as a whistle
srnity: one more question concerning the invites: robtoo has currently 1480 started games, started presumably before he went pawn. The system should let him finish the started games, but not start new ones, since 1480 is slightly larger than the allowed 20 for pawn . but in that case, shouldn't the invitations be eliminated?
I went and accepted one invite, and the game was created, and his count went up to 1481. (I then deleted the game, which may sound rude, but I'll forgive myself).
Is it possible that the limitation for starting games only checks that no new games are made after exactly 20? Like maybe creating game invitations works by not allowing invitations when "games = 20", instead of "games >= 20", which would apply to those who were above pawn level but then go back to pawn.
I don't think it's possible to get above 20 without having already been above 20 before, I'm testing it now and it's not working.
Does anyone else keeping losing access to the site this morning ? I have lost it 5 times in the last 2 hours (Unable to connect message) the same as when Fencer make a change etc... to the place.
Kunoichi_Power: i think the check for more than 20 games is only done when the invitations are made .. he probably wasnt a pawn when he made them .. now they are made the limit of 20 games wont be checked anymore
Kunoichi_Power: I guess he had created these invitations before he went back to pawn, so he was allowed to do it ... that also explains why he wanted to have so many invitations ... he knew that he will have many started games and will not have to pay for new membership ... and when he changed to pawn they stayed there because brainking doesn*t have some rule to solve problem of this type ...
MadMonkey: your post was 8pm my time friday night and it is now 11am saturday morning and the site is pathetically slow...Im cutting down games because of this, and definately will not sign up for any teams or tournaments any more....takes too long to load a page....I just cant be bothered with it...
I have had a problem with a saved Logik code for a while now, but have only just got round to trying to sort it, which i did.
Problem is Fencer is what caused it lol
I loaded a position i saved ages ago to use again. Sure enough it loaded the five coloured pegs. Now the problem, the Status above the code says not finished and there is no way to submit the game. If i then remove a colour (so only 4 pegs in the code now) it will say Status Finished and there is a submit Goto choice. When you do this it just throws you out of your games, back to main screen and the code in that game is still waiting to be set. Any of my other saved codes work fine, so what was causing this one to go crazy ??
Anyway, as i said i sort of solved it(thats Logik for you lol), but no clue why this happened. I went to game editor, loaded the saved position, which said not Finished (even though all 5 colours were there), and thought of things to try. So i selected 'Random placement of remaining pieces'(even though there were none available as the code had 5 in it), BUT it worked, i now had Status Finished
You needed two people to help out the site by taking over team tournament responsibility for you, and Big Bad Wolf was the best you could come up with?
Lets see, he is already responsible for 2 fellowships, he is a moderator on several public discussion boards, he is also a global moderator, and a member of customer services. (did I leave anything out?)
Anyway, this is supposed to be a game playing site, first and foremost, yet for years his profile has stated not to invite him to any games because he has too many to keep up with his moves, and he is trying to get his game count down blah blah blah....
Now you add even more responsibility for him????
Pretty soon he will have more to do than you do, and he will have to delegate out some of his own responsibilities!
Come on Fencer, he obviously doesnt have the self control to tell you himself that he has way too much on his plate already to make game moves, much less take on more responsibility. Maybe you should consider delegating some responsibility to other worthy people? Or do you think there arent any?
Czuch Czuckers: ??? You are confusing. Aren't you the same person who was upset with me because I was not playing enough Ponds? I know I explained it before to you, but you being what you are - I'll explain it again. I at one time had around 800-900 games going - games I could easily keep up with, but then outside projects (real life) slowed down my game playing, and that is why I no longer try to start many games - and have been doing good, having below 400 now and by the end of the year will be under 200 hopefully (150 would be nice). Plus I always pick time limits which work for me - longer time limits that is, so for players who like to play the faster games I hopefully do not slow them down. That is what is great about this site with many time limit choices - I can choose what works well for me and my some-what slow play - and others who like faster games can easily avoid the longer time limit games.
And you are wrong - I'm the BIG BOSS to 3 fellowships - moderator on the public boards don't really count since my global moderator job covers all that also - and customer service does not really do much anymore... well I've don't nothing with that "title" for years now.
So anyway, I'm sorry that you think spending 10 minutes every 2 months is too much extra work for me. I'm sure if Fencer finds me not able to do that extra 10 minutes of work, the other site team tournament creator can take up the extra 10 minutes of slack, or Fencer would easily be able to find someone else. But don't worry, I assure you that I can handle the extra 10 minutes of work every 2 months.
coan.net: Sorry, it was not meant as a jab at you, it was more a question to Fencer as to why he wouldn't spread his trust around to other worthy people. Maybe you are not too busy to handle it, but there are surly other trustworthy people with less on their plate already than you have.
Now, since you have brought it up, I only talked about you not playing ponds after you got to the top of the Ponds BKR list and then stopped playing them!
Also, I forgot that you got a special grandfathered exemption from the 2 fellowship big boss limit.
Since you say that the moderator jobs dont count, since they are trumped by your being a global moderator, why then are global moderators even listed as board moderators? I have asked this question in the past, since global moderators are already moderators of every board, why then shouldnt they make room for other members to moderate in their stead? I was told that you still enjoyed being a moderator and that it was more control, or something like that, than a global.
So either it does count, and there is a good reason for you to be both a moderator and a global moderator, or being a moderator doesnt count (which you just stated it doesnt) and you should remove yourself from those posts and allow some other members a go at it!
You dont do anything with the title of customer service anymore, EXCEPT list it on your profile! If it is such a meaningless title, then why mention it at all?
I know you have told me in the past that helping Fencer and Brainking by functioning as moderator etc has nothing to do with your ego, so I wonder what listing a meaningless title in your profile has to do with?
Czuch Czuckers: I wouldn't say that pawns pay anyone's rent. BrainKing financial politics is much more complex and definitely is not supported by troublemakers.
