Hi, I am a new member and I'm confused. I only want to play reversi - nothing else, but I must be being thick, because I can't seem to get a single game. How do I start? Help please!
yourturn: You can start New Games (second link, top left) and wait for someone to accept the invitation. Or you can look for open invitations at the Waiting Games area (third link).
Bernice:Can get in OK, but it's v-e-r-y s-l-o-w from England at the moment. There's lots of waiting for white screens to change into something more useful! But the site has been really good for me for ages now, so I guess I was due a blip in performance.
Just discovered something quite neat. The 'Main page' link just under games, has the number of games where it is your move in brackets in red. If you place your mouse cursor over this, it brings up a list of these games and you can select the game from this list! Saves you from having to always scroll down the page.
Pedro Martínez: But did you know That while displaying a game, right clicking on the third character in the game's name (for example, the 'e' in 'chess') will pop up a little screen displaying the best move for the position?
Well done Fencer! Unfortunately, this feature is only valid today.
enough with this game ... we all know how everyone feels about this subject now, and if you dont know you can look it up in the former posts of this board
everything that has been said about tihs subject has been done so far .. if anything changes you will notice soon enough .. no reason to keep repeating and flooding this board
let this board be here for other interesting items about brainking as well :)
(should i really be that strict to remove further posts about this subject of can we try to be adults and move on ?)
the only thing I'm getting at is; if a person uses up their 35 days and then buys a new membership and gets 35 more days. How is it fare to us if that person gets their days off reset at the start of the next year. Is that not like get 70 days off for the same membership every year it happens?
rod03801: Ok, we've heard talk of changes taking place but have seen no action. There is a problem, Fencer and yourselves ( as Globals ) have been aware of the problem for some time now. So when is something going to happen to correct this loophole? I know that a precise date may not be available, but can we at least have a rough date of when the loophole is going to be fixed.
I saw, as well as you and others.. some good ideas put forward in regards to this matter. I think people seeing that and hearing some action was to take place that thought it would be sorted by now..... I think that is what is annoying people. As people are getting sick and tired of this loophole in the vacation system being used, in particular pawns, bishops and knights who have a limited number of games they can play.
As I said, can we have a rough date when this problem will be resolved?
Artful Dodger: I can see how this situation would keep a potential member from joining the ranks of paid members....with only a specific number of games and tourny's available to pawns....being trapped by people like this who find pleasure in ruining the overall moral fabric of Brainking, these folks may decide to join another gamesite that doesnt put money ahead of common sense.
Snoopy: I can see, yet to others it's only come to light in the last 6 months or so... And Bwild is right, it is going to effect a potential paid members opinion of this site, if they get playing anyone abusing the vacation system. It has been seen that certain people have just left the site or discontinued playing here via reading abusers of the vacation system finished games.
alanback: Yep, in my opinion. It just reminds me of certain situations that I studied while taking a statistics 'A' level and understanding how people can get miffed at such situations.
Fencer, can we please have a policy of one set of vacation days per year and that's it? Time controls are part of the game and should be followed. Vacation days allow for an exception to the time controls and it's unreasonable to allow for more than one set of vacation days per year. Please?
(V): I agree with you completely. Only Fencer, not Globals, can take care of it. If it were MY decision, and I had the ability to change it, I would have done it last year!
rabbitoid: Thank you, nice tip! Have been looking for other Easter eggs and finally found one. On the left hand side menu, one click on Games, then two clicks on Profile, three clicks on Statistics, four clicks on Information, then whilst keeping the ALT key down, press F4 four times quickly.......PRESTO the easter egg appears
rod03801: I know only Fencer (and possibly Liquid) can sort it. All we are asking that it is corrected as soon as it is possible.
As I said... it is affecting users of this site experience of this site. And with potential paying members, or with people thinking of renewing their membership... you want them to be happy with this site experience wise. So many sites out there now... and in this global climate, it is a good idea to sort out matters that can cause negative experiences to a minimum, especially in matters that can be sorted by 'the management'.
The potential loss of a few members who are abusing the vacation system is outweighed by the loss of new members or renewals significantly. The odds that is costing Fencer money I'd say (imho) is 100%. You also have to consider the word of mouth factor.
I have paid twice for becoming a Brain Bishop. I think that around these days my account expires. But now without buying any kind of membership at all, i see that i'm a Brain Knight for 6 months!!
Fencer: I read complaints about the site regularly, and yes, this issue can use some attention. Frustruating for paying members, but a small thing in a big picture. What I don't often read is a thanks to you and Liquid for all your hard work and all you do for the site. You must get so many complaints and PMs on a daily basis, and yet you still reply to us. Don't know of any other site owners who do this. So thank you Fencer! I have been here since 2004 and will probably always stay a member. Still my favorite game site-blows most other right out of the water! Just wanted you to read a nice post today! Thanks!
baddessi: Hehe. Thanks. You know, it's a positive thing that people complain about the site. It means that the site is important to them, otherwise they would not bother to post complaints and leave instead. Only dead sites get no complaints.
