Tulip: the problem is that it works for most people it doesnt work for some people
if it would have been a problem with the site then it should work with noone
if you cant connect to the site via the brainking.com or similar urls but you can connect to the site via the ip adres 89.187.130.22 then its a problem with your ISP which hasnt been updated
the site is working for me (except sunday 28 october) when the harddisk failed. at that time everyone had problems connecting to the site so it was clear that it was a problem with the site
i dont need a sarcastic reply, just an answer?...is this site ever going to work properly again? i get fed up trying to get here & to tell you the truth it's getting so that i don't try often now! it's a shame because you had a good site here, where did it go???
Subject: Re: The site is NOT working (again) for me tonight.
Foxy Lady: I am with Aliant (Bell) and I have the same problems that Mighty Orion spoke of. I can only access the site using the ip address and have timed out over 30 games as a result of the boards not loading for me when I am able to log in.

jryden: I did see your prior post and did follow your suggestions: 1) I could not get in through brainking.com 2) I could not get in through the brainking.x,y or z sites 3) I could not get into brainking.info at all 4) I could only get in through the ip address 89.187.130.22 and only able to see the postings and none of the images (as explained in my prior post) My post was more of an informational post in response to a recent post stating that everything was running just fine. I am accessing the site today for the first time in 2 weeks through brainking.com and all appears to be working ok. (finally!)
wetware: ....it does make it hard trying to play the game but there is no way I would be checking out the HTML...Gosh I can remember the days when everybody checked out "view source" to try and find how somebody did something in particular on a web page, but on a game site???.....I couldnt be bothered
Bernice: I had fun with that last week playing Backgammon--it was like a new BrainKing puzzle! Figuring out where in the HTML code would one find the names of the image files that would dictate which die faces would be displayed...in the hope that those filenames would provide a clue. (And they do.)
Subject: Re: The site is NOT working (again) for me tonight.
alanback: I find the site goes down on a regular basis. I'm not a hard core player very often so I just go do something else for a couple of hours and usually it comes back. I noticed this for a while before the move and now again after the move so...whatever.
There are definately still DNS problems. Mighty Orion, I posted a while back how you get around the problems. Please take a look. Also, I tried fencer's suggestion about connecting via brainking.cz and that seemed to work however, I don't know if that will fix your image problems.
Check my post and try out that solution. It is up to us to help each other connect. If more people start getting pissed off, they'll all cancel their subscriptions and Fencer et. al. will go broke. Then we will have no site! Can't have that.
Fencer, you really should re issue your DNS update commands. Clearly something went wrong somewhere and I don't think it is going to fix itself.
Subject: Re: The site is NOT working (again) for me tonight.
Mighty Orion: Well, at least using the URL eliminates DNS as a possible source of the problem ... I just got "cannot connect to 89.187.130.22" for the first time ...

nodnarbo: I was only able to access the site a couple of times in the past week and none the week before. And access was only by entering the ip address. I wonder if internet access speed factors in or if it is something else. I'm on dialup. How about you? btw... your sign might be #1 for you but that position (as it relates to me) is just about how many times I was able to get on and play here in the last 2 weeks. Not good. :>(

Again, I can not get into "brainking.com." I can get to this board via http://89.187.130.22/
I have not been able to get to "brainking.info" at all since almost 2 weeks ago. Game boards and images are also not showing up so I can not see any games and therefore am not able to make moves. I am using up vacation days as I type. :>( A few posts ago I saw that the site is supposedly up and running and is fast! Well, not for me. So, any information (and help) about what the heck is going on would be appreciated. Thanks.
Dolittle: You can't delete the main things that appear in the second column on the main page.
I believe it would be possible to have the option to turn these things off because you can turn off "Tip of the Day" and "Tournament Tips" (which I have done) but we haven't been offered the option to turn off Friends Online or Favourite Boards or Fellowships. (I may be wrong because I am not a computer programmer)
I find that after this last addition that right hand column is taking much longer to load for me and it is also a distraction which I don't like.
If I had a choice I would turn off the lists for Friends Online and Fellowships and only have the Time and Date and my Favourite Boards displayed in the second column.
I can see if my friends are online by green dots on my main page or at the Friends page or by using the Filter and I can access all of my Fellowships in my Profile or on the Fellowships page. I don't feel the need for 4 different ways to access one item on this site.
rod03801: Oh, I agree 100% - like TarantinoFan said - just a way to turn if off. So for those who do like it can just simply not turn it off.
For me, any time I can get the page to not do another database lookup (like to see how many games against friend is waiting), the happier I am since I look at things like that as extra time for the page to load. (along with my original thought of it also being distractive to myself)
But yes, optional of course.
Dolittle - if you delete a person from the friends list, they will no longer be in any friends list.
TarantinoFan: I second that suggestion - just something that keeps grabbing my attention when it does not need to be.
I think it would be nice to have the numbers next to the friends in the friends list (http://brainking.com/en/Friends) - then you can easily see it for friends that are also not on-line.
Is there any way to turn off the little red numbers that have just been added to our friends online list? At a quick glance I go to click on them mistaking them for new messages in my favourite boards.
I thought the filter was fine to use if I wanted to see how many games I had with my friends. I really don't need those new little red numbers and would like to turn them off please.
Christoph Daum: I dont think Fencer likes that anyone "Feeds the Troll" so why dont we just agree that you have your opinion about him and i have mine...ok?
Christoph Daum: So is it appropriate to come in here and offer to answer questions and then when asked a valid question suggest that the person is unintelligent and constantly annoying while filling posts with wink wink smilies .?
That is what brought out my sarcasm Christoph. I didn't appreciate the way the man who took my money was speaking to other paying customers so I spoke up to let him know of my discontent. Now I am being vilified by members like you who seem to think that personal bias and unhelpful comments are quite ok.
Read thru all of the posts and try to forget your bias. If you are going to ask people to stop being rude then you best ask Fencer to stop first.
Well, Fencer is like the cardiothoracic surgeon in full action. His hands are not allowed to tremble the tension is huge .. increasing. The patient is a dude called Frankenstein .. ehh I mean Brainking .. huh? I lost my threat to the thing. Nevermind. Let's autopass to the next operation. Is it an option to have a real effective backgammon-autopass for the impatient and fast players of that game anyway?
Andersp: I don't see him treating people different. At least not based on "computer smartness". Maybe based on how they "ask" their "questions"? The people complaining about his sarcasm are the same that begin every post with blaming Fencer of not doing anything useful about BrainKing. I don't think that
Fencer, do you feel like your time has been wasted when you spend the effort and energy of writing a blog entry only to find that it can't be accessed????
Oh I'm sorry I forgot you were busy adding little incidentals to the site that no-one really knew they needed but it looks like something has been done so it may quiet the masses.
is an appropriate start to ask what's wrong with BrainKing or what to do about it. It is clearly meant to be sarcastic and rude in itself. So what do people expect when they beg for a rude response?
