Doris: This is something that can be solved by messaging the creator, I guess. I doubt beach would know anything about it. It can be done by mistake, you know.
ThunderGr: Yes, I gathered that, but the why??? is what I don't understand. I have never had any cross words with her and she has always seemed very nice. Oh wellll :}
Doris: I took a look at the tournament but the 7 games with standard vacation is too much for my preferences. Obviously, ladyhawke(the creator) must have blocked you from signing up to her tournaments.

Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2015/05-06
Hi, to 'The Best and The Fast Backgammon Players',
This is an opportunity, check your weight against to other best and fast backgammon players if you inside the top 10% any type of Backgammon Games (Minimum BKR: 1700).
Don't be afraid of endless games and tournaments! If you don't like to join to the Backammon Tournaments without end (related with the move time of the tournament or players), our games finish to the next coming tournament.
We choosed publicly announce this in past popular Tournaments here, in the tournaments discussion and some fellowship groups to all the best and fast players who are inside the top 10% of any type Backgammon Games.
Inside the top 10% any type Backgammon player (Back, Nack, Crowded, Race, Hyper, Anti, Cloning Backgammon, Grasshopper, Plakoto, Fevga), is eligible to join to all other games in this Tournaments before the begin time.
To check where you are in the ratings click to the related links:
Others, outside of top 10% players, will be deleted before the tournaments begin without excuse...
Minimum BKR: 1700 Match type: 5 points match with doubling cube Tournament type: one match for each two players Maximum number of players per section: 20 Final match type for two players section: 5 points match with doubling cube Time control: Time: 3 days, Bonus: 3hours, Limit: 10 days, no days off (red signed)
(That means after beginning you have 3 days (72 hours) for your first move. Per your another move, you'll have 3 hours bonus for your other move time. 10 days is limit time for the opponents, after the move of other side.)
Please click to the Tournament addresse and 'feel free to join to any type of Gammon Games'. You are eligible to join, to all Gammon games without restriction, only if you inside of top 10% in any Gammon Games';(for now we have only ten types of Gammon games).
Last year was a speedy tournament with Aleph and Spavacz battling out a fast Round 3 with Aleph just edging out Spav to take the win. With that behind us, we're back once again to a clean tourney slate. Noticing a trend of a 2 player finish, If this year by chance we see a final round with only 2 players, the setting will continue to be a 4 wins match so as to try and have the tournament complete in a timely fashion.
This years St Pat's Tourney has the best settings based on 8 years of tweaks for speed while ensuring a solid challenge to all players.
As usual this is a prize tournament with 1 year Brain Rook awarded to the winner. The section size has been set at 7 people per section with time limits set at 2 days per move with vacation allowed.....anything more and the tourney won't finish before the 2016 St Patty's tourney.
Though last year went really well, please keep in mind we've had quite the issue in years past of people using alternate accts (which messes with seeding) and not fessing up about it. Based on the results of THIS POLL, I'm going to be asking all such accounts (without an established Pente BKR) to let me know if this is a legit 'unrated' account or "other". If you fit into this category and I don't receive a Private Message explaining your acct situation before the tourney start time, I will remove the acct from the tournament. I'm sorry to have to do this, but please read the message boards of prior tourney's and you'll understand the debacle I'm trying to prevent.
It's almost here! Do you feel you have the Pente luck of the Irish? well sign up and see how far you can battle your way through the grids! On St.Patricks Day (March 17, 2015) the tourney begins!
My thanks to all of you who continue to sign up for this tournament every year! Good luck to all of you, I look forward to playing you across the board!
Aganju: as far as I know it counts each game type as a tournament so if I start a tournament and say it has 8 variations of backgammon that would be 8 tournaments yet you would only see the name of tournament on the tournament page.
When I check the open tournaments, it shows a total of 1472. But when I page through, there are only 65!
What happened to the other 1407? I understand that the tournament creator can ban me from his tournaments, but a) I thought I would still see it, just can't join; and b) am I that much hated, so 96% of all tournaments are blocked for me?
Subject: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2015 3-4
Justaminute: It's still unclear who is included in that 10%.
- without provisional and without inactive players? http://brainking.com/en/Ratings?tp=23 - there are 553, so the cutoff is at 55th position which is (right now) 2302.
- with provisional but without inactive players? http://brainking.com/en/Ratings?tp=23&ap=1 - there are 590, so the cutoff is at 59th position which is (right now) 2296.
- without provisional but with inactive players? http://brainking.com/en/Ratings?tp=23&eg=1 - there are 3627, so the cutoff is at 326th position which is (right now) 2212.
If you say 'clearly, the first', what if I am inactive or my rating is provisional (or both)?
Also, nobody can know if you made the cut at any given time between now and the tournament start; someone would need to continuously check. Therefore, I assume he would check about at the tournament start, which is slightly different than at the moment you signed up. So - better let you losing games sit around a bit, or you might not make the cut anymore on that day?

Justaminute: The rating does not suffer from the same problem. Obviously, you need to be eligible at the time of registering for the tournament, not at the time the tournament starts. Nowhere in the world in any kind of tournament it is required to fulfill qualification conditions at the *start of a tournament*. Only at the time of registration.
Subject: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2015 3-4
ThunderGr: doesn't rating position/ rating suffer from the same problem.? Today i qualify but lose a game and tomorrow i don't. It doesn't seem that hard to figure out if i am in the top 10% in a game at any point, look at the number of people with ratings and divide by 10. Seems a lot off work for the organiser though because he has dcide who qualifies manually, but if he wants to do it that's his business.
Subject: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2015 3-4
ThunderGr: I find it also too cumbersome to check each discipline, especially as it is a moving target - I might be in today, and out tomorrow. In addition, and I mentioned that before, the top 10% are mostly people that do not play anymore, so effectively this limits it to 2 or 3 % of active players. Which is to small a pool I think.
And finally, I am simply not good enough to make it into the top 10% of most games, so I stopped checking.

TC: I fail to see a special reason why not to create one tournament for each backgammon variation, setting the minimum rating in each.
Even if you do not want to do so, I still cannot see why not posting minimum ratings in the forum for each backgammon variation, instead of a completely unfriendly and obscure 10%. I understand politicians and media trying to confuse the population by using percentages but I am of the opinion that a tournament announcement should be as forthcoming as reasonably possible.
As I said in my first post, I do not think that you should care about my opinion on the matter, since it appears most of the people here are fine with your way of setting up these tournaments, I just said that I am not going to participate as long as it stays that way.
I am not fond of being kicked out of tournaments because the organizer did not bother giving me clear qualification requirements.
Subject: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2015 3-4
ThunderGr: Yes, it should be easy if the tournament has only one backgammon game. If it is preferable to arrange all backgammon game types one by one, could be arranged.
But this tournament is for all backgammon game types. Tournament creation page has not enough check and rating points to arrange user BKRs for top 10% backgammon types.
We need else to give a change to join the tournament, if he/she is inside the top 10% any type Backgammon game.
You can search all this tournament page using my alias (TC) and check some development history and ideas spoken related about on.
If you hope, wish and can arrange more acceptable tournament, I am ready to see your tournament and join it!
I else ready to break this type tournament organization and transfer to you (or interested any one of brainking.com user) with pleasure!
Subject: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2015 3-4
TC: I already said 2 ideas. Post either rating limit or ranking limit. It is possible and there is no limitation imposed by the site owner. You will have to make the calculations anyway before starting the tournament.
If you use the rating limit, you can include that to your tournament creation, so that you let the site handle the legitimacy of the participants. This convenience has been included to the tournament creation *exactly* to facilitate your kind of tournament and not just for show.
Subject: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2015 3-4
ThunderGr: Hi! Users lhas limitations firstly from site owner of brainking.com, to use the technical needs when organise a tournament. Secondly have time confusing choose problems to fix the needed criters.
Simply you check the games as you wish, and please wait when the tournament begins.
I am open to hear other ways, to realize better tournament organizations better than this one. And open new ideas of course!

TC: I do not know if I am in the "Top 10% faster backgammoners" but until you post minimum rating or minimum position in the rankings, I am not going to participate in your tournaments.
Not that I think you should care but I thought you *might* want to know.

(NOTE: the original tournament slated to start on Jan 17 was flawed and started with only 1 game for 2 players. I had Fencer delete this tournament since it was not fixable. Let's try this one more time!)
SO, if you were signed up before you'll need to RE-sign up in this new tournament! I apologize for the hassle but something went haywire with the tournament settings and I know none of us wanted to play anything short of a complete "SET" so this is now fixed.
For the first 7 instances of this King Of The Hill tournament, I've only hosted it within the SPP fellowship. The last KOTH however I decided to open it up to the rest of BK so we could try and get all 20 slots filled up. This worked fairly well so I think I'll follow the same plan for this 9th version of the tournament.
The 9th KOTH will start on January 21 and will have a 2 day 1 hour move time limit with vacation allowed.
Please also keep in mind that up to 19 other players can sign up, this may equal a total of up to 38 games you may be playing on January 21! (MINIMUM of 14 Players required to start!) If you do not have enough open game slots for your membership level it is very likely you'll be auto-removed from the tournament at the start time.
Now is your chance to be the 2015 "King Of The Hill"! Remember though, only 20 people will be allowed to play in one BIG section. If you have any additional questions, feel free to PM me Brf message link. though you may want to sign up now just to make sure that you get one of the twenty available slots. Once all slots are gone the tourney is FULL, and you'll have to wait for next years KOTH to get in on the action!
Aside from enjoying the view from the top of the hill, whomever wins this tournament will have their name permanently added to the other fine champions listed below and on the main page in the SPP fellowship. Good luck to all players, it's going to be another fun tourney!
every month (mid & end of month) 1 gammon tournament will start, one with single elimination and the other with 2 games for each player - both 4 wins match...next 2 starting soon:

P.S. We only have 9 slots left! sign up quick, or you'll have to wait until next year!
With Fencer's generosity of giving out free memberships, I have decided to try something different.... So, I bought another year's membership and this time the free memberships are going to go towards a team tournament.
With Fencer's help we have created the first prize Team Tournament
All are welcome to join (as long as you belong to a fellowship). The 6 lucky participants will battle for a 3 month Brain Rook membership. I chose gammon games as it should even the odds a little and balance the playing fields.
(hide) If you want to find an opponent with similar playing skills to your own look in the Ratings page of the type of game you want and find a player with a similar BKR. (pauloaguia) (show all tips)
