BIG BAD WOLF: OK, but a fellowship can have even 20 members of a team (listed on the fs page) but only 8 can play. That's what I'm getting at.

Isn't that right?

coan.net
Subject: Re: Team tourneys
ArtfulDodger: That is correct. But a different 8 player can play in the next backgammon team tournament if you want.

And once a team tournament starts, a player can leave the team and go join a different team for the next team tournament - even if the last one for the other team is still going on.

If an event has 13 players sign up at a maximum of 8 per section, it is broken down into 5-4-4 or 7-6?

Pioneer54: 7-6. The system always tries to create the sections with most possible players.

Subject: Backgammon 1 Hour Tournament
I played in a tournament yesterday which the time control was 1 hour, no days off.

It was very quick and good fun. The unfortunate bit was that out of the group of 7 of us 3 didn't turn up to play. Therefore the games were timed out.

But the 3 of us left finished 6 games (two games against each opponent) in about 2 hours.

I have set up my own tournament to start at 1200 this Monday 29th (UK Bank Holiday Monday).

Any of you interested please sign up - http://brainking.com/en/Tournaments?trg=10955&tri=56486&trnst=0

Can you replace a lower BKR memeber with a higher BKR now, before the tourney begins?

I heard you can remove team from tourney, replace the player and sign up again.

You can, i removed someone from a team earlier and replaced them with another, you just unsign the team first! (onyl because that player had'nt been online since march though)

Andersp: I asked so that I would and could understand the rules.

I will admit that when several others with higher BKR's joined the team later after the first 8 did it made me wonder and think.

I suspect I am not the first person to have those thoughts. If I am I am surprised.

I suspect it has even been done before. I would hope not. I will not either. I have never had a tournament team before and have now learned to be patient and wait until everyone that wants to join, joins.

I made the mistake of running too fast out of excitement but have learned that if you wait, then you watch AD sweat when he as team captain has to decide which 8 plays and who doesn't.

Would you think it would be best in a F/S to just state the first 8 or is it not fair to say, sign up and then we will pick the best 8? Which do you guys do?

27. August 2005, 14:47:27
furbster
Some felowships sign their best player, an example is Bry's backgammon fellowship as they then have a strong team, whereas others such as the gammon cube, for example, ask for the first 8 to ask to be in the team. I think both of these options are plausable!

Subject: Re:
ClayNashvilleTn: What I have done is ask all players in the team either in a message or in the FS who really wants to play and are there some who dont mind stepping down to higher rated players. It is only fair to ask them all. Most folks want to play for the fun of it not the high ratings and they should be allowed to stay in if they want to be in it. I have had my feelings hurt by being 'dumped' off a tourney for a higher rated player only because no one approached me about it first. If someone has said hey do you mind stepping aside to let so an so who is 400 pts higher than you then I would have gladly said sure if it gives the team a better chance.

27. August 2005, 14:51:06

I think it's important to decide fast, for the other players know where they are and are able to find another team, what is unlikely if these are last-minute changes.

furbster & Rose I thought at 62 years of age I was pretty wise. "NOT" I have learned sooooo much being a member of BK in dealing with people when you have multiple goals.

Treating people as you would want to be treated is something I have had pounded into me since I was a teenager.hmmmmmmmmmm It still holds water and I am sticking with it, even if we only finish second in this tourney.

Are there any fellowships that needs another backgammon player in the tournament. I belong to 2 and one only took the top players (which I have a high rating - just not the top 8) and the other one has so many you don't get a chance to play in it. I would love to play in this tournament, so if anyone needs somebody that is definatley playing in it, let me know and I will join your fellowship. My rating is 2073. Thanks

For those who are part of the FRCEC club, and wish to participate in a quad or a trio, let me know. My BK id is 8352 and I will set up one for you--and I will send invitations to the players.

Thanks, and good gaming to you!

The Sunshine Club needs 2 players yet for the Backgammon team tournament. If youre already on a team and wont be playing, we'd be happy to have you. I just like to play, I dont need to play to win, because this game has a strong luck factor, and even the lowest ranked team can win!!

so, even if you have a low BKR and your 'team' isnt using you, and you want to play, I have room for you!! lets have fun!

28. August 2005, 18:47:01

I have a question: there is this tourney where the move-limit is one hour and is in the "waiting" status. can anybody help me in telling me when it is going to start? (coz I'd hate to go away from the pc for over an hour and thus miss it!) - thanks for the help, it is the tourney created by qusar in backgammon variations!
