Subject: Team Tournaments
I was looking through the team tournaments, and I seen 3 tournaments which will not have enough teams to start.

Those tournaments of less-popular games are:

  • Gothic Chess
  • Cylinder Chess
  • Parachute Checkers

If you are able to play in team tournaments, and any of those games look interesting to you - Check with your fellowships to teams to join, or join a new fellowship looking for team members.

Here are a few fellowships that I know of that are looking for players for these tournaments:

  • HOME Fellowship - I know looking for both Cylinder Chess & Gothic Chess

  • Monkey Madhouse - Looking for players for all 3 games

  • The Zoo - Also looking for players for all 3 games.

If other fellowship are looking, please let us know. If you are a player, feel free to join. Hopefully we can get enough teams to start these tournaments!

It is the auto vacation that is for "emergencies" Sky... If it is not an emergency then one can use the vacations normally.

I doubt "most" people are "tired of listening to steve whine"... You always do that. You feel a certain way, and try to make it sound like a majority feels the same, even though you have no idea, LJ... There is NO reason for Stevie to be banned! (not this time anyways.. LOL!) :-P

No, because you would obviously not be onsite :o)

Well, if you are using auto-vacation and you end up not having to go, none of your games should "time out", and therefore no vacation days should be used.

It is just not a right attitude. Once there is a feature which people do find useful from time to time, it should not be abolished just because some others abuse it. Such an attitude would lead, then, to a "tyranny of the abusers", because BK would be further developed with respect to preventing these from acting abusively and not with respect to helping us all to have a good gameplay.

Do you see my point ?

I dont think it is that tough to see... If you are away from the site, automatic vacation days to prevent time out is fine. there should be no limit to it, except for the amount of vacation time you have left. If you have logged into the site within 24 hours (or some specific amount of time) of a game being timed out, the Automatic vacation should not be turned on for you.

I think we all agree, it should not be used to add time to a game when a person is available to make a move.

    Jason
I agree that auto vacation should not be allowed to be used on games if a person has signed into the account at any period , and even if it does kick in a maximum limit of 2 or 3 days should be allowed .

    23. October 2004, 02:27:09
    Stevie
    Thanks Loup :o)
The diference is BBW to set it manually means they have to go out of their way to do it.
Whereas its easy to sit back and let an auto thing kick in

    23. October 2004, 02:21:56
    coan.net
but the thing is, even without auto vacation, that same person can hold up the tournament for over a month.

hear hear. Finishing the tournament is the fun part. If you time out for whatever reason then enter the next one. It's not the end of the world.

Most of the time Stevie and I don't see things the same way. But on this auto vacation crap. I do have to say Stevie is saying most everything I think is right on it.
So on the 1 or 2 day tourney, if a person has not takin 1 vacation day all year they could hold a tourney to make it last for 1 turn over a month. Yes as it is now that the way the rules have it but is it really being a true sport about the game? ok puff back to my corner I pop.
    :o{P

especially annoying when its against a pawn :( It would only need 1 player to do this and hold up a tournament we are in for ex. Or 20 players to do it and we have no games to play

    Stevie
    hence..the words abused upchuck

but i dont think its worth mentioning anymore cos obviously the managements minds are made up

One point not yet mentioned (I think) is that these people are not away with an emergency, they are here...

I like auto vacations too, for emergency use. But maybe it could be set to only work if a player is not on the site? If they are here and purposly not playing games that are due to time out, the auto vacation should not be kicked in. Personally, I dont think any vacation days should be valid if the person is on site. If you can accept a 5 day limit game, and you are able to get on site, you should have to play your games at that limit, period.

    Stevie
and of course you are right ;o)

I've never said I have a great memory! Feature requests is just that. People suggest things, Fencer & Liquid add what they like. I don't remember many objections if this was mentioned at features? I could be wrong though so don't jump on me for that one! I think most people would be glad of this if they ever needed to fall back on auto-vation. As was said earlier, for the majority its a great addition. Of course there are always a few who will abuse it, as with anything. But overall, it will benefit most people.

    22. October 2004, 20:18:10
    Stevie
    I doubt it

    22. October 2004, 20:17:42
    BuilderQ
On the other hand, won't the auto-vacation feature make players more willing to play 1-day-per-move games, hence resulting in faster game play?

    22. October 2004, 20:15:50
    Stevie
nope, i remember the suggestions made on feature board

    22. October 2004, 20:15:05
    harley
Yes, a chosen few wanted it. Fencer and Liquid. And last time I looked, they don't have to ask anyone before adding every small detail to their site!

    Stevie
Subject: Nobody is dictating to you. The rules have been set, you have to learn to live with them.
    no one dictating???
So were we all asked if we wanted this addition? or did just a chosen couple want it, so hey presto

    22. October 2004, 20:12:26
    harley
Because, Stevie, even people who want to abuse the auto-vaction can only do it 30 times! And then they lose all their vacation days, and they can't avoid timing out, and if they want to go away they won't be able to set any more days.
