but you know anyway in some cases, so why make us track it in the notes? Once again I think marking the pieces is best if possible (same as notes but in a better place), though may not be easy to implement

Subject: Re: Espionage
If 4 attacks and loses then I could understand revealing the 5, saves time tracking it.

However if a 3 attacks and loses, the piece may be 4 or 5 so how would you know.

Ideally we would be able to "mark" the enemy pieces with what we know or suspect.

It would be nice to have the date and time at which a game was offered on the waiting page.

Subject: Jump to Game#, Player#
Modified by Kevin (19. October 2004, 08:08:26)
How about forms somewhere on each page (at the bottom, at the top, wherever) where we can type in a number to jump to a certain game, or a certain Player's profile (by player number, of course).

It would be a quick way to go to a game if you know the number (like when someone posts the number on a DB), or to go to someone's profile for which you know the number.

Or like what they have on GoldToken works good - a Jump to Game# is listed at the bottom of each page (right above the Copyright) and the Jump to player (they use player name, but either would work) is at the bottom of each profile.

Subject: Espionage
If a 4 attacks a 5 and loses, shouldn't the 5 become revealed? Also if a 3 attacks a 4 and loses, the 4 should be revealed, shouldn't it? If it can be "only one thing", like when 4 takes 4 or 3 takes 3, should not the winning piece of your enemy be made clear?

What do you all and fencer think of having Dominoes or Abalone Game... 2 of the best played... And what about Battle Ship outline... Trying to Outline the boats instead hitting them with a 5 hit accident limit?

What about translating BK to other languages?

18. October 2004, 19:53:08
Fencer
vitalik: The problem is not with BK programming itself but with other additional tasks. For example, writing an user guide for beginners, adding more entries to FAQ and Help pages to cover all important BK features, making a detailed description of paid membership advantages etc.

sort of.

Fencer, there are a lot of programmers playing on BK. I am sure some of them will be happy to do some coding for BK. Have you ever considered that opportunity or do you prefer to keep it to yourself? Just curious.

LOL, I hear the people at CDW love that sort of thing!

I wish I have more time to write a description of how the system works :-)

Subject: Thanks Fencer
That makes more sense. I did not get a time out message, and it did not go to negative time, so I think the time value on it changed. Good thing tomorrow is a day off for me, cause its taking me too long to work my way through the games. They were all 4 or 5 days left when I went on vacation (I thought), but they are all 8 or 9 hours now........

18. October 2004, 18:48:43
Fencer
Eriisa: It's not about the system but particular games with wrong initial time left value. Once a new move is performed, it should be okay. A game cannot just disappear, it is either displayed with normal time left, or with negative time left (in red) or timeouted (followed by a message in the message box).
On the other hand, I fixed one bug today so it's possible that several games were still wrong in the morning.

18. October 2004, 18:32:19
Eriisa
ok, I've returned from basking on the beach... I see the stuff about the new time system, but I'm a little confused. Is the system finished being sychronized? When a vacation time or day off kicks in, does the clock stop or does it add 24 hours to the time system. I had one game this morning that showed 7 minutes left. I went to settings to make sure the vacation day was set for today, and when I returned to the main page, the game was not showing there anymore. Unfortunately, I don't remember what the game was or who with so I couldn't figure where it went......

actually, it is almost pointless now to set vacation days as you may waste them by playing on those days anyway but because they were set, they are gone when the date is reached.
Under the new systems, may as well never setvacation days and just have the auto thing working for you all the time, in which case it would be handy to see a little number showing how many vacation days someone has left.
I, like Steve, would be a little disappointed thinking I was about to win and then bam, another 24 hours.

Subject: A red marker
On a profile would be good so at a glance you could see if the player has auto vacation set.

You could be watching a game time out and feel happy etc for a tourny win maybe, then bam another 24hrs added. so with this marker highlighted on the profile of the player..you wont get too excited LOL

The idea for any sort of solitaire game would be to keep players within the structure of BrainKing and not to send them to Yahoo.com or Pogo.com where they may end up finding other turn based games or multi-player games that they prefer, then not bother to come back.
Personally i think a Feature that should be in development are multi-player games (Froglet is a great example of one).
The idea is to improve BrainKing, not help other sites :o)

If all a person does is basic web browsing & e-mail, WebTV can be a good option. You don't have to worry about slow computer, computer crashs, and the biggest - you do not have to worry about Viruses!

But I would suggest any more talk on this should be moved to the Computer Board

18. October 2004, 04:15:34
NOT a floosie
It runs around $25 a month. But the equipment is much more affordable than a computer. The entire unit can be purchased for around $100.

They various payment situations and there are different types of webtv machines. The most classic version like I have costs me 19.95 a month. The only thing I really miss having is the ability to use java related stuff. I dont use the internet for much more than I mentioned before. If I want to use yahoo games or something with java, the library is a few blocks away and I use their cable modem computers.

I know webtv is limited in its capabilities but it for those who dont want to sit in front of a computer all the time or those who are computer illiterate and want to do e-mail and the basic internet stuff. I like sitting on my couch with a small table for my wireless keyboard and using the internet on my 19 inch TV. I use mine for e-mail, playing games, chat rooms and discussion boards and keeping up on my favorite sports teams. If I need something with more capability, I go to the library and do more.

i have a better idea: buy a deck of cards. :) why do you need a computer(or webTV) to play solitaire?

18. October 2004, 03:52:06

excuse my ignorance, but why do people choose webTv? This really is ignorance, I have never seen it.

Yeah but webtv people cant play games on yahoo. Besides i am sure he has to have special permission to use that link.

The quickest way to add solitaire to BrainKing: add a link to games.yahoo.com :)

Iknow Chucky. You could still incorporate solitaire games. Non rated and just for fun. Some people dont care about ratings and just enjoy playing too. lol.

As long as it stays compatable with WebTV :)

I second that concept Monkey Man. I would like to see some card games here. maybe not necessarily against people though that could happen to. However playing the computer in hearts, cribbage or playing solitare while waiting for moves. As it has been said before this is a GAME site. Discussion boards are great but there are some who just come here to play games and not use the boards. Why not have some individual games they can play while waiting for games to be moved on?

18. October 2004, 01:34:26
MadMonkey
I know this has been mentioned before, but how about at least one single player game for those that have games running but no one moving while they are here, then players may stay logged on and play for a while, rather than trying to start more new games without people moving.
Also mentioned before was working on a multi-player game.
Neither of these seem to ever appear on the Features in development (sorted by priority) list, but would both help BrainKing get even better.

Subject: Tournament creation
Fencer, when creating a tournament, how about an option to include all games and/or all from a certain category (per the way the discussion boards are cateogized, that way we wouldn't have to manually check every box.

Subject: Team tournaments
How about being able to click somewhere (Maybe the fellowship name, maybe the picture, maybe somewhere else) to display a page with all of that team's tables against the other teams - just like clicking on the "-", "1" or "0", except it would display them all for that team.

And maybe also from the "Player results" page being able to view all of that players' games (in progress and completed) from that tournament.

16. October 2004, 00:53:46
coan.net
I hate it when users leave one of my fellowships because I don't know why. I mean if it's just because they don't like it, or something like that - that is fine. But lets say if it's because we don't do this, or we need to do that - things like that helps.

For example, someone not too long ago left one of my fellowships but was nice enough to tell me why. It was something I could fix right away, and was able to re-invite him back.

So I think to have a box for a "reason you are leaving this fellowship" when a person leaves is a good idea, of course they can always leave it empty if they want.
