For Big Bad WOlf or anyone else interested, this is Mastermind if you've never played it.
In a 2-player version, you would pick your own color pattern for your opponent to try to unlock.

The following way to have a game not count towards ratings does not work properly, Both players did not perform at least two moves. It can happen when one player loses the game by a timeout at the very beginning. The games are still be counted for ratings.

Subject: re: FAQ
Here are the game numbers to back it up. In Line4 after 4 games I got a rating Game in Question: 1800 if the system was working properly it should've taken 5. Yet in Linetris I've completed 4 games and am still unrated, Game ID: 1802 so this one worked properly.

20. June 2003, 05:18:13
Kevin
You only need 4 games to have a provisional rating. You are still unrated in Linetris because your lost game was timed-out with less than 4 moves total, so it was not counted towards your rating. Similar in your line4 match.

If you have one of the short games that don't count for ratings, don't you need 5?

20. June 2003, 17:42:42
Kevin
I never heard about tournament games counting regardless, but i guess it could be.

Yes, a "rated" game will not be rated if it is deleted, timed-out, etc after less than 2 moves from each player (4 moves total). This also allows players to delete a game they didn't want to play without being penalized. (For example, if someone accepted their Open Invitation whom they didn't want to play).

Subject: Maximum number of players per section
I have just noticed that in the Monkeys Swinging Madhouse Screen Chess tournament , that 6 people signed up for the tournament, and it created 2 sections of 3 people each.

The problem is that the "maximum number of players per section" is set to 8. I would have thought 1 section with 6 people would have been created for this tournament, or am I just missing something???

Subject: Re: Maximum number of players per section
No, that's a bug. It was supposed to create one section for all six players. I will fix it ASAP.

20. June 2003, 21:54:19
harley
The same has happened at HOME fellowship (3 in one section, 4 in the other) and I hadn't even noticed!
What will happen when the bug is fixed Fencer? Will the two sections merge together and we will get new games?

20. June 2003, 21:58:24
coan.net
My guess is he will just fix it for new tournament from this point on (and not change any of the current tournaments)

20. June 2003, 21:58:29
Fencer
I'm not sure if I should cancel all already started games. But maybe I am wrong, what do you think? Should the affected tournaments be recreated after the bug is fixed?

20. June 2003, 22:01:08
coan.net
I don't think it's a big deal with how the tournaments are now - the winners will just have to play an extra "section" - which to me is not a big deal.

20. June 2003, 22:01:14
harley
Well our tournament only started yesterday so we'd be ok with that, but some started a while ago and might not be happy having to start again.

20. June 2003, 22:05:44
harley
Oops, I deleted my message by mistake! I was replying to BBW's message, saying I dont think anyone would be bothered about playing an extra section, and maybe the tournaments running now should be left as they are, and the new ones can start with the bug removed.

Subject: Short Games
Ok, I was wondering about the rated games under 4 moves total that don't count towards ratings. I have two of these Game ID: 1800, 1802 In one I timed out before moving, in the other it was a 2 game match, he moved I timed out, then I timed out the other so that's only 3 moves. So both shouldn't have counted for ratings. However, one (1800) did because I recieved a 4iar rating after 4 games but it should've been 5 if the game was properly not counted. Yet in Linetris (1802) I completed 4 games and was still unrated, meaning the system worked there and did not count 1802 for ratings.

20. June 2003, 23:53:36
Kevin
I'm not sure then, if it did that. It shouldn't have counted the match for your rating. It might have something to do with that it was a 2-game match. You might be best to ask Fencer about it. :-)

There are a couple ways, you can use NotePad to merge PGN files.
Just load the first file in, then open the others, cut and paste back to the original.

I use WinBoard and FileMate, both will allow you to merge PGN files. I like FileMate the best, seems to be the most versitle.

My web site has some very good examples on how to use PGN files.
There are examples of both single and several files merged together.

Since we have the PGN option, I will be adding a BrainKing link in my site. It will hold tournaments and games I and others with the 65thsquare club play
Nodakindy has a great site also, check it out.

Would it be possible to add an Ignore/mute-function. Some messageboards are too annoying so if we could click "Ignore" or "Mute" on the names we dont want to read messages from would be VERY NICE.

If you don't want to read messages from some boards, simply don't click on their names. Or do I miss something? What should be the real effect of the Ignore function?

I think he means like we could block certain players' posts from the dbs, so they will not show up.

I have read a few requests that say they want the enemies list to include blocking db posts.

Hi Fencer, the pgn-Format in regular chessgames works correctly and I can play these games for instance with the windboard freeware utility.Naturally we can not play with this utility games on a 10x8 board (only standard chess). Perhaps there is a computerfreak who can produces a pgn-player for 10x8 boards? Best would be with the Gothic and Janus pieces.

In the user's profile, you can see their Wins, Draws, Losses, and BKR.

Is it possible to add the rating positions along with them? I find them to be very interesting.

For example my 2055 rating in Backgammon Race is 1st, but the same 2055 rating in Five in Line would end me up in 39th place!
