joshi tm: thats nice to know, but it would still be nice to know how the score got to be the way it is without having to click each individual game and figuring it out
Right now in a multi-point or game match, after the first game, the results of prior games are shown before a move, (I am talking about backgammon) with the headings- game #, white, black, result. Could an additional statistic be added at the end entitled points earned? right now you have to go back to each individual game and calculate it yourself. I ask because I am trying to get a grasp on scoring in cloning backgammon
On Fellowship pages, in the team box for each game type, I suggest that we add a line that says "number of running team matches". That way, a captain or Big Boss can easily see if a certain team is actually actively playing in a match, or if it has been neglected . Then the number should be a link, so that when you click on the number of running team matches a list of the running matches are listed. That way, a captain can easily see if they are already playing a match with a certain team, so they don't challenge them twice. Or they can quickly see which fellowship team they are not playing, so they quickly know who to challenge.
Instead of free membership for winners it might be good if Fencer supplied some "stuff" as prizes for a few tourneys. A t-shirt or mug or whatever. Cheap advertising and a way to get more new members instead of just extending memberships of those already here.
irenebooklover: Look at the menu on your left. The second option is "New Game". Click it and go through the options to create a new game. Then wait for someone to accept your invitation.
Alternatively, choose the option "Waiting Games" where you can pick on invitations someone else has already made and are waiting for an opponent
It seems like a lot of people don't utilize the tournament discussion board but I like it. At any rate, I think that the tourney creator should be able to write to the board even if they are not playing that particular one....
On one of the portuguese fellowship boards, someone suggested about statistics of finished games per opponent.
Right now we can see similar numbers when we go to the FinishedGames page on our opponent's profile and choose the option "show games against me only". Or, when on a game, it shows the wins/losses/draws of the games of that type between the two of us, below the game board.
But what we're talking about here is the ability to see (maybe on our profile, under finished games?) an option to display the results of all our games but sorted by player. That way we could see who we play against the most; who beat the crap out of us; who is a good opponent to chalenge for revenge; etc, etc, etc.
Maybe the red number by the Ponds link could show only how many ponds we can sign up for (excluding the ones we already entered, that is). Probably the same reasoning could be made for the number by the tournaments link, but I'd be happy enough with ponds for now :)
AbigailII: Mmmm Interesting. Same question from me for the game of Horde Chess.
Coan (BBW):
Bankroll (especially in TDP) sounds extremely exiting and I'ld like to see that one in Brain King action soon. Altough the game increases the luck factor (rolling a straight at once saves two turns) it also increases the strategy factor and the planning factor A LOT. Interesting....
The game is a simple win for black, even if you play badly.
I wonder if the game could be spiced up a little, giving white a slightly larger chance to score a win every now and then. My suggestion: white wins if it gives a check, takes an undefended piece, or if the game reaches move 40.
[for the next section - I'm debating if I like the set value for these, or if it should be "sum of dice" for each of them - any opinions? The more I think about it, the more I like the "sum of all dice" for each of them]
Two Pair (2+2 - example 2-2-1-1-6-5) (20 points)
Full house (3+2 - example 6-6-6-2-2-4) (25 points)
Three Pair (2+2+2 - example 4-4-5-5-2-2) (35 points)
Tri-Tri (3+3 - example 4-4-4-2-2-2) (35 points)
Four+2 (4+2 - example 2-2-2-2-1-1) (40 points)
ALL 6! (75 points)
Chance (sum of all dice)
So for single version 19 moves per game. For triple version, 57 moves per game
Subject: Bankroll Dice Poker & Triple Bankroll Dice Poker
I've mentioned this idea before, and with Dice Poker & Triple Dice Poker very popular games (5th & 3rd popular per current games going), I think a bankroll version of the game would be an interesting variant to the game.
Dice Poker: In a normal game, you can get up to 39 rolls (13 rounds/moves with up to 3 rolls per turn).
What I would like to see is for each of the 13 moves, you get 1 roll. Then after that, you have a "bankroll" of 26 rolls to make in the game when every you want. (So if you want to take 20 rolls on the very first turn, and then leave 6 extra rolls to use in the next 12 moves - then so be it.) Once you run out of rolls, you will be forced to take whatever the first default roll is for each turn.
So if you take only 2 rolls per turn, it will be like a normal game. But sometimes you roll the large strait on the first roll - so now you have a couple extra rolls in which you can go for that 5-of-kind which is so close.
So for programming - each first turn gets a default roll - then a simple countdown of 26 rolls that can be used whenever they want.
Triple Bankroll Dice Poker: Same as above, but 78 bankroll rolls to use.
AbigailII: I never said I don't want to make word games. On the contrary, it would be nice to have 20 versions of some nice word game. The only problem is to get good word lists for all supported languages.
volant: You can't copyright games, although you can copyright the description of the rules. And the names of games might be trademarked.
However, I think Fencer has stated he doesn't want to make word games because they will be language dependent. And Brainking is an international site. Of course, he is entitled to change his mind.
irenebooklover: Jamble IYT's version of Scrabble. Scrabble isn't here yet. It would be a great game to have here. But I think Scrabble is copyrighted so may not be possible.
At present only the Team Captain gets a message about a challenge match. I have already asked that the Big Boss should get a message so they can keep the Fellowship in touch with how the Teams are doing.
Would it not be nice if all members of the Team got a message to: a) let them know they had been selected, and are playing in a challenge match b) tell all Team members (even if they played in that match or not) the result of the match
At present when playing a Team match there is nothing accept the match/tournament name to differentiate between that and any other game, and i am sure like many of us most of us just fly through games when in a rush and do not even know if it is a normal, tourny or match game.
I think Team games should look different to a small degree. Maybe a different color for the match/tournament name, or a heading at the top of the game. Just something better to tell you it is a match/tournament game (not that it should make you play any different lol). It would be great if it displayed you & your opponents TEAM BKR and Ratings, as it is more relevant to the game
I propose that Fencer charges differently for memberships. I suggest more of a breakdown, where vacation days cost extra, weekend days cost extra, and a paired-down rook membership without those extra days costs less.
Could we get it so when you set a game filter on the main page it stays that way until we change it? I.E. if I set for everyone except SEE MYPROFILE:) because I have 300 games with him I would like to be able to use next game options without his games showing up so when I am done everyone else I can change it to play all games then start playing the rest.
AbigailII: Sorry to get off topic a little, but for what it's worth, there are games on this site where you have to remember the previous board position to play well. (For example dark chess, espionage).
would be nice, so that with a click you can delete all your messages from whatever discussion board you are looking at.. It would be good idea to have a way of confirming first though so that a single accidental click doesnt make it happen hehe
tonyh: Ok - Bridge is not actually a "turn-based: game, There are plenty of good sites on the internet where you can play bridge real time (for example, www.okbridge,com). I play bridge two or three times a week at real bridge clubs with real people, and when somebody takes three minutes to make a bid, it is S L O W !!! Imagine somebody taking two weeks! It just would not work. But go ahead and push for turn-based bridge at three months per hand if you like. I think I will stick to 28 boards per night. I'll stick to backgammon and chess and variants which this site is brilliant at.
pgt: Rather than saying 'Rubbish', etc. why don't you explain why you don't think it is bridge at all. Playing bridge well is far more than just remembering the cards that have been played.
joshi tm: Its a shame. Its is the ONE thing that other sites have an advantage over brainking. Well 2 others that i play Goldtoken & BugCafe have 4 player games. I know its been mentioned before, by myself and others. The only argument i remember was that someone said we should have different BKR ratings for 3, 4 or more player games. What about 3 or 4 player Chess ? We had that at an old club i went to, but as you say Assim, Ataxx, Ludo and poker are the obvious ones
ngsinan: Even if you remember cards for only one or two tricks, such a trick may be one or two weeks ago - while you may be playing 20 or 40 games in parallel.
Of course, it's not up to me to decide whether or not bridge should appear. But if it does, I doubt I'll play it. And that counts for most card games - they suffer from a similar problem: you need to be able to remember what cards have appeared. Some possible exceptions:
Cribbage. Normally if you reach 30 the played cards are set aside, but here they could be shown somewhere on the board. (Cribbage is also a two player game...)
UNO, with an "infinite" deck. (So, if dealing any dealt card has a change of 1/108, 2/108 or 4/108 of appearing) </ul>
joshi tm: you all are right at some point. Playing bridge online on a turn based site could be a little bit hard but not impossible. You know it is almost done when you finish bids. You know your partner hand and you can guess the opponents' ones. Remembering cards is important for atmost one or two tricks. Anyhow, thanks for your interest. good to hear bridge lovers :)
ngsinan: AbigailII is right here. Bridge is a super game, but you have to take lots of notes to play, which is not good for gaming experience.
4 Player games are great to implement here at BK, Something like Ataxx 4, Halma 4, Dice Poker 4(or even more!) or Ludo 4 where board position matters only, is good to implement at a Turn Based Game Website.
ngsinan: Well, I like to play bridge, but I don't think I like to play bridge on a turn based site. Games on a turn based site should be those games where the current state gives you all the information necessary to play well. For chess for instance, only the current position matters, not how the position was reached (ok, except for the fact whether you are still allowed to castle, and for the 50 moves rule - but the latter hasn't been implemented). For bridge, it's different. By the time you get to play your 10th card, you might be six weeks away from playing the first card - well, then I won't remember whether you played the Jack or not. Besides, it would suck to be the dummy.
Furthermore, there are no 4 player games implemented here anyway.
i liked to play backgommon, reversi or go in this site. However, have you ever thought to add bridge in the game list? I would be grateful if i had a change to play bridge with you, nice people :)
