I'm not harrassing anyone, as a site member I'm the one under attack.

couple of questions BBW....
You said that after each pass the person got another move, or turn... would they then be required to finish their turn, or would their time limit start again, allowing 2 more days or whatever to make the next move? Also, someone would not have to sit there and pass for a month would they? If they were interested in a faster game they could pass their turn right away, without waiting a month or whatever limit the game was. Maybe I am misundersatnding that point...

Auto-pass for pawns, is that the idea?

like 'allow autopass upto xx moves' - everything actually
no problem to imagine if not out for 'killing something' as our
slightly excited comrade, some could call it harrassing if repeated ... ~*~

Sure, the possibilities exist. In the waiting games area do we need half a dozen different species for any passable game? Tell me why it's worth the fuss. I prefer simplicity, if I have to decide all sorts of this and that everytime I play a game, I'll end up?playing atomic chess or something.

IMCK - It could be either way - make the first turn (and any auto-pass turns) part of the current time limit, or after the first, put back to the main time limit. (But the point would be that the player who CAN play will be able to play the game, instead of sitting on the opponenets board waiting for them to pass.) Personally, I would see after each "Submit", it would be an end to the turn so full time would be put back on, but the game would immediatly be put back on the persons game page to be able to play their next turn.

And in some games, I have seen a player not be able to make ANY moved for months at a time in that game. (Yes, just like now the player will be able to play in other games.), but its not really a matter of playing in a faster game - but being able to play in ANY game. (I don't consider "passing" as playing - it basicly saying "Hey, let the other player play again." - and not actually playing themselfs.) If a player still want to take full time to play their move, then they can still do that. It is NOT the point of auto-pass to make player play faster - but letting player actually PLAY in a game.

Good one with the Chaturanga, there are also shogi variants for three and four people which would be nice to eventually have available.

BBW..You are so darn right in your explanation, but why do you say "sorry Fencer" all the time? LOL
We dont need to apologize if we try to help him to make his site mor fun, right?

Well Ugh...I cant help if you dont see the point in auto-pass, thats your problem.
And..i dont think you are the right man (or kid i guess) to judge people who are posting on the boards.
We have seen many (too many) dirty posts from you on this family site in the past and i suppose we'll see even more in the future.

29. August 2004, 03:35:27

I suppose you will too, that's insufficient by which to arbitrate the worth of my post's content. I see the point of auto-pass, I also recognise Fencer's groundbreaking acheivement with this site is membership involvement and you as a member are reducing my enjoyment of the site with this crap. Fencer has said "no", it's an easy word/concept to understand, you must've been familiar with it since your pre-speech era, why are you still going on about it?

29. August 2004, 03:38:43
Andersp
Ugh..first...if you have time to scroll then youll see that Fencer started this "autopass crap" this time.
..and second...your dirty posts have really helped
to make these boards fun to read!

Subject: I see why its not important to UG
Out of 1500 games played.
Only 8 games of reversi (In my eyes, the main game that needs auto-pass)
100+ games of backgammon, which auto-pass could be used on.
6 games of checkers that ALREADY uses a type of auto-pass

The rest are games of chess varients and halma etc, where auto-pass would not be needed nor implemented.

So I would say Ug is being selfish.

When bumble asked me to moderate this board while he was in Athens he said, 'You won't have any problem unless some idiot mentions auto-pass.'
130+ posts ago someone did. Fencer!

It's put me in a bit of a pickle because it's a feature request and has involved a great deal of discussion so I can't in all honesty see a reason to moderate any posts...until now.

The subject has been done to death. The feature request has been made. If Fencer doesn't want auto-pass then he's not going to add it no matter how much bleating, begging, reasoning etc etc goes on.

I suggest if you want to debate the matter any more then do so elsewhere. The main reason is that when Fencer sees this board I want him to see feature requests and not a debate. I'm sure Fencer has neither the time nor inclination to wallow through the debate posts to find a new feature request.

Enough is enough. Please!

yes, since the site essentially thrives on the popularity of the games offered, it makes perfect sense to me to let the members choose which game should be priorized to be added next.

You are right, Fencer mentioned auto pass first, but i wouldnt call him an idiot :)
I apologize that the subject "lost track" and its easy to scroll and see when it happened.
A guy who made 13 (thirteen) moves yesterday and usually is spending his time by posting 'dirt" all over the boards attacked me for making Brain King less enjoyable. Sorry, but i had to defend myself.
As you and others can see im not the only one who wants auto pass but for some reason i have been picked as the "nagger".

auto pass could work on this site, but i think the key is more in finding opponents who like to play quickly if that's what you're after. Many top players on this site (including ughaibu!) will finish a game in one session.
