Subject: Shogi notation
It would be nice if the Shogi notation shows when a player waives promotion of a piece. I beleve this is usually denoted with the character = after the move. When replaying my games over an actual board, I've been confused by this, so I figured I'd bring it up ;) Of course, the ultimate suggestion would be a .psn/.kif/.csa export feature, but I'm not sure the format is standardized enough for this.

Subject: Waiting Games Feature
Hello all, I was wondering if it would be possible to show in one's waiting games list the BKR range that is acceptable for one to join the game. For instance, the following is currently shown:

Japanese Chess Normal game any player black 1 day

I propose the following:

Japanese Chess Normal game 1800 <= BKR <= 2200 black 1 day

What does everyone think?

Subject: Random games
I know we can join tournements which have random games, but would it be possible to just put out random invites in the waiting room, which we could accept? If so perhaps an extra column in the profile page for random games wins/draws/losses and tourneys won?

Subject: Cho Shogi
I'd like Chu Shogi on this site. Where I play it now is way too much trouble. Brain King would make the playing of it very easy compared to the play by mail service I use. I'm sure the other players on that site would come over.
I'll need the directionally marked pieces to play it though as I can't read the Kanji marked ones.

an after thought...does this exist? a simple design-turn based strategy game based on:
tanks

LionsLair: I support that. Generally, it seems to be good design to have all information having a significant influence on the game's future appear in the display. It was the same sort of upgrade when the check counter has been added to Three-check Chess.

But here is a great list of abstract games, always with mention of the copyright when there is one. There I found all the most interesting ones I knew and many others : http://www.di.fc.ul.pt/~jpn/gv/index.htm .
Tycho: I vote against Abalone, because though it is a very nice game, it is all too easy to build a unbreakable wall and draw in this way. Even the authors acknowledged that, and had to invent contrived etiquette rules to force the players into taking otherwise unnecessary risks.
The other ones are great suggestions, I may add some very simple and quite well-known games (all on the website I mentioned) : Pogo (good start in stacking games), Twixt, Hex (good start in connexion games), Isola.

would it be too much trouble to add "crawford round" to the multi match gammon games when the game is in a crawford situation? it would save on the guess work (short term memory loss) for a game that only gets played once every few days...

*BOB*on*Bush*: Isn't it called "in passing" in English? No other move in Chess is spoken of in French when speaking English. I keep a copy of the rules to regular Chess with my Chess set. For some reason this rule about a Pawn capturing a Pawn in passing is one a lot of casual Chess players and bar patrons do not know. The other rule that seems to come up for disagreement often is promoting a Pawn to a Queen when you still have your original Queen on the table. Yes, you can have two Queens at one time in regular Chess.

Subject: Re: Copyrighting "En Passant"
this started as an innocent aside to the en passant rule

*BOB*on*Bush*: i won a $20 bet on the rule once- when i took a pawn en passant and was told i couldn't do it! i took the move back but we made the bet- left it at the bar and the next day i went to the library made a copy- went to bar and collected the $40;]

Marfitalu: Apparently you know the rules for Chess but not for the copyright.

you're dissing me- but i'm cool;]

*BOB*on*Bush*: pray tell- exactly what copyright rules did i break;?]

Marfitalu: Maybe the copy of the book ?

*BOB*on*Bush*: Maybe I didn’t copy the entire book-Maybe I copied ONE page [de minims copying (copying a small amount) is not copyright infringement;]
Maybe it was for educational purposes;]
Maybe I gave the author credit.
Maybe I didn’t publish it, nor call it my own creative work.
Maybe it was not creative work.
Maybe it was public domain!
Marfitalu: “Enpassant rule appeared at the begining of the Renaissance”

Maybe you don’t know what ‘exactly’ means.
exactly: In an exact manner; accurately.

You put yourself out as an authority on copyright infringement- while inferring I am ignorant…

Subject: BK Time
When I set a time for my tourney to start... it actually isn't the time that I am thinking, because it is set for BK time which is different than where I am. Can that be changed or at least noted on the tourney page where you set the tourney start date and time... that would help me instead of setting my time, and then going to edit it, and see it, and then edit again until I finally get it where I want... that would be awesome...

skipinnz: in Fischer's clock games, there is no last possible moment to move - the time you have is for the whole game, not for the move. But as Dolittle pointed out, this discussion is a bit off topic...
All I want to say is that if you don't want to play against slow players - don't play against them. Brainking offers many possibilities to choose how and against whom you play your games. That is no argument against a speed rating or such. This is just a reason NOT to limit anybody. As mctrivia said: I payed for unlimited game slots. And I won't give them away because some people complain about some slow players. If you don't want them in your tournament, make your tournaments private! Marfitalu does so, he organizes huge invitational tournaments - it works perfectly!

skipinnz: Still can't limit people that payed for the right to have no limits. There are a select few players on this site that are perfectly capable of playing on over 1000 games a day. If you want quick games put 1 day time limits. If you allow vacation days they will run out really quickly if they don't play every day and you have the option to not have days off.

Mr. Shumway:I think you are missing my point, everything you have said is correct but an example is a game stairs that I challenge somebody in takes a long time to finish if the opponent waits until the last possible moment to move. This also happens in Tourneys where a second round can't start as there are still games to be completed which might have no bearing on the round winner, but everyone else has to wait for their games to be completed

Subject: Re: Fischer's Stairs
Mr. Shumway: Yes, there are Very Fast Fischer's Stairs, but, as advertised, they are Very Fast. The only reason I haven't switched from Standard to VFF Stairs is that I can't be sure of maintaining an average pace of one move every 3 hours.

Fischer's clock would solve most of the time-related complaints I hear on BrainKing, if people would only use it. But a preference for Fischer's clock doesn't imply a preference for Very Fast time controls.

I'd like to request one or more sets of stairs that use Fischer's clock with somewhat longer time controls -- perhaps somewhere between 3/1/7 and 7/3/15.
