I have another idea for a game,a word game.
a board...8X8 squares.
each play takes turn placing a letter anywere on the board.
if you make a word, you score a points.words can be horizontal or vertical or diagonal.
play continues till all squares full.
2 letter word = 1 point
3 letter word = 2 point
4 letter word = 3 point
5 letter word = 4 point
6 letter word = 5 point
7 letter word = 6 point
8 letter word = 7 point
---
what ye all think?

Fencer: I think circle is good because it is simple.

I have seen many chess boards with very nice pieces - but it was very hard to play chess on them, because you have to concern to recognize which picture is for which piece (and thus you can't concern to game)

That's my opinion of course, maybe others would like to not change anything :-)

A simple circle doesn't look nice. I mean a stone. A real stone.

On the other hand I think pictures can be created in few minutes and because this site offers advanced features for paying members, I think it could be created by webmaster. If it were no differences between paying and non paying members, I'd create images of course :-)

But I'm not saying I don't agree with this 'paying' scheme :-) If it were problem for webmaster to create images, I'd create it myself :-)

I'm sorry for broken link (though I think it is correct). Maybe it has been fixed by somewhere :-)

I think miuek means something like what they have at Little Golem (see http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/game/game.jsp?gid=117746.) I think that black pieces might look like they all "belonged" to the black player, though. Maybe I'll try and draw something...

I think circle with appropriate size and color would be fine. You can check this link as an example. IMHO should be circle filled with different color - not grey but say black ?

Many thanks to you

Subject: Amazons board changes
Hi,

this site is great, however I have one proposal. It would be nice to have ability to personalize board layout (especially I'm thinking of Amazons board). It is very hard to play Amazons when arrows are represented by really arrows. I think it would be better to use go stone instead. Or (because it is not so easy to implement it) what about changing of Amazons board layout (for all users) ? I think many Amazons player will agree with this proposal.

Best regards

miuek

Now I remember, to be exact, my idea was not really about variable grouping in the combo box "move and..." but about variable sorting on main page, then you would use only "move and go to next game" in game page and it would be enough.

I think fencer noticed some of my ideas before and may be moved something to his TODO list, though more reactions from other people were only about my complex tournament rules generator idea or something I think.
"move and" would have more useful variations, for example move and close game window, move to next game of this type or wait here if none is available (with some "try again" button available) and similar, to prevent unnecessary loading of main page and so on.

I posted similar request about variable grouping some time ago, and I posted some good idea about tournament filters also. And I posted also a suggestion about changing to thread based discussion boards long time ago, in such case my messages I mention here wouldnt be burried below tons of others . Of course there were lots of other useful suggestions created by different people also

AbigailII: I sent fungame this define idea too. I think that'd work for everyone and you could group the games as you would like to or not at all. It would certainly come in handy for someone that plays lots of different games and just wants to focus on one type. I don't play too many games or different ones, so it'd not get too much use from me.

Subject: Re: !!<FR>!!
fungame: I second fungames wish. I have wished for the same functionality for a long time -- however, it works best if one can define their own categories. I would like to group games whose main difference is the starting position, or first couple of moves, so I'd group all the backgammon variants, I'd group pente/open pente/small pente, I'd group five in line/pro five in line/swap five in line, but I wouldn't group line4 with linetris or anti-line4, and I'd certainly wouldn't group all the chess variants.

Walter Montego: I use of course "move and go to next game of this type" combo box setting. But imagine when you have 5 hg, 5 bg, 5 ng, 5 cg games and 500 other games. Then you need to move in 5 hg, return to main page, scroll down until you find 1st bg (not so easy between 500 other games), play all bg, then main page and so on. With a setting "move and go to the next game of this category" you would move in all those 20 games in one row, if some opponents make moves meanwhile - you get it right there, you can simply play with very good move/time ratio and no main page load is necessary.

fungame: This is no such deal like that. What you can do is what I do. After you've played your last game of Backgammon with someone and the hit the "Move and go to next game of this type" button and are redircted to your main page just go to the Hyperbackgammon game that's next on your list. Let's say you have 23 games where it's your turn. Now just play them and keep hitting the button. This will play your Hyperbackgammon games off next. Eventually you'll use them up and get redirected to the main page again. Now you can move in the next type of game that you have in mind, or if someone has moved in one of your Backgammon games you can go there. All you're talking about here is one extra click at the end of a series of moves. Works fine for me. I'd think it work even better for someone that has a lot of games going since it'd take even longer to use up all of one category before getting sent to the main page. It also gives me achance to survey other categories of games in which my opponents might have moved in since I play a variety of game types.

fungame: This feature already exists. Use the top dropdown to find it and then set it as your preference. That is exactly the category that I have mine for. That way the lower drop down goes to the next game on time and the top one goes to the next game of that type on time.

I would really welcome "move and go to the next game of the same category" or something like that (same groups like in "new game", for example all gammons. Would make the moving process faster for those who play all gammon games fast and the rest slower, and similar.
