honestly, I just found out it was out last week lol. I don't worry about FF like I used to with IE. Not as many loopholes so you don't need to update every 14 hours.

where do you go to upgrade? My little green upgrade button seems to be for add-ins.

Subject: Animations....
My PC stopped animating animations
I dont know what happened.
At first I thought it was just BK emoticons then I went to my chess forum and none of those emoticons were working either.
(my curser is animated and works and also I see animated banners) But nothing else is animated on web pages.. (smileys, emoticons and the like)
Even my own set of smileys dont work anymore.
http://gkwarriors.com/smileys/

I have checked all my settings and dont see anything different.
I even upgraded to the new 1.5 firefox but that didnt help either.

Then I checked on IE and they didnt work there either. So its not just firefox :(

Any ideas on where to look to fix this problem?

Thanx,
Eric

Try Ctrl + F5. When my emoticons stick and don't move I just ctrl+ F5 and it makes em work again.. Can't hurt to try..
* Or is it Ctrl+ shift F5.. hmmm..
Pretty sure it is Ctrl+F5

Arctic Warrior: have a look at playBunny's remark. it can also be that your firefox browser uses the same setting (regkey) to set gif animation that IE uses. so the setting can be inherited, even if you don't use IE.

you can try also a non-browser program that shows animated gifs, there's a load of free ones on download.com and others. that's just to check if your pb is somehow browser related or something else.

Arctic Warrior: try the off/on routine:
uncheck animation
save settings, quit browser
start browser, check animations
well?

for firefox, I don't see either where it is accessible from the menu. You can change it by editing your prefs.js file. the key is:

// Image animation mode: normal, once, none.
// This pref now has UI under Privacy & Security->Images.
user_pref("image.animation_mode", "normal");

there's a lot of info in http://www.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html

(I use Linux, but I think it's the same for windows)

If possible, try to exchange it by another types of CD in shop you bought previous ones.

What kind of CD driver do you have?
It can be that you bought faulty or defective CD´s . Try to find some app using to find out all infos about your CD´s for example in www.cdmediaworld.com. Maybe that can help.

I have always had trouble when trying to use CD-RW's I messed with them for a long time, then figured out it was much simpler and even cheaper to just burn it to regular CD-R, then burn a new copy if needed and throw the old one away.

Pythagoras: Well, that "tester" tells me my Java is OK, but "I can NOT do applets", which is ridiculously wrong :) I mean, how can it say "indeed" in the first 2 tests and "NOT" in the third??? Especially since I also play in Pocket Monkey, where Java applets are the heart of their system :)

So, everyone, please stick with the OFFICIAL tester:

There are no 3 tests!

The 1st box/test says "something".
  • If this "something" is exactly like the second box(that you thought it was another test) then you have Java enabled and it's working!
  • If this "something" is exactly like the third box(that you thought it was another test) then Java is not working properly in the Internet navigator you use to see that page.....

Well i said that the 3 boxes there were no 3 tests....Only 1 with the other 2 be just explanations.....

That's such a poorly designed web page. The two "explanation boxes" serve only to confuse.

To confuse....? If someone read the page will not be confused....If you just read the boxes then yes you will be....

playBunny: Well i didn't design that page nor i have any participation or relation to them so i don't care.....

ps. There are no 3 tests! and then Well i said that the 3 boxes there were no 3 tests... Actually you implied the 3 boxes, which isn't the same.

I didn't implied the 3 boxes. It's what i take for granted that we speak about the first 3 boxes!
    Here is why:

I answered to WhiteTower's question that was(the important part is shown with bold):
"Well, that "tester" tells me my Java is OK, but "I can NOT do applets", which is ridiculously wrong :) I mean, how can it say "indeed" in the first 2 tests and "NOT" in the third???

    and i said:
    "There are no 3 tests!"
    meaning:
"There are no 3 tests in the 3 boxes you said!"
    that means:
"There are no 3 tests in the first 3 boxes in that page."
so you see that i didn't mean:
"There are no 3 tests in that page!"

No! The "in the 3 boxes you said" is supplied since i answered a question and i take it as a hypothesis, that is all the parts of the question excluding the parts that ask something, are taking as valid ones.
So the "in the 3 boxes you said" is not implied by me suddenly to make my statement "There are no 3 boxes!" correct, but it was already a valid one....

For example if Perosn-A asks: "Do you have 3 exactly dollars to give me at 3 May 2006?"
When i answer: "Yes i have" i already mean the 3 May 2006 and the 3 dollars and i don't have to repeat them, and i don't mean the "Yes i have", for any other date ot amount of money.....

"Those" is not needed as i already said since it is obvious that i speak about the contents of his question and not for something else.....
Also WhiteTower didn't talk about some random 3 tests in the page but about the "first 2 tests and NOT in the third" that means for the FIRST 3 tests....

    Subject: Re:
playBunny, Pythagoras: I'm gonna have to choose my words REEEALLY carefully around you guys!!!

What I was implying with my previously-poor working were the three boxes. The still-poor design of that page makes you think that whatever is IN the boxes reflects the reality that applies to your tested computer. If it says "indeed", it means you're OK. Then the third box is stupidly programmed to say NOT when it actually means INDEED, if only a less poor sentence was chosen to surround the latter...

Plus I'm not sure if this is still valid or not since it still says version 2005 on this page (2006 is current version), but it allows you to get 50% off the price. (So instead of around $50, it would be around $25): http://www.trendmicro.com/offers/ms-wsc/english.asp

Not only is it an anti-virus, but also a firewall, spam filter, spyware protection, etc... I love it. New updates for it almost daily (which it will find & update itself), and never had any problems with viruses/spyware getting on my PC while I had this loaded.
