Zort: They probably have the messages disabled. Some people do that here. Why, that's beyond me.

Pedro Martínez: Why? I can give you two reasons: 1) not having messages means people can't say something to me, and then get all worked up because I don't reply. 2) it reduces the distance between the board and the submit button, which reduces scrolling.

To add a third reason of my own:

3) We have PMs and discussion boards for talking to people, but when playing I don’t want to waste time thinking up a reply to the random messages my opponent is sending, especially when there are other games waiting where it’s my turn.
