July 25, 2010 Obama Admin Approved Lockerbie Bomber Release Clarice Feldman Some folks in Scotland are angry enough to leak to the Guardian what many of us already suspected. The Lockerbie bomber was released only with our approval--grudgingly given perhaps--but given nevertheless.
Barack Obama is under growing pressure to release a letter that reveals the US grudgingly supported freeing the Lockerbie bomber on compassionate grounds.
The letter was sent to Scottish ministers by a senior diplomat at the US embassy in London last August, eight days before Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was released from prison because he was dying from inoperable prostate cancer.
Obama's administration has refused to allow publication of the letter, in which the US says allowing Megrahi to live at home in Scotland would be "far preferable" to sending him back to Libya under the prisoner transfer deal brokered by former prime minister Tony Blair in 2007.
Artful Dodger: Ah yes.. we've a small problem with the last government having over spent.. ya know like Bush did.. leaving the USA in trillions of dollars in debt.
So every public budget is being cut. These secret plans are probably just people talking about how we as a country can save billions of pounds this year. It's not like the American healthcare companies who refuse treatment for a profit. That is trully callous. How on earth did they get away with turning down 9/11 emergency service hero's is beyond me.

Temo: Re:The post about Harry Reid doesn't make sense. It's a lie because of the Republicans.
Tuesday: No I don't. I'm pointing out that Reid is a liar. and don't be naive. Democrats dipped into the fund as well. they are the authors of most entitlement packages (which are nothing less than attempts to buy votes).
excerpt is from the 1998 Senate Budget Committee session.
What we've been doing, Mr. Chairman, in all reality, is taken a hundred billion out of the Social Security Trust Fund, transferring it over to the spending column, and spending it. Our friends to the left here are getting their tax cuts, we getting our spending increases, and hollering surplus, surplus, and balanced budget, and balanced budget plans when we continue to spend a hundred billion more than we take in.
...
We owe Social Security 736 billion right this minute. If we saved 117 billion, we could pay that debt down, and have the wonderful effect on the capital markets and savings rate. Isn't that correct? Thank you very much, Sir. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

Abuse of the Social Security Trust Fund Began in the 1980s by Allen W. Smith / November 28th, 2009
The mishandling of Social Security funds has been going on since the mid-1980s. As soon as the surpluses, resulting from the 1983 payroll tax hike, first began to flow into the Treasury, politicians from both political parties began using the money like a giant slush fund. At that time, it would be at least 30 years before the funds would actually be needed for Social Security, so politicians developed the bad habit of “temporarily borrowing” the money and using it for non-Social Security purposes. That bad habit never was broken, and every dollar of the $2.5 trillion in surplus Social Security revenue, generated by the tax hike, has been spent, leaving no real assets in the trust fund.
Temo: Re: I agree that we conservatives...need to arm ourselves and get ready for a huge fight.
Artful Dodger: Are you actually literally saying that there is a need for armed warfare against liberals? That position is way overstating things isn't it? Particularly if, as you say, conservatives will win in a landslide this November.
SHIRLEY SHERROD, ON ANDERSON COOPER 360 ON THURSDAY: I know I've gotten past black versus white. He's probably the person who’s never gotten past it and never attempted to get past it. I think he would like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery. That's where I think he’d like to see all black people end up again.
Um Shirley, how is that "getting past black versus white." ?
Trapper of Cnn: "This woman's been offered a job by the Agriculture Department as a Deputy Director of the Office of Advocacy and Outreach, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. And she's saying Andrew Breitbart wants to return to the days of slavery? Now, you can think what Andrew Breitbart did was reprehensible, irresponsible, unfair and a total smear. Does that justify saying he wants us to go back to the days of slavery?"
Temo: told ya race was in the news - the dems just keep bringin it up again and again
Former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean on Sunday accused the Fox News Channel of being racist.
Dean continued, "They have been pushing a theme of black racism with this phony Black Panther crap and this, this business, and Sotomayor and all this other stuff...The Tea Party called out their racist fringe, and I think the Republican Party's got to stop appealing to its racist fringe."
Yeah, Dean must mean this about the "Black Panther crap." Here's a quote from the Black Panther member that intimidated blacks and white outside a polling place. Yeah, it's on tape.

CHRIS WALLACE, HOST: Let me bring in Governor Dean, because the fact is...
HOWARD DEAN: Yeah, Chris, let's just...
WALLACE: Go ahead, sir.
DEAN: Let's just be blunt about this. I don't think Newt Gingrich is a racist and you're certainly not a racist, but I think Fox News did something that was absolutely racist. They took a, they had an obligation to find out what was really within the clip. They have been pushing a theme of black racism with this phony Black Panther crap and this, this business, and Sotomayor and all this other stuff. You, I think you got to be very, I think the, look, the Tea Party called out their racist fringe, and I think the Republican Party's got to stop appealing to its racist fringe. And Fox News is what did that. You put that on...
WALLACE: Wait, wait, wait wait...
DEAN: Yes, I think the Obama people...
WALLACE: Governor?
DEAN: Yes.
WALLACE: I know facts are inconvenient...
DEAN: Yeah.
WALLACE: I know facts are inconvenient things, but let's try to deal with the facts. The fact is that the Obama administration fired or forced Shirley Sherrod to quit before her name had ever been mentioned on Fox News Channel. Did you know that, sir?
DEAN: What I do know is that video came out --
WALLACE: Did you know that, that her name. Did you know that she was fired before her name was ever mentioned on the Fox News Channel?
DEAN: What about the video? Where did that play. What about the incomplete video?
WALLACE: The video had never played on the Fox News Channel before the White House fired her. It was on Andrew Breitbart BigGovernment.com. We're not responsible for them. I agree with you it was out of context, but it wasn't on Fox News so maybe you shouldn't be using the racist phrase either.

Open Thread: Britain Decentralizing National Health Care by NB Staff For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Britain decentralizing its National Health Care.
Practical details of the plan are still sketchy. But its aim is clear: to shift control of England's $160 billion annual health budget from a centralized bureaucracy to doctors at the local level. Under the plan, $100 billion to $125 billion a year would be meted out to general practitioners, who would use the money to buy services from hospitals and other health care providers. The plan would also shrink the bureaucratic apparatus, in keeping with the government's goal to effect $30 billion in "efficiency savings" in the health budget by 2014 and to reduce administrative costs by 45 percent. Tens of thousands of jobs would be lost because layers of bureaucracy would be abolished.
Isn't it embarrassing that as European nations realize their socialist programs are bankrupting them we have a President and an entire political Party trying to emulate here what is failing there?
YOu liberals (and some of you moderates) did the same to Bachmann that you complained about regarding Breitbart and the Sherrod story. Context is everything. How soon you forget.
Artful Dodger: I watched that exchange on Sunday. I wanted to throw something at Dean. I can't stand that nut. He tripped all over himself trying to get around the fact that he was wrong about that video and Fox News.
rod03801: Much like some of the liberals do here. lol I can't stand Dean. He's one of those guys that when he speaks, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard.
