Ewe: Yes,and I've yet to hear my girls purr at what I consider inappropriate times.............I'm not a violent person, but if I was nearby when this occured, with a 2 x 4 in hand
I heard its what kittens do to their mothers when they are feeding from her, a way of stimulating the milk glands. So it is a memory of comfort. Dont know how true that is either?
Its hard to tell because cats also purr when they are in pain, not only when they are happy. Cats purr when in accidents like being run over etc & when they are giving birth also (and having had two labours & births myself, I know that its certainly not pain free lol)
anastasia: Ive read books on it hun and vets are stumped as to the true reason they do it! One says they are taken away too early from their moms. I dont buy that.. Other vets say its just a comfort thing.. When they are truly comfortable and happy its like their happy dance on your belly! I believe they do it when they are content and happy. One of mine drools when she does it on me. EWWW lol When they do it they purr and when they purr they are content. They do have scent glands in thier paws but not as many as in their faces. When they rub their faces (whisker area) on you THEY really are scent marking you then!
Tuesday: I was once told that kitties do that lil massage on you to put their scent on you...not much of a cat person so I dunno...Rose??? Do you know???
Tuesday: Its so upsetting to see a healthy beloved pet deteriorate that quickly. I suppose it could of been one of a number of things wrong with him, only the vet would of been able to say. Even more upsetting for you that you couldnt make it to the vet. Im so sorry this happened.
One of my cats became very ill suddenly & she had contracted hepititus, she was on a drip for 5 days at the vets but made a full recovery thankfully. I dont even know how she got that.
Tuesday: Yes she may be even older as she was a rescue. My cat that died last year was over 16 too. Shes absolutely fit as a fiddle, you could easily think she was only about 6 or 7
Tuesday: Oh for sure.. just liking losing one of your own.. Ive been lucky to have only lost one so far.. That was brutal.. She had lung cancer ( and I dont even smoke!!!) poor thing.. she went quick tho and wasnt in pain. But as mine get older I keep worrying about THE day.. going to be hard for sure.. but hopefully thats years from now!
It isnt rare for cats to live to be 21 or older now days. I have one that is 14 that still acts like a kitten at times. I keep waiting for him to start to slow down but not yet he isnt!
srnity: Firstly can I say...WELL DONE to you! Im so glad to hear you have called, after what I have just read those owners need a good beating!!! You have done the right thing in informing the correct authorites. I hope that dog finds a good home he deserves
Jim Dandy: Awwww, how cute For anybody who might need to give their animal "meds" orally, (been there, with a ferret and a friend's bird), if you get a thin syringe (5ml), and squirt past their tongue, they don't mind as much (don't have to taste it that way) & give em a chaser of water or whatever to get the taste out of their mouth
srnity: I agree, that's why as much as I encourage adoption,I try to steer people from giving animals as Christmas or Birthday gifts.I would rather they didn't adopt at all rather than return it like some shirt they don't want.
Tuesday: I agree with Tuesday..if you KNOW that abuse IS going on then you are contributing to it by NOT calling somebody to report these people. This dog can't look up the ASPCA and place the call himself and ya know darned well that the owners won't call up and say hey..I beat my dog, come take him...he NEEDS you to step in and help...you can report anonymously..PLEASE CALL!
Tuesday: Nooo, more like whacking him full-force with a stick kind of hitting (or kicking him in the side, or smacking him with his leash, or smacking him in the face area...) - I feel like we should trade dogs for a day and see how many times mine drawls blood on them in return, maybe then they'd get a clue
