Asunto: fast player
I think you guys need to first decide exactly what you mean by "fast player", then it should be easy to design the formula.

For example: To me, a fast player is a player who responds soon after I move. When I log on, it is usually my move in that game, and sometimes we are both online and we can make several moves in a row. If that's what you mean by "fast player" then just measure the average time between opponent's move and player's move in each game.

i have another one :

average time per move is determined by 'time online but not moved in the waiting game'

as soon as you come online your time starts running .. until you moved in the game .. maybe the time is multiplied with the games still waiting for you to move ..

when you log off time stops running

this would determine the speed of move .. but not the speed in which you move after your opponent moved

(of course this could be faked by not logging off .. or by logging off each time you read the boards :))

Hrqls: So, if I play a handful of games, and only log on once a forthnight and then play a move in each of the games in which it's my turn, your system would consider me a very fast player.

I doubt that people looking for fast opponents want to play me though.

AbigailII: well in a definition you would be a fast player as as soon as you logon you play your games quite fast

according to your opponents you arent though .. they only see you move once a day and dont care wether you are logged in the rest of the time or not

thats why, from the opponents point of view, i would like to suggest taking the average waiting time per game in which its your turn, but you didnt move yet (wether you are online or not) .. thats seems to me the best way to determine the fast-ness of a player (according to his opponents)

and split it over various game types please ;)

Please move the fast player debate to another board. This board is really more for the requesting of features, not the debate this is moving towards. The Members Only discussion board could use some action if you want to take it there.

Maybe iron out the details there, and come back here with a final idea of how it would be best?

Thanks so much.

harmy: My formula is quite close to your suggestion actually if you pay close attention.
