Otsikko: Re: Open Invite: Top 10% Faster Backgammoners for 2015 3-4
ThunderGr: Hi!
Users lhas limitations firstly from site owner of brainking.com, to use the technical needs when organise a tournament. Secondly have time confusing choose problems to fix the needed criters.

Simply you check the games as you wish, and please wait when the tournament begins.

I am open to hear other ways, to realize better tournament organizations better than this one. And open new ideas of course!

Thank you.

TC: I already said 2 ideas. Post either rating limit or ranking limit. It is possible and there is no limitation imposed by the site owner. You will have to make the calculations anyway before starting the tournament.

If you use the rating limit, you can include that to your tournament creation, so that you let the site handle the legitimacy of the participants. This convenience has been included to the tournament creation *exactly* to facilitate your kind of tournament and not just for show.

ThunderGr:
Yes, it should be easy if the tournament has only one backgammon game.
If it is preferable to arrange all backgammon game types one by one, could be arranged.

But this tournament is for all backgammon game types. Tournament creation page has not enough check and rating points to arrange user BKRs for top 10% backgammon types.

We need else to give a change to join the tournament, if he/she is inside the top 10% any type Backgammon game.

You can search all this tournament page using my alias (TC) and check some development history and ideas spoken related about on.

If you hope, wish and can arrange more acceptable tournament, I am ready to see your tournament and join it!

I else ready to break this type tournament organization and transfer to you (or interested any one of brainking.com user) with pleasure!

TC: I fail to see a special reason why not to create one tournament for each backgammon variation, setting the minimum rating in each.

Even if you do not want to do so, I still cannot see why not posting minimum ratings in the forum for each backgammon variation, instead of a completely unfriendly and obscure 10%. I understand politicians and media trying to confuse the population by using percentages but I am of the opinion that a tournament announcement should be as forthcoming as reasonably possible.

As I said in my first post, I do not think that you should care about my opinion on the matter, since it appears most of the people here are fine with your way of setting up these tournaments, I just said that I am not going to participate as long as it stays that way.

I am not fond of being kicked out of tournaments because the organizer did not bother giving me clear qualification requirements.

ThunderGr: I find it also too cumbersome to check each discipline, especially as it is a moving target - I might be in today, and out tomorrow.
In addition, and I mentioned that before, the top 10% are mostly people that do not play anymore, so effectively this limits it to 2 or 3 % of active players. Which is to small a pool I think.

And finally, I am simply not good enough to make it into the top 10% of most games, so I stopped checking.

ThunderGr: doesn't rating position/ rating suffer from the same problem.? Today i qualify but lose a game and tomorrow i don't. It doesn't seem that hard to figure out if i am in the top 10% in a game at any point, look at the number of people with ratings and divide by 10. Seems a lot off work for the organiser though because he has dcide who qualifies manually, but if he wants to do it that's his business.

Justaminute: The rating does not suffer from the same problem. Obviously, you need to be eligible at the time of registering for the tournament, not at the time the tournament starts. Nowhere in the world in any kind of tournament it is required to fulfill qualification conditions at the *start of a tournament*. Only at the time of registration.

ThunderGr: is that how it works? I always thought it was based on the date the tournament starts.

Justaminute: It's still unclear who is included in that 10%.

- without provisional and without inactive players? http://brainking.com/en/Ratings?tp=23 - there are 553, so the cutoff is at 55th position which is (right now) 2302.

- with provisional but without inactive players? http://brainking.com/en/Ratings?tp=23&ap=1 - there are 590, so the cutoff is at 59th position which is (right now) 2296.

- with provisional and with inactive players? http://brainking.com/en/Ratings?tp=23&ap=1&eg=1 - there are 6263, so the cutoff is at 626th position which is (right now) 2165.

- without provisional but with inactive players? http://brainking.com/en/Ratings?tp=23&eg=1 - there are 3627, so the cutoff is at 326th position which is (right now) 2212.

If you say 'clearly, the first', what if I am inactive or my rating is provisional (or both)?

Also, nobody can know if you made the cut at any given time between now and the tournament start; someone would need to continuously check. Therefore, I assume he would check about at the tournament start, which is slightly different than at the moment you signed up. So - better let you losing games sit around a bit, or you might not make the cut anymore on that day?
