Sujet: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
Artful Dodger: there can be many reasons, some examples
- an unexptected longer illness
- an unexpected change of jobs where internet access is more limited than your previous job
- an unscheduled long vacation
- an unexpected illness of a family member
- unexpected computer / provider problems

the policy of vacation days (or even no vacation days) is different per game site

the policy of this site is to allow vacation days .. and at the moment the policy is to allow rebuying of more vacation days

MadMonkey: that would be my solution as well but with the same side thoughts as you have

maybe allow someone to have a maximum twice his allowed amount per year by buying a new membership (like it is now, but then max twice a single membership)

any post from now on this subject will be deleted
(even answers)

feel free to continue on the real thread though (ideas to solve the abuse of vacation days)

MrWCF: at the top of the game rules is a box with Statistics of won games ... add up those 3 numbers and you have the total

i am not sure if games which were finished (give up, or time out) within 2 moves are in there as well .. neither am i sure if unrated games are in there .. i dont think games which dont count for the win statistics of a player are in there

anastasia: using firefox at home with no problems at all .. using IE at work .. and also having no problems ... but i visit less pages on this site at work and make less moves from work

maybe pawns get some extra's which paying members dont get (ads or something like that) .. maybe those extra's cause trouble ?

andy99: in the 'castle' style (which you can chose on the most top line of this site) there is a column with flags on the most right side of this site .. click on the flag of the language you want to use

another way would be to change the url (the website address) in the address bar of your browser .. the address of this board ends with '/Board?bc=1' just before that is the language code .. for me its 'nl' (dutch)
'en' would be english, 'xx' is unreadable (keycodes), 'es' is spanish (i think), etc.

Bernice: why answer me on here and not in a pm ?
i asked you in a pm because i was waondering why you asked your question : was it because you wanted to let the people know you were having troubles with your connection ? (thats not what you wrote) or was it because you thought (or hoped) that the message about the slow speed would be deleted (which it wasnt and wont) ..

i asked it to you in a pm because that wasnt a subject for this board (as it was about you and not about brainking)

do you have a slow connection yourself ?

i rarely do .. but most of the times dont .. dont know what is causing me to have a fast connection though

maybe a poll should be held asking people wether their connection is fast or slow ?

but please post your comments on the subject you want them to be about and aimed on something else

when you want to answer on that part .. you know how you can send me a pm

there is a link to an article on the blog site on top of this board. you dont have to search for the 3 links in fencer's post

you can post your complaints in here
there are other subjects on this board though which might be buried when everytime when someone encounters a slow connection to brainking posts a message about it ... this other subjects deserve some attention as well

when posting it on the blog site it will be summarized, everyone can get a quick overview and its even easier to see how many people have problems with the connection to brainking (those posts wont be buried by other posts on this board)

i hope its clear now that you can post your complaints on here, but its more structured to post it at the blog site, and other subjects on this board might also come in view that way :)

Andersp: by posting the comments into the blog they would be collected there and it gives an even better structure .. almost like having a different thread

constructive comments or ideas on how to improve the sites performance are always welcome on this board ..

(of course thats my opinion as the mod of this board, while the comment you quoted is from the site owner on his blog site ;))

Sujet: Re:
Jim Dandy: sometimes DailyGammon is slow for me .. slower than BrainKing

FaceBook is almost always slow showing me pages that the page/part of/the application cant be loaded and i should try later

Hyves is slow as well sometimes

those are the 4 sites i visit most ... when i sort them from fast to slow it would be :
DailyGammon
BrainKing
Hyves
Facebook

(and i think ebay would be somewhere between BrainKing and Hyves for me (remembering from the few times that i used it)

Of course i am living in the Netherlands while you are not so the order might be different for you for the reasons coan.net posted

The reasons why other sites you visit might not have the speed problems is that they are not located in the Czech repulic and on the same provider as BrainKing

a solution would be to move the BrainKing server to another location .. but as said before that can cost quite a lot of money

Sujet: Re: VAT on User Fees?
even if the VAT would not appliable to users who can prove to be from another country .. then the site owner can always decide to raise the membership price because of his own VAT increases his costs to keep up the site .. so fencer could also say that he wont take any VAT into account for us users .. but that he has to increase the membership price because his own VAT is making it more costly for himself to maintain the site

(i know i could have worded that in better english ;))
