1 - When you register to the site it's assumed you have read the terms and conditions and agree to abide by them. The fact that most people don't is besides the point: if you decide to register and complain afterwards about rules you should've read before, that's your problem.

2 - If you're seriously ill on a hospital bed and the first (or even the 50th) thing that comes to your mind is "I'm gonna time out on BrainKing if I don't get internet access soon", then you REALLY need to set your priorities straight!

my 2 cents : if i cant play and i used up all my vacation days .. then i would not like it .. but i would accept it

i play for fun and ranking, but fun comes first, and i would miss playing on here if i wouldnt be able to login, but there are more important things in life

personally i would not like my opponent to hand over his game to someone else ... if the new player is much stronger and annihilates me with a short series of moves then it could spoil the game which might have been interesting with someone of an equal level as me .. if the new players is much weaker then it might spoil the game as well as there might not be the challenge which i expected .. and i wouldnt be able to learn from his moves (which i like to do while playing stronger opponents)

of course there is no 100% proof via which you can show someone is playing games for someone else :)

(V): OMG. What if someone is too ill to use the internet?  And not all hospitals have the internet.

If someone else made a move in a game with me I would not consider it cheating.

People take things far to seriously and need to lighten up a bit, afterall it only a game site. It's not life treatening if some else make a move on behalf of some one else.

My main reason for responding to the original post is people telling tales on others.

It will cost you a few bob, but at least you won't (by the rules of this site) be cheating.

I am due to go into hospital myself and I am trying to get through all my games. Also I am not taking on any more games. But there is chance I might not complete all my games because some people take so long to make moves.

Artful Dodger: If people have paid for their membership then it their right to with it what they like with it. What happens if some goes into hospital suddenly? They might ask someone to make thier moves for them while they are in hospital. If they want to take the risk of letting someone use their account that is surely their problem and NOT your.

"You are NOT allowed to let other people use your account. If you believe someone has access to your account, immediately change the password on your profile page."

So what happens if someone is using someone else's account because that person has decided to take a break from BK?

Can a person give their password to another person to make their moves while they take some extended time off?

Seems to me that this is one dog that needs a short leash.

But in other checkers, all jumps are finished before the promotion happens!

E.g. official draughts rules:
"4.15. Confirming article 3.5., a man who passes during a multiple capture, over a square of his opponent’s promotion row, but ends on another row, remains a man at the end of the capture. "

Or brainking's rules for Draughts:
"However, if a pawn reaches the last row while jumping and can jump more pieces backwards, it does not promote and continues jumping as a pawn."

Turkish, Draughts (International), Canadian, Brazilian, Dameo all work that way - a piece jumps as much as it can and then gets promoted. (While English, Czech, Italian, Spanish / Portuguese, Thai doesn't allow backwards or side jumps, so a piece can never jump further once it reaches the king's row).

Only russian is an exception.

If Gothic is an exception too, I think it needs to be stated more clearly in the rules.

It is very weird to me as a multi-variant checkers players, to see a jump sequence aborted in the middle.

In my Gothic Checkers game ( Gothic Checkers (didero vs. mirari) ), I was expecting to be able to move 17... e5xg3xe1xc1 - but when entering the move, it stops upon reaching the king's row (after e5xg3xe1).

If this is the intended way for Gothic Checkers to work, the rules needs to be made clearer, as this is different from all other checkers variants I am familiar with - generally, either a piece is only crowned at the end of its move (after all possible jumps have been made), or, in the case of Russian checkers, is allowed to immediately continue jumping as a king - I can't think of any other variant where the piece's movement is halted while there are still available jumps to be done as a man.

Pedro Martínez: Interesting. I always choose autopass, but I never pay attention to whether or not my opponent accepts it too. I kind of thought that it happened even with autopass on, but like I said, I wasn't paying attention. I will look into it from now on when it happens.

Anyway, I still think it is absurd even with 'no autopass" selected, to have to approve the dice of the first roll of the game. But then again, I have no idea why anyone wouldn't choose autopass to begin with. And as I stated in my previous post, as absurd as it is, this issue on the first roll is also just a very minor annoyance anyways....

Vikings: With all due respect, that is asinine. Why should the software time someone out "for not rolling the dice" on the first roll of the game? It should be automatic since doubling the opponent is not an option. And if it is automatic, then having the player confirm that the dice were in fact rolled is absurd.

That said, if one were to rank this "bug" (I'm not even sure I would call it a bug, just a time wasting feature) on BK's site of 1-5, with 1 demanding immediate attention, and 5 being low priority, I would rank this problem somewhere around 250. It is annoying, but only in a "you can't be serious" kind of way.

I can think of many other things I'd rather have Fencer do to improve this site before I asked him to eliminate this pointless feature which does little more than waste a few seconds of player time every now and then.

Why do I have to click move when I've lost the initial dice roll.
Maybe we should have to click move when going 2nd at checkers and chess.
The time spent on these games caused me to time out in games going on for months that I'd been enjoying.
Clicking move when it isn't my move is asinine!!
