Sujet: Re: Question
xmas is soon: You could not have 12 (without giving someone a free by) and still have it a single elimination tournament.

For example:

Round 1: Start with 12 players, 6 winners
Round 2: Start with 6 players, 3 winners
Round 3: No way to keep it a single elimination without giving someone a free by.)

Matarilevich: On the very first roll that is used on backgammon, each player rolls 1 dice - the higher of the 2 goes first. If it is a double, I believe the system automaticly re-rolls until it can be determined who goes first - so it should be a 50/50 chance of which color goes first. (which white always goes first, but will "pass" to black if they lose the roll

Mousetrap: I think it is on the "to-do-list" about a possible "Little Boss" - who can do things like invite players, assign captains, start tournaments - almost anything the BIG BOSS can do except they can not delete the fellowship.

But yes, I second the request - it would make a nice addition to fellowships.

Summertop: If you look at a fellowship team on the main fellowship page, players who are not on for 30 days will have a gray background.

Unfortunately I believe that when the captain is picking their player, the gray background does NOT show up. One suggestion would be to make sure the gray background is there also since I know some people don't want to kick others off the team in case they come back, but of course can be confusing how it is now when they are picking players for a challenge because you don't know who is not active in the challenge team picking part of the process.

Sujet: Re: blocked user request
Best thing to do is just put that user on block (so they can't unblock, harass you more, then block again) and just ignore them and forget about them.

Some users can be very childish in the way they play like that - ignoring is the best way to deal with those type of users.

emmett: I would not worry about having someone play from the same computer - as long as there is not something very obvious (like many many games in short time with 1 person resigning or purposely losing, etc...) - otherwise I don't think Fencer pays attention.

I know he keeps track of IP and such, but 2 players with same IP alone is not something that should cause you problems on this site (others game sites, possibly... but not here)

Sujet: Question & Suggestion
How many pictures does the "image history" show for a persons icon?

Suggestion: Since the picture is still on the server and already approved, I suggest that there be an easy way to "select" one of your old icons rather then having to upload the image again. For example, after maybe putting a seasonal "Halloween" picture up, it would be easy to go back with a simple click to your old icon.

of course saying that, there should probable be a limit on how many icons the server will hold or you know you will get the person who will upload 30+ icons for them to keep choosing a new one each day of the month. (maybe a limit of 5 or 10) [10 icons since they are small, 5 big pics since they are bigger]

Sujet: New Game Variant Idea
Sorry, no link to this game since it is something I've been thinking about for awhile.

Game: BrainEggs (or Scrambled Brains)

Board: Same as Scrambled Eggs (or Lines of Action)

Goal: To capture all your opponents pieces. (instead of just connecting all of your own) With it's unique way of moving pieces, I believe this would be an interesting game.

Amandakmg365: I don't understand the question either then.

If you are just looking to remove 1 piece that you don't like the placement of, then just click on that 1 piece.

If you don't like ANY of the layout of ALL of the pices, then like Mr. Shumway said - choose the "clear this position" option below the board to clear the board where you can then start over.

Walter Montego: Extinction Chess board is the same color as regular chess. Most Chess variants have a different color border to help users quickly tell them that the game is not a normal chess game - and since Extinction chess plays just like regular chess, except for the rule that you can't lose 2 of the same pieces - it would be beter if the extinction chess board was a different color then regular chess. Nothing worse then having someone lose because they made a mistake about what game they are playing. Much beter to lose because the other person beat you, not because of a mistake (I would rather win because I beat someone, not because they did not relize what game they were playing - at least in my opinion).

maybe default have a different border color, but also the suggestion that people can change the border color of certain games if they don't like it?

tonyh: But how would the computer know who is the "slowest" 1 week into a tournament? Towards the end of a tournament, it is easy to see who is playing slower then others - but what if on day 1, a couple people decide to mess up everyone else and they give each other 30+ days extra for a move. Again, just looking at worse case.

Unless you start to "brand" players as slow/fast, which is misleading since everyone currently plays within their time limits so would be unfair in my opinion.

Sujet: Re: Voluntary time extension
tonyh: The only problem with doing that for tournaments is you will get those people who purposly take a lot of time, and a friend of theirs to give them even more time. In my opinion, for tournaments, the time limit that starts should be the same time limit throughout.

Private, non-tournament games - then if both players agree, then I see no problem with it.

Sujet: Re:
grenv: that would be hard since everyone is in a different time zone.

The best thing to do is since some people likes those types of time limits is do what I do - and that is make sure you never play a game/tournament which does not have at least 1 day bonus - that way you will at least always have 1 day to play the game from when the other person plays.

If you copy "Scrabble" exactly, then you may be in tradmark trouble - but it's so simple to change it just a little and make it your own "game" to get around the trouble, and that is what you see on many other sites - while a few do try to copy scrabble but fly under the radar.

I'm not sure if Fencer's ideas have changed, but if I remember when the idea was brought up before (years ago), Fencer did not like the idea of a word game on this site..... Again, maybe I have a bad memory but I think I remember him giving that opinion.

Summertop: Not really about the rich text editor - since I have mine off unless I need it - since I don't write "fancy" messages often.

But to expand on your #2 - one of my suggestions from a long time ago which I will repeat here is an option to have the submit button ABOVE the game board. On games like battleboats where there are multiply boards, it takes extra scrolling down to find the submit button, and would be much easier if they were also a set above the game board (leaving a set below the game board with the message box in case want to write a message - and of course, just an option since some will not like to see if above the game board)

Sujet: Re: Smiley Menu
Summertop: I would also like the smiley's to be similar to how the HTML font size stuff works.

That is pawns can see the smiley's and such, but if they type the *###*, it will not work.

That way paying members don't have to be carefull on what to send to each person depending if they are a pawn or not.

Sujet: Extinction Chess
Any chance that Extinction Chess could get a color border like other chess variants.

Without a different color border, it looks like normal chess - and is easy to mess up a game if you don't notice the name of the game - where as a different color border quickly grabs your attention and tells you it is a different game.

Sujet: Mastermind
I love mastermind also. I could see a few different ways it could be brought to a game site.

1) opponent vs. opponent - that is each person picks the color sequinse for the other player to figure out. If you figure yours out before the other player figures out the one you made for them - you win.

2) System picks a random one for both players to try to figure out - one to do it in less moves wins (can not see what the other player is guessing)

3) The system picks a random one, then each player takes turn trying to solve the same puzzle - so you build off of what your opponent does. That is player 1 playes. Player 2 sees the results, and tries the next guess. and so on.... even though while I type this one, I can see some just stalling forever so they don't give their opponent any help, so this one might now work.

I would also recomend that at least 5 codes are used (I believe the 4 has been solved in like 5 moves) - 6 would be best. (Or have 2 versions - a 6 long, and ultimate 8 long or something)

At one time, Fencer talked about a limit of 5 days for auto-vacation days to be taken (IN A ROW), and most seemed to like that idea - I'm not sure if that is still a planned feature or not.

That way if people need to take a vacation, they can schedule them for however long they need - but if an emergency comes up, the 5 days of auto-vacation (and 2 weekend days) should give someone up to a week to hopefully recover from the emergency to get on-line.

edited to add "in a row"

grenv: You might want to send a PM to Fencer, let him know the game ID and such. There was once a "bug" which let people take advantage of the vacation system and not lose days. I thought it was fixed, but maybe there is some other bug Fencer does not know about (or it wasn't fixed).

Anyway, let Fencer know which games they are and I'm sure he could take a closer look at them....
