Sorry for not writing this in Portuguese, I don't know how to write that yet
I have a question : my girlfriend and I and our daughter of 1 year old are planning to spend our summer vacation in Portugal. We want to visit lissabon as well as some authentic portugal Ideal would be a holiday home so our daughter can sleep and we won't be confined to a hotel room, as well as being within walking distance of some restaurants .... abdomen of course close to lissabon :)
Maybe we are asking too much ... but maybe its possible :)
Hrqls: Well, about Lisbon, Cascais or Sintra, I'm sure some compatriots could tell you a lot more, because I only go there almost as a "punishment"...just kidding, but truth is that I only go there in work, so I guess who lives there will have better information rather then me...However, if you ever think about visiting Oporto or Minho (north), I can help you find places to stay or good restaurants to eat. All depends, of course, of your economic planning for vacations...
Darles Chickens: lissabon will be the main goal of our visit as well as some authentic villages and nature (not much sunbathing) ... coimbra is a famous name which we might visit but it might be a bit too far ... depends on the mood of our daughter (then 14 months old) :)
Our travel agency recommends and it looks great but we wonder if there are any restaurants in walking distance
We are very much interested in restaurants I eat everything and love foreign cuisine, my girlfriend is a vegetarian Here in the Netherlands we spend about 80 euro we go out for dinner with the 2 of us (btw we don't drink wine or other alcoholics) .. I guess in Portugal that would be about 65 euro ?
Hrqls: Lisbon is one of the most beautiful citys in the world!!! You'll love it! Anyway, Mr. Darles belongs to the north, where you eat properly and cheap... it's great for vacation, and Oporto is also a very peculiar city.
Finding a holiday home in Lisbon it's trully hard. You'll find a lot of them (and some Dutsh camping parks, for example) out of the cities. I know one near Coimbra (an old universitary city, pretty enougth to earn a visit). Tell me if this is an option.
Anyway, you have a lot of small hotels in the heart of Lisbon where you can feel almost as "at home". If your interested, I may link some of them to you.
We will probably take the public transport to visit lissabon and rent a car to visit other places but we would like to walk (or ride bike) to the restaurant
Before we had vacations to Cuba, India, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, etc Now we have our daughter who will be 14 months by then, so this will be a totally different vacation with lots of trial and errors :)
Hrqls: Well, to stay in Cascais (Vila Bicuda Resort). you definitely need to rent a car, because our public transport is not trustfull. I guess the subway don't go until Cascais, and... you could only trust in taxi to get to Lisbon properly and come back by night. It's... I don't know, maybe 10 kms far away from the town. It's the "rich field" of Lisbon. Peaceful, but not the authenthic Portugal I think you want to know. Anyway, I'm sure it's great for you daughter.
About restaurants... you'll have them all over the country, it's no problem in Portugal! Cascais is plenty of them!
Anyway, if you want my suggestion... why don't you stay in the middle of Lisbon, so you can taste it's amazing "common day life"? It's delightfull, and Lisbon is even more charming for these small details than simply by visiting its monuments. You could drink a port wine at night, in a Fado's house... you could go to the market... you could find your "neighberhood café"... I'm sure you would love it! And... it's Portugal!!! We are very nice and comunicative people! You could stay in the more "international hotel", but in Portugal, you would feel at home the same.
Eating in Cascais (or in Lisbon) can be a little more expensive, but you can lunch and dinner out, here, for... 40 €, eating really properly, with wine. But for "eating vacations", you need to left Lisbon and come to the north... That's what I always do to eat as a king! :)
Just let me know when you come, maybe we could lunch together once, and that way I would assure you would taste real portuguese food! :)
Gabriel Almeida: thats the type of vacation we used to do (and travel a lot during the vacation as well) .. but i dont see that happening with a baby ... we dont want to be confined to our hotel room while she is doing her nap during the day .. thats why we are looking for a vacation home where we can sit outside while she sleeps (and read a book or a dive in the pool, my gf isnt the sunbathing type)
ideal would be to find a vacation home inside lisbon
ideal would be to find a vacation home close to some restaurants so we can walk to the restaurant and walk back with my daughter in her buggy .. or a very short trip by car .. or by rent bike with a childs seat :)
those are ideals though ... so in real life there will be some compromises
personally i think we can do more and find out on the way (trial and a lot of errors) .. but my girlfriend is a bit more cautious :) (also in her taste of food ;))
how far to the north (kilometers) would we have to go for a royal meal ? ;)
i will definetly let you know when we come ... lunch sounds great! i love local food!
Vila Bicuda seems a bit too much, but has a terrace with the room Vila Gale is more in the centre but seems a bit large Cidadle seems outdated and maybe less maintained but is in the centre
do you know any of these ? any opinions about them ? ;)
Hrqls: The more kms you go north, the better you'll eat! :) 300 kms would be great! But other options are available, not so far away.
I'll know something about your options in my travel agency, and I'll let you know. The travel "expert" is a friend of mine (and our best handball referee in Portugal!!!) and he's really an expert, he'll find you some very good options, so you can suggest them in your agency.
