Marfitalu: I know, so do i on MOST my Teams, but not all
Welly, was looking for a way to remove players from a Team, so i showed him the Remove member option. He said he did not have it, then coan.net said he did not either. It sort of escalated from there, some have it and some do not, BUT now Team i have found one (maybe more) that i do not have it on
Odd but i can not see any difference or reason as to why it is there or it is not. I thought it maybe a Team Captain thing, but i have it in ones i am a Captain of and also those i am not
I think Fencer will have to let us know what make it appear or not
Other thought i guess, it could be an option that should always be there for Captains & BB's BUT could be a bug causing it to act irrationally (thats a good word for a Saturday lol)
coan.net: When I switched from Knight to Rook, I became a Rook right away and the rest of my Knight membership was added (one Rook month for two Knight months if I remember that correctly) without me having to ask Fencer for it, so I always thought that it is part of the automatic processing.
But now I am not even sure that my payment was processed automatically
MadMonkey: I think it can do either - but I don't think that is setup in the automatic payment process that works for 95% of the users, so the person might need to let Fencer know what they want to do and have him manually fix it.
If a member upgrades from a Bishop / Knight to a Rook, i thought there Rook membership started right away, and any left over of there previous membership was added to the end
Well, surely it should do so they can take advantage of there new membership for Tournaments etc...
alanback: of course because of the sheer number of dice rolls being generated every day, there will be a large amount of good or bad rolls. you are exactly right. i bet that if you could somehow look at all of the rolls on this site in a day, you would probably see each of the 6 numbers represented fairly evenly.
this reminds me of when i used to regularly scan the forums of a poker site i play at. inevitably ehrte was always someone complaining about the large number of bad beats. what they didnt always realize was that that site does hunderds of thousands of hands on a slow day, and that a certain percentage of bad beats will happen. a 1% chance over 1 million hands is 10,000.
alanback: Yes! I think people just need 'something' to blame when they get so frustrated.
Just out of interest though, Fencer, is the random dice programme 'burglar proof' as someone else mentioned, or could anyone playing here be able to fiddle their dice? (Im a technophobe so wouldnt have a clue about such things lol)
Lambyless: Yes, it was a real revelation to me when I played my first big tournament with precision dice and the rolls were just as "impossible" as they are online.
alanback: Yes I agree & I don't think it does happen. I play backgammon in 'real life' also & the dice are as annoying at times as they are on here (and thats me throwing them so no excuse lol).....so thats just the way it goes
Lambyless: You're right, if it happens very often to the same person that would raise suspicion. I was responding to the suggestion that it should never happen.
alanback: even so, surely it can't malfunction with the same person every time to assist them to win? (which is what the point of this topic is isnt it?)
MadMonkey: I think there was a way to do as you request at one time , but it was open to people abusing the system so was stopped (at least to my knowledge this is correct)
rabbitoid: Au contraire, if no one gets this, the random number generator is definitely malfunctioning. Do you have any idea how many dice rolls are simulated every day on this site? What can happen, must eventually happen, given enough opportunity. A chance of one in less than 100,000? That's probably an everyday event here.
rabbitoid: But if you sit in the bar and the only thing you cant use is a 6, then im sure the chances that Fencer's random dice gives you a double 6 is at least 75% LOL
probability to get a double: 1/6. probability to get 6 doubles in a row: (1/6)^6 = 1/46656 if anyone gets this, the random generator is probably wrong.
probability not to get a double: 5/6 probability not to get a double, 6 times in a row: (5/6)^6 = 15625/46656 or about 1/3. well within reasonable.
I have no vacation days left, and know of others in the same boat, whether like me it was because of no PC connection or moving home, there are numerous reasons
So, what do we do now ? Well myself i try to get here every day, BUT that is not always possible for some people.
There was a mention a while ago about having people able to access someone elses account to play there games & prevent games timing out. Have not heard anymore about that
How about for those who have run out of vacation days the possibility of being able to buy more (say 2 EUR per day). I would say a maximum of 10 so people did not just do it for the sake of it, or take undue advantage.
It would be nice if invited to a wedding, funeral or even having to go into hospital, we did not have to have the worry of games timing out on us
Gabriel Almeida: this discussion was about the dice games on brainking .. not about cheating per se .. no names were being called (i dont allow names being called on this board .. it only leads to lynching of specific players not to a discussion about brainking and its system
if someone can give a list of a player who won extraordinary many dice games by getting too many good rolls .. please ask about it on the board of that game type and ask the experts in that game if its possible to have these rolls this often .. it might be skill or not yet subject to the rule of large numbers .. but again .. try to leave out the name .. we dont want people to go after a specific person .. the only person to go after someone is fencer (and by the way .. asking for bernice to be banned isnt inline with this board either :))
Bernice: And By the way... I don't understand why haven't you been banned yet! ;) "Cheating stuffs" are forbidden discussions, in Brainking. There's always someone in the command that decides this is not the right place to argue that! Anyway, I still don't know where is a right place for that discussion...
Tigger & everyone else: to be a good dice poker player, it seems that you need to know what to do with the rolls you get, that you know what to do with the bad rolls and wait for the good ones to come. Backgammon seems to rely more on what the roll is, but if you dont know how best to use the two dice values you will still be a lousy player.
on a side note: people tend to forget that the probability of an event occurring is not reliant on the previous event. that means that just because someone got (in backgammon) double 6's on their last roll doesn't mean that they have any less of a chance to get double 6's next time. the probability of getting double 6's on any given roll is always exactly 1/36. the same concept applies to all dice rolls.
Tigger: Well I think it is the luck of the draw....for instance ...in a game of triple dice poker I have had 6 5's of a kind...I didnt cheat to get them I guess I was just lucky, and the game is only 1/2 way through so in theory I could get more...
wetware: That's how I see it too. Some players just know how to stack the odds in their favor. Some players I consistently beat in the dice games. Others I play I get taken to school. It's not so much about the rolls they get but their knowing what to do with those rolls.
I suspect Fencer has many safeguards to keep BrainKing burglar free ;)
bouncer: if they are very good in skill games, then they are also very good at knowing the probability in dice games and position themselves for the best chances, it is very hard to beat a player that has a 300 point higher rating even in dice games
Tigger: As you might know, there are some sites that allow you to review dice rolls after a game or series of games, showing what the actual distributions were--compared to the theoretical average values. Neat stuff! Sometimes I'll see that an opponent got more nice rolls than expected, but not so many that would clearly demonstrate some kind of cheating. But those rolls and situations are painful...and they stand out in memory!
I think that in games involving dice (or in other games of imperfect information), very good players will combine a solid grasp of probabilities with an understanding of how those probabilities might unfold in play. They'll do a better job of anticipating possibilities, and will tend to distribute their pieces in play so as to maximize positive outcomes and minimize bad outcomes. I think that at times it can present the illusion that they're influencing rolls or getting access to hidden knowledge...
Tigger: Correct ...I had the same experience many times ...you always think the opponent got more doubles than you but in the end it isn't . But with these players ...mmm... dunno ...but they always got the right dice ...always in any single game ... people can be lucky sometimes but not always . I can't imagine how they could cheat but it is very strange . They are very good in skill games but meanwhile they are lucky in any single dice game .. Golden boys or what ????? :)
