grenvthompson: thanks for the explanation and the link. i've been lucky as my mouse with scroll wheel works very well on this site. while using firefox on the newest mac os.
Roberto Silva: it seems related to that, i can certainly reproduce it by trying to scroll really quickly before the page has time to load... and then it's disabled forever (until I close the browser).
I reproduced on another site the same way... so probably the times I've seen it the page looks like it's loaded, but actually isn't.
Also this is chrome, so may not occur in other browsers... chrome may soon no longer be the best browser :(
grenvthompson: If you can't move the scroll bar with the mouse wheel, chances are the page still hasn't finished loading so it's sort of locked. The pages on this site tend to take longer to load than most.
speachless: It's definitely this site, other sites don't cause it. The scrolling can absolutely be controlled by the browser, just like clicking the button... i'm guessing this is unintentional though

grenvthompson: I think the scrolling of the mouse is controlled by the operation-system of your device and the mouse itself. I don't think any browser site can stop the scrolling of the mouse wheel... I assume the issue is somewhere else...
Carnie: but you don't have the box... you would need to go there and "enter" a few times... crosseyed could get rid of it by backspacing and submitting.
That description box is filled with tags... so i suggest it was deliberate :)... go edit your profile and hit enter a few times, that might do it... or if it supports html put 10x
