Whisperz: It does only if the opened page is "refreshable" - Main page or a game page where it is not your turn. And if you don't have the refresh period turned off.

Only if you have auto-refresh on. If it is just sitting there with no pages being requested, it won't affect the server at all.

I meant if someone just presses the cross to leave the site, and didn't actually log off. I've noticed people are still on my friends online list for a while after they have left the site, but they haven't logged off, if you see what I mean?! Or maybe they have left the window open, and just gone elsewhere.

I think after you leave the site (without logging off) it stays as though you are online for a while, but then your name disappears from the online player list.
Its more likely people have BK open in a separate window while they are on other sites.

Argomento: Question about players on-line status
When I see a player is "on-line" and "browsing the main page", is it possible that they are not really here but just have not logged out? Just curious, as some players seem to be browsing the main page forever, without doing anything. Thanks for your time and help.

When Battleboats Plus is intruduced, you should get multiply hits per turn - hopefully it will be here soon!

Also, to see the last move - The "Game notation" is right next to the board for me and I can see which squares the last hit were - Which I really like because you can quickly see ALL the previous moves really quickly!

Are there other things we do that take up a lot of capacity which perhaps we could cut down on?

I thought I had the facts, based on the posts that you and kitti had made. I still do not understand why you could not play two games, one as eahc color, although I suppose a match would be simialr enough. Regardless, if you are a top player, you should win as either color against a weaker player.

Also, I still take issue with what you said, specifically:

(Kitti speaking about you): But he declined the invite saying that he doesn't want to risk losing many points (he has much higher rating than me) by playing black against me!

then you said:

"I think people should just chill out more & stop getting paranoid by thinking there being persecuted...If they want to play then fine, if they dont want to play, the fine again! Its only a game & theres alot more serious things in life than this. "

so again, I ask you, which one is it? Are you overly concerned with your rating, or are ratings and wins and losses not a serious matter because it's only a game?

Its nice to get your facts sorted out in order BEFORE you have a go at somebody you dont even know!

I offered a single game because some people dont want to play two games for some reason or another, which I have come across before. I OFFERED a 2 game MATCH also with the OFFER to delete the single game...How nice can I be actually be to someone?

I refused to play her on black as a SINGLE game due to the fact I can play black in a match! As pja and Badman said, I have lots to lose on a black game even if we draw the match I OFFERED INSTEAD! she would lose nothing! SO what do I do eh?? you tell me?? do I play her on a single black to which I have nothing to prove as Ive beaten many -2000 with my black, BUT RISK losing a lot of points in which Ive fought so HARD for in numerous awesome matches against the best players ever to play this game, such as Badman, PJA, and Slayer??

Or do I not invite anyone at all because of me FEARING slander of 'grabbing'...I will tell you something mate...If it wasnt for payers like Badman, Slayer, PJA & a few others, then I would have NEVER joined this site, which means you moaning lot would have SLOWER games due to lack of funding through less memberships!

And BELIEVE me..Spiderline4 is huge on IYT, with many awesome players & competions...more & more are slowly coming here, which is great...But if us top 5 players cannot get a game apart from eachother, then what do we do???

Oh by the way Dmitri...wouldnt a simple DECLINE button have solved something that would have never evolved..its that simple..play or dont play...I'll still enjoy my life the same with BK or no BK :)

kitti.. you are actually apologing here? I am appalled. If what you say is true, you owe no apology. Any opponent who does and says what you are claiming your opponent did, is a FRAUD. Anyone who claims to be one of the best players at anything would NEVER try to take the huge advantage of playing only as player 1 in a game where player 1 has a huge advanatge!

If he is such a big player, he should not fear playing you or anyone lese for that matter. Only a fraud is nervous about playing as player 2.

Spiderman, what you said in your defense does not add up. If you do not wish to play individual games, but only two game matches, why did YOU send out the invite to theo ther player? Do you think you are doing the "lesser" players a favor by playing them only with the upper hand?

This is nonsense, and it reflects poorly on you as a supposed top player. I have never delcined an invite, because I know that players of all levels like to play aginst the top players. As the top player in 4 games, I want to be fair and give others a chance to gain the top spots. But if I did not want to play for some reason, I would tell the person I am not playing any games right now. I would never tell the person I would play only as player 1, that is most unfair.

Spiderman, you said you are NOT opint grabbing or protecting your rating, yet you told Kitty you would not play her as player 2 because you did not want to risk losing points!

But hwat you said that most disgusts me is this:

"I think people should just chill out more & stop getting paranoid by thinking there being persecuted...If they want to play then fine, if they dont want to play, the fine again! Its only a game & theres alot more serious things in life than this."

WHAT A PILE OPF GARBAGE! Make up your mind! If you are overly concerned about losing some opints to Kitty, then you obviously do not believe what you said there.

Argomento: Re:
I can't either understand this fuss about 'easy point grabbers'. There aren't that many (talking about spiderline) players in this site and some of the top players are already playing continuously against others. I really can't see any good reason for 2000+ players to decline invitivations from let's say top 5 players. I mean in the sense of protecting their ratings, of course if they just don't want to play it's always possible to decline the invitation. The bigger rist for losing ratings is always in the player with higher rating. And the only way to get better is to play against better players and learn from these games.

I would say that current top 3 players in spiderline are all truly great players not some rating grabbers. Look at their games and you can see that play against any kind of players and usually 2-game matches. All these other small-minded rating fanatics could learn something from them. After all it's only a game and ought to be fun for everyone.

Rgds,
Pekka

SPIDERMAN, I know you are one of the best spider players here. I have looked at your profile and know you have played a lot 2 game matches against the top players. I'm not trying to put you down.

However sending an invite to me and then declining mine with the colors switched really does look like protecting the rating to me! If you were not thinking about ratings why would you refuse to play black against me? You prolly would have won anyways.

I'm sorry if i offended you and i hope we don't have to hold a grudge. I'm not very good at that :)

Argomento: Re:
I'm not sure what the big deal is about playing a much higher ranked player. First of all, there is a decline key. This entire thing could have been avoided had the invite just been declined. I see no reason that someone would get upset. If you don't think it is fair, decline it and move on. Secondly, regardless of the game, I would jump at the opportunity to play a higher ranked player. The points I lost would be minimal, if any at all depending on the ranking difference and I might actually learn something by playing a higher ranked player.

About ratings etc...I'd like to put forward a sensible point across.

I find it very hard on this site to play a good competitive spiderline 4 game as the strength & depth isnt as good as IYT, but I realise this site is relatively new but its progressing well with some good IYT players coming here..this is great news for the site as a whole!

Because I like to play spiderline4, & take a look at my profile as I aint got many games going, I only really like playing over 2000 ranked players in a 2 game MATCH & there arnt many on here...this makes sense for BOTH parties involved...but when I invite a 2000+ player to a game, WITH the opportunity to cancel it & start a 'fairer' match up instead, I dont expect to get a message back from this 'particular' person saying that Im an 'easy point grabber' & Im 'protecting' my ratings! lmao!!

I would like this person to take a good look at my spiederline4 games & see that the majority of my matches are against the VERY best players on here...If I was 'easy point grabbing' or 'protecting' my rankings, then SURELY I would AVOID these top players! BUT NO IM NOT AVOIDING them coz they are the kind of good competitve matches that keep me playing this excellent stratergy game on THIS site!

I think people should just chill out more & stop getting paranoid by thinking there being persecuted...If they want to play then fine, if they dont want to play, the fine again! Its only a game & theres alot more serious things in life than this.

Oh I havnt metioned who his person is, but I srongly agree with them that there should be different ranking points for black games, as its harder to win on black.

Take care readers, & have fun'

Matt :)

I also think that autorefresh is pretty much useless and should be disabled atleast until the server issues are solved. I've turned mine off ages ago. I usually keep brainking in one browser window even if i'm browsing other sites or doing something else on the computer. I'm sure i'm not the only one who does this. If i had auto refresh on i'd be generating lots of unneeded requests to the server. I bet many don't even know about the auto refresh and are stressing the server needlessly.
