Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future.
If you experience connection or speed problems with BrainKing, please visit Host Tracker and check "BrainKing.com" accessibility from various sites around the world. It may answer whether an issue is caused by BrainKing itself or your local network (or ISP provider).
There are those who give offence and those who take it.
May I suggest that those who are exceptionally sensitive take the trouble to both read and comprehend what is normally written in plain english.(When I err in fact or presentation I do appologise).
I did not say that every person, who played those sites at those times, had those attributes. No more when I say there are maniacs driving up the M4 to London every morning, do I say that every driver is one, you are just more likely to meet one.
However during a period when I was in pain most of the time and slept less than 2 hours a day I started to play chess on these sites, at all times of day and night, to keep my brain active, I noticed clear cyclic patterns.
Of course my characterisation of people whose acronyms include "bumboy" "slut" "cum" or any of the thousands of other variants usually associated with porn spam and whose opening intro is "dont like games wanna cyber" as weird and wacko may be offensive to any of you who share those tastes.
However in this instance I feel that I am nearer normality than they and consequently feel the descriptions accurate. I also dont give a monkeys proverbial.
I believe they were using the "waiting games" board as an advertising hoarding and had naturally grouped to times when people leading conventional lifestyles(politically correct enough?) are unlikely to be around.
Last point.. I actually did not criticise the sites except by implication that they allowed this happen. Moderator you cannot disallow comment based on fact of people or institutions on the grounds they cannot defend themselves, you may inform them critique exists, but under those rules you would have to delete virtually every post on every topic (Bush Blair Iraq etc etc) including your own.
How about I re-phrase that then?
People do no want to come to BrainKing to see the players here throwing insults at another games site, particularly one where they may still enjoy playing games there.
Decent people come to this games site to avoid people such as I have described. OR
You meet nicer people on this site because Fencer will not allow that sort of behaviour.
FACT
A lot of the girls on this site who have chatted to me have commented on the lack of "cybersex" freaks.
I do not criticise the sites per se anymore than I criticise the M25 or M4.. as someone so sapiently renmarked "its the people and personalities that make BK what it is".
Or do you not agree that this is a superior site... er by deduction one concludes nicer people...
Of course I agree :o) Its by far the best site in my opinion. But I don't think it does the site any good if new people come here and the first board they visit is full of crisicism about a site they may consider pretty good. They may not stick around to find out what a great site this really is. I'd like to think that the players here are above bashing another site to make this one look good. We all know BK is a wonderful place, with wonderful people. That will shine through without comparing this site to others :oD
I am not knocking whatever site you have just come from.
I just wish to inform you that in nearly a year on this site I ahave only encountered one case of suspected improper behaviour.
I have found no wackos or weirdos and providing a modicum of decorum is maintained, a wide variety of views opinions and prejudices are freely aired and traded.
*sigh* I really hate to add to this joyful banter, but nhb, I played on IYT (and still do) at all times of day and night for three years now, and still have only seen one case of less-than-savory conversation. At that, once I'd declined the non-game invitation, we have had at least one game going since, and nothing further has been said. We do, however, enjoy friendly banter, so even those that you (betwixt the lines) call cyber-freaks have other things about their personalities than sex.
Point: Harley got it right. We don't need to go bashing other sites. I didn't come here to 'get away' from anything. I came here because an IYT friend suggested I check it out. I did, I liked it, and now I'm a paid member of -both- sites.
and so these are the days of our BrainKing lives. Each board tends to be a soap opera. Why watch them on TV? Just come here to play and you can find one on some board.
I have questioned why a pawn is moderator of a board. I don't get why. I thought being a moderator was a plus or privelage for those who helped to pay for the site?
<I thought moderation was something Fencer offered to persons he felt he could trust. Unless, of course, I've missed a 'create new public message board' link somewhere. :>
Argomento: Hail the Queen of the dagger, the pawn is deposed
No Eriisa, Rose's joke has been activated and the pawn has been deposed. Well done Rose, let's all give her a *clap*.
Here was someone who showed some initiative, suggested an option which would make this site better and offered to freely help Fencer out by moderating the board thus reducing the pressure on Fencer's time so he could get on with more important issues. There were a number of times where she withstood some grief from people who resented her "moderating" of unsuitable material and a number of times wanted to quit. (That should have made you happy Rose!) At times the threats and content of pms was very unsavoury ... but she continued, with the help of her friends. It is good to see this conflict has abated and the board returned to normality. She continued to guide the board's development but that is no more.
One of the reasons I came to this site, and stayed, and paid, was the variety of people who you meet here, their acceptance of your views at face value and that competition is keen but friendly. There have been others who have not held these views but we (all?) hope that they are now gone. If this is the way we are to treat a pawn who is trying to improve the site then what is to encourage any other pawns.
When you check you will find that I moderate a number of chess boards, a task I took on because Fencer originally needed some help, not as a reward for paying (I think I was a pawn at that time myself). If we are to follow Rose's lead then maybe all Discussion Board's moderatorrial rights can be rescinded and Fencer can auction them off to the highest bidder ... maybe the site can make some more money from this.
Argomento: Re: Hail the Queen of the dagger, the pawn is deposed
i personally dont mind who is a moderator of a board whether its a pawn or not , if someone has the time and willing to put some effort into it that should be a good thing . i wouldnt like to do it myself though i wouldnt be calm enough when people tried to spoil things .
I dont see why the pawn couldnt have carried on doing the moderating :o( They were contributing to the site in their own way, I hope it doesnt mean they wont become a paying member in the future
Whisperz, I will take all the heat you wanna send my way. What if all us players decided to buy DVD's instead of renewing here? Great for us, NOT so great for the good of the site though is it? So you point fingers at me for saying "I have questioned why a pawn is moderator of a board. I don't get why. I thought being a moderator was a plus or privelage for those who helped to pay for the site?"
Thats fine by me. You stand on your podium and fight for someone who blatantly refused to help support the site all you want. DO you know all the facts before you start your crusade?
Had this person NOT said she would rather spend money on other things then help support the site none of us would have been up in arms over her moderating a board!
Not all contributions need to be financial ... if life is based solely on money then I expect it is probablay pretty soulless ... I guess you are then saying that the pawn's contribution to this site had no value which I think is really a poorer reflection on you than her honesty in admitting she would prefer to buy a new DVD.
This is a game site not a story site, not a joke site, not a poetry site. I do not think a story board is in any way a contribution to the game site. Sorry it is still a free country where I live and I am entitled to my opinion on that! Honesty or not, when a site needs money to run and we are all made aware of this by the site owner and someone says well I wont contribute to help keep the site running, then YES call me what ever you wish to call me.
Oh, to live in a world where you can pay to be free ... nuff sed.
I play here because I enjoy it, but I also enjoy and stay because of many of the other activities as do you, so just because you do not write stories do not belittle the enjoyment this brings others. To be consistent then I guess you will need to be resigning from the following fellowships as they are not primarily for "games" or are you going to let these slip through to the keeper too?

Me thinks Whisperz you both protest too much. To belittle means to put down as YOU HAVE done to me.. I do not belittle any board. You are in fellowships, DON'T you play games in those fellowships? fencer asked for an end so this is my end to it all. Go bark up someone elses tree for a while Whisperz.
I doth do at that, but seriously, all I have done is held up the tape measure, should the numbers you read be not large enough all I can suggest is that you get a higher chair.
Chattytea.... Last day to get your questions to me for Chatty, this time tomorrow I'll be sending her the interview and announcing the next interviewee! (Watch this space!)
i know the decision has probably already been made.....BUT
we have had 3-4 POPULAR interviews...what about an interview with some UNPOPULAR people? like AD...or GI...or...*tauec.LOLOL...or Dano*...no forget taurec or Dano....they are definately out in my book HAHAHAHAHA
ummmm im only stirring hehehehe......sorry Harls :)
Bernice, theres loads of people I'm looking forward to interviewing, and hopefully AD and GI will be among them, as long term members of BK who add spice to the site :o)
Send me your questions for the very first paying member on BrainKing! I have played Zetes a lot, and know very little about him (except that he's a perfect gentleman) so I'll be looking forward to this one!
Don't forget to add if your name can be added to your question, or if you want it anonymous. Its nice to see now that more people are allowing their names to be put with their questions! And I think the questions are getting more adventurous too now people have seen how its working. So keep the questions coming!
I have published something about Brainking in the German Chess magazin "Rochade Europa":
http://de.geocities.com/caissus2000/RochadeArt.JPG (but its in German)
Caissus is probably (not probably,i should say definately!) a better translator, but roughly translated it talks about Chess sites on the internet, and the part about brainking says:
"its a very nice turn-based site out of Czech. where you can play up to 20 games for free, and the graphics are excellent, it discusses the variations available on the site, it discusses its own rating system for each variant, and its discussion boards. its a very nice positive advertisement :o)
Thank you Antje for your help.It will described the two possiblities to play chess (or other games)in the internet (My impression is that to play chess in the internet and special at a chessserver is not prevalent in my (only?) country):
1."real-time",an good example is USCL, or 2."turn-based" with Brainking as an example, where you can play chess and chessvariants too.
In the second part there will described the "Three Checks Chess" as an nice chessvariant with some games (The most chessplayers know only the standard chess and not the varants).Perhaps I will continue to describe the other variants too..
i invited a member to join my Aus/Pom/Kiwi thingy :)
he inadvertantly deleted it and has requested that i invite him again....when i click on his profile the box to invite him isnt there :(
how do i go about this??
thank you
