As far as the 10 game match, it shouldn't be confusing, it is simply a "10 GAME match", you either win by wining more than 5 games, lose by losing more than 5 games or tie by winning 5 games, if it were the way you suggested it would have to be called a "most points in x games match" 9. So yea, if I have a chance to take someones last rook, but that rook is not putting my king in danger - I will not take it to help my odds more. 8.
