Jim Dandy: Other than the bellyache, he was probably in glorious doggie-euphoria What dog doesn't "dream" of eating the WHOLE turkey, instead of just scraps, I know mine would give it a go if given the chance?!
LOL!! OH, JIM.... DON'T TELL ME YOU LOST YOUR TURKEY TO THE APRICOT "STRUDEL"??? LOL!!!
AND TRYPTOPHAN IS A CHEMICAL COMPOUND IN TURKEY THAT IS KNOWN FOR IT'S SEDATIVE EFFECTS. IT'S NOT A DRUG PER SE BUT IT DOES MAKE ONE DROWSY IN THE SAME WAY ANTIHISTAMINES DO. DIDN'T YOU EVER NOTICE HOW SLOW AND SLUGGISH EVERYONE GETS AFTER A BIG TURKEY DINNER? THE TRYPTOPHAN IS PARTLY TO BLAME FOR THAT.... THE QUANTITY OF FOOD WE ALL EAT DURING THE BIG HOLIDAYS IS THE OTHER HALF OF THAT EQUATION. LOL!!! 8^)
Jim Dandy: ummmmm....sorry Hun....what is tryptophan? I hope it isnt a death drug, cause it wsnt the dogs fault, you should have had the turkey in a safer place, than the table waaaaaah
SEAWOLF2: HE WAS A STANDARD APRICOT POODLE.WE WERE ALL SITTING AT THE TABLE WHEN HE DID HIS DEED.WE FOUND THE TURKEY ON THE FLOOR AS HE WAS FEASTING ON IT.HE HAD YET TO REACH ANY BONES.
OH MY! HE DIDN'T GET THE BONES TOO DID HE???? MORE DOGS DIE FROM EATING COOKED BONES, AND IN PARTICULAR CHICKEN OR TURKEY BONES! THE COOKED BONES ARE VERY BRITTLE AND SPLINTER WHEN EATEN AND USUALLY WIND UP PERFORATING THE INTESTINES CAUSING THE DOG TO DIE OF INTERNAL HEMORAGGHING. IT'S NOT A PLEASANT DEATH BY ANY MEANS! WAS THAT A STANDARD POODLE, OR ONE OF THE SMALLER ONES, JIM? I HAD A TOY POODLE ONCE THAT WAS TOTALLY FEARLESS AND WOULD TAKE ON ANY DOG OR OTHER ANIMAL THAT CAME ONTO THE PROPERTY. LOL! SILLY LITTLE DOG... BRAVE, YES, BUT VERY SILLY! LOL!!
Jim Dandy: HELLO THERE JIM! CAN'T REALLY SEE YOUR SMILEY, BUT I ASSUME IT'S GAGGING??? LOL!!! I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT RECOVERING THE SNATCHED CASH MUST HAVE BEEN A HORRIBLE TASK! IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN THAN YOU MIGHT THINK TOO! LOL! I HAD A FRIEND WITH A WEIMARANER THAT AT A $600 CHECK ONCE! THE OWNER HAD TO CALL THE PERSON WHO WROTE THE ORIGINAL CHECK AND ASK THEM TO VOID THE OLD ONE AND REISSUE A NEW ONE. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE PERSON WHO HAD WRITTEN THE CHECK HAD A QUITE A LAUGH WHEN THEY HEARD WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO THE FIRST CHECK! LOL!!!
YES, I'D HEARD THAT STORY ON THE NATIONAL NEWS! LOL!! PAPER MONEY WHEN SWALLOWED IS NOT USUALLY A PROBLEM, BUT HAD THE DOG GOTTEN INTO COIN MONEY IT COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY! PENNIES IN PARTICULAR ARE TOXIC DUE TO THE COPPER CONTENT IN THEM. BUT ALL COINS COULD POSE A PROBLEM IF IT CREATED AN INTESTINAL BLOCKAGE! THIS FAMILY NEEDS TO TEACH THEIR DOG THE MEANING OF "NO" AND "DROP IT" BEFORE SHE GETS HERSELF INTO A MORE DEADLY SITUATION IN THE FUTURE.
HERE'S A STORY FROM THE L.A. TIMES ABOUT A DOG THAT COULD USE SOME TRAINING IN FINANCIAL MATTERS!
DEBBIE HULLEMAN'S DOG PEPPER HAS BEEN KNOWN TO GNAW ON LIPSTICK AND MUNCH ON SHAMPOO BOTTLES. BUT PEPPER GOT HULLEMAN INTO A REAL MESS AFTER GOBBLING NEARLY $750.
"THIS IS PROBABLY THE WORST," HULLEMAN SAID THURSDAY, RECALLING HOW SHE POKED THROUGH VOMIT AND DOG PILES IN THE YARD.
HULLEMAN HAD ASKED HER MOTHER IN OAKDALE, MINN., TO TAKE CARE OF PEPPER AND HER OTHER DOG LAST MONTH WHILE SHE AND HER HUSBAND WENT ON VACATION. PEPPER, AN 8-YEAR-OLD BLACK LABRADOR-GERMAN SHORTHAIR, GOT INTO A PURSE BELONGING TO HER MOTHER'S FRIEND AND CHEWED THE CASH FROM AN ENVELOPE.
HULLEMAN'S MOTHER RECOVERED SOME OF THE MONEY THAT PEPPER SPIT OUT. BUT WHEN HULLEMAN RETURNED AND WENT TO CLEAN UP HER DOGS' MESS OUTSIDE, SHE SAW A $50 BILL HANGING FROM ONE PILE.
THE CHORE OF SORTING THROUGH DOG FECES NETTED ABOUT $400, SAID HULLEMAN, 50. BETWEEN THAT AND OTHER BILLS THAT PEPPER HAD EITHER VOMITED OR SIMPLY CHEWED ON, THE FAMILY RECOVERED $647.
THEY SWAPPED THE SOILED MONEY FOR FRESH CURRENCY AT A BANK. "I SOAKED IT AND STRAINED IT AND RINSED IT," HULLEMAN SAID.
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE WARM WELCOME! I APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE WITH MY VISION PROBLEM.
I WILL TRY NOT TO MAKE MY POSTS TOO LONG IN THE FUTURE, BUT ANYONE IS WELCOME AT ANY TIME TO SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE IF THEY NEED HELP WITH THEIR PETS THAT REQUIRE A MORE INTENSIVE REPLY.
I'M SORRY... I NEGLECTED TO POST IN MY INTRODUCTION ON THE ANIMALS BOARD THAT I AM VISION IMPAIRED. I HAVE GLAUCOMA AND VERY POOR VISION AS A RESULT. THE USE OF UPPER CASE WASN'T MEANT AS "SHOUTING" SO PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT THAT WAY, OKAY?
I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND ONLY POSTED TO OFFER MY "SERVICES" AS A PET CARE PROFESSIONAL TO PEOPLE ON THE BOARDS HERE. IN NO WAY DID I MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE IN ANY WAY.
I USE WEBTV AND I DO NOT HAVE A PROGRAM LIKE COMPUTER USERS DO TO ENLARGE THE TEXT, SO USING ALL CAPS IS VERY NECESSARY FOR ME IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO SEE AND READ HERE. IF THE USE OF UPPER CASE IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE BOARDS THEN I SHALL HAVE TO REFRAIN FROM POSTING ANYMORE. I'M TERRIBLY SORRY IF I OFFENDED YOU. OBVIOUSLY YOU MUST HAVE BEEN OR YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO WRITE TO ME PRIVATELY. ALL I CAN SAY IS "I'M SORRY!".
ANASTASIA - IF YOU COULD PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THE USE OF ALL CAPS CAN BE ALLOWED HERE ON THE BOARD FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE VISION IMPAIRED? I'M SORRY IF I BROKE ANY "RULES" HERE!!! I DID NOT MEAN TO DO THAT, IT'S JUST THAT I HAVE VERY POOR VISION AND THE USE OF UPPER CASE IS TO HELP ME TO SEE AND READ BETTER. THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF MY VISUAL DISABILITY.
SPEAKING AS A PROFESSIONAL HERE, I COULDN'T AGREE MORE WITH YOU, ANASTASIA!
THE USE OF SHOCK COLLARS, OR "E-COLLARS" AS THE YUPPIES LIKE TO REFER TO THEM, IS ENTIRELY TOO MUCH OVER-USED AND NOT FOR THE APPROPRIATE REASONS EITHER!
MANY DOG OWNERS THESE DAYS THINK (OR WANT TO THINK!) THAT THEY CAN TRAIN THEIR DOG IN A VERY SHORT TIME! PUPPIES ARE LIKE BABIES.... IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME, PATIENCE AND MOST OF ALL PERSEVERANCE IN TRAINING A DOG PROPERLY! UNFORTUNATELY FOR THE DOG, THOSE WHO DO NOT LEARN QUICKLY ENOUGH TO SUIT THEIR OWNERS OFTEN WIND UP IN THE DOG POUND OR THE ANIMAL SHELTER.
THE USE OF A SHOCK COLLAR MAY BE NECESSARY IN APPROPRIATE CASES. BUT THAT BEING SAID, I HAVE TO AGREE WITH ANASTASIA THAT IT SHOULD ONLY EVER BE USED AS A TOOL OF "LAST RESORT" THOUGH! IT IS A CRUEL METHOD OF TRAINING AND REALLY NOT AT ALL NECESSARY EXCEPT IN THE MOST EXTREME CASES.
AND SPEAKING OF WHY ANIMALS END UP IN POUNDS AND SHELTERS.... ONE OF THE BIGGEST REASONS FOR ANIMALS LANDING IN SUCH AWFUL PLACES WHERE MANY ULTIMATELY WIND UP BEING EUTHANIZED THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN IS OWNERS WHO CANNOT OR WILL NOT TAKE PROPER CARE OF THEIR PETS. THEY DENY THEM PROPER VETERINARY CARE AND DO NOT PROVIDE PROPER FOOD AND SHELTER OR TRAINING AND SOCIALIZATION. THE USE OF SHOCK COLLARS TO TRAIN A DOG IN THIS KIND OF A SITUATION IS UTTERLY USELESS.
ANOTHER CAUSE FOR ANIMALS THAT WIND UP IN THE POUNDS AND SHELTERS IS PEOPLE WHO DO NOT CHOOSE THEIR PETS WISELY! THEY GET THEM ON "IMPULSE" BECAUSE THE ANIMAL IS "CUTE" AS A PUPPY OR A KITTEN ALWAYS IS, AND THEN WHEN IT GROWS UP AND TURNS INTO AN ADULT THE "CUTE FACTOR" IS NO LONGER THERE. THOSE POOR ANIMALS WIND UP IN THE SHELTERS THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN!
IF ONLY PEOPLE WOULD RESEARCH THE BREEDS THEY ARE INTERESTED IN MORE CAREFULLY BEFORE TAKING A NEW PET HOME THEY WOULD FIND THAT CERTAIN BREEDS, NO MATTER HOW "CUTE" OR "PRETTY" THEY ARE, SIMPLY DO NOT SUIT THEIR FAMILY'S "LIFESTYLE" AND A LOT OF "UNHAPPY ENDINGS" COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN AVOIDED. SADLY, IT IS ALWAYS THE ANIMALS THAT PAY FOR THE MISTAKES OF THEIR "UNINFORMED" OWNERS.
THAT IS WHY I WORK VERY HARD WITH MY DOG CLUBS' BREED RESCUE TO PLACE "SECOND HAND" DOGS IN PROPER HOMES SO THAT THEY DON'T KEEP WINDING UP IN SHELTERS OR ON DEATH ROW AT THE LOCAL DOG POUND THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN. 99% OF THE TIME IT'S NOT THE DOG THAT'S THE REAL PROBLEM IT'S THE OWNER! BUT IT IS ALWAYS THE DOG THAT PAYS FOR THE IGNORANCE OF THE OWNER, AND I FIND THAT UTTERAL ABHORRENT AND INEXCUSABLE.
I PITY THE CHILD WHO COMES FROM A HOME WHERE THE PARENTS CAN'T TAKE CARE OF AN ANIMAL PROPERLY AS IT IS AN INDICATION OF JUST HOW MUCH EFFORT THEY WOULD PUT INTO RAISING THEIR CHILDREN TOO! NOT TO MENTION WHAT THEY'D BE TEACHING THEIR CHILDREN ABOUT HOW TO TREAT ANIMALS AS WELL!!
Argomento: Re: Some pics of Damien...if ya wanna see him :)
anastasia:
DAMIEN IS A HANDSOME AND VERY INTELLIGENT LOOKING GSD, ANASTASIA! GOOD LUCK WITH HIS SCHUTZHUND TRAINING!
AND HELLO TO EVERYOHE HERE! I'M SEAWOLF2 AND HAVE NEARLY FIFTY YEARS EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITH ANIMALS. I STARTED YEARS AGO AS AN APPRENTICE TO MY UNCLE WHO RAISED SIBERIANS. I BREED SHOW/FIELD/OBEDIENCE WEIMARANERS AND RUN A MOBILE PET CARE BUSINESS. I'M GETTING ON IN YEARS NOW THOUGH, SO MOST OF MY SHOWING DAYS ARE OVER EXCEPT FOR THE OCCASIONAL SHOW OR FIELD EVENT. MOSTLY I GO TO SPECIALTY SHOWS AND HUNT TESTS WITH MY DOGS NOW. MY DOGS HAVE EARNED MANY TITLES IN SHOW, FIELD AND OBEDIENCE OVER THE YEARS THOUGH AND I AM VERY PROUD OF THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
I WROTE TO ANASTASIA FIRST BEFORE POSTING HERE AS I WANTED TO BE SURE THIS WAS INDEED A PUBLIC FORUM. MY REASON WAS TO ASK HER PERMISSION TO POST HERE AND OFFER MY "SERVICES" (GRATIS OF COURSE!) TO ANYONE HERE WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CARE AND TRAINING OF THEIR PETS, BUT IN PARTICULAR DOGS (& CATS). I AM NOT A VETERINARIAN, BUT I DO HAVE A LIFETIME'S EXPERIENCE IN CARING FOR ANIMALS AND I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE IT WITH YOU ALL. WHILE MANY MEDICAL PROBLEMS CAN BE ADDRESSED FROM A "FIRST AID" PERSPECTIVE, NOT ALL CAN! WHEN IN DOUBT ABOUT THE SERIOUSNESS OF YOUR PET'S HEALTH I URGE YOU TO GET TO THE VET ASAP! BUT IF YOU NEED HELP, I WILL DO MY BEST TO HELP YOU EVALUATE THE SITUATION AND MAKE SUGGESTIONS ACCORDINGLY.
THANK YOU ANASTASIA FOR WELCOMING ME TO YOUR BOARD.

srnity: a bath with bicarbonate of soda is what fixed my Bear....or numerous baths....he is allergic to a type of grass that we have (Buffalo), and keep her clipped if she is inclined to have long hair (in the summer anyways), apart from those things, dont know
My doggie is allergic to EVERYTHING this time of year, literally. I use a vinegar and water spray for her belly and paws to keep the yeast from spreading (works pretty well, but she spends alot of time in creeks, woods, etc.) & I'm looking for something that I can use for itching other than Benadryl. Something homeopathic possibly, seems like all I do is use steroid cremes on her (her ears, her eyes) - anybody know of anything that might help that isn't medicated? I'm stumped & feel like all I'm doing is drugging her.....
Dont know if anyone else with animals has this problem, but I would certainly appreciate any tips you have........
Now that the weather is getting really warm flies are a nuisance! I have my cats feeding bowls near the back door of the kitchen & if my cat doesnt eat all of her food in one go (which she most often doesnt, she likes to pick) then flies come in when I have the door or window open & lay eggs in her food bowl! Yak!!!! Im forever chucking her food out & cleaning the bowl. Is there any way of preventing this? (apart from the obvious of keeping the doors & windows shut lol)
Rose: LOL...that reminds me of something an online chatting pal once typed about her feline: "My cat thinks you are a bug." (I had to think about that for a moment, before I understood.)
