exactly my point, it shows the rating system does not work well IF somone is allowed to play higher rated players all the time.
If this ability is changed it would make the rating system for BG more reliable

Arent the dices the good or bad players in backgammon? LOL

It works fine because the stronger play wins by the proportion predicted by the ratings. The idea of ratings for backgammon is nonsense and I dont imagine anyone gives a hoot about them.

Ug..exactly...im not feeling more "shaky" when i play one with 2300 than if he has 1300 LOL

Argomento: Prize tournements
The prize tournements donated by members are one of the great features of BK.But we need rules for it. Okay,if the promised prize will not handed over, you can say it is a matter of the donor.
But the donor uses the Bk server for his promises, that`s why it is a matter also of BK!
I suggest the following: If a prize tournement is offered by the tournement creator,he has to give the prize within 10 days to Fencer, otherwise the tournement will be deleted as not seriously. With this measure can be ensured that the winner gets indeed the promised prize,if the tournement is finished perhaps 6 or 12 months later.

Argomento: Re: Prize tournaments
Of course that would only be for membership prizes. Lets say for other prizes (lets say if I wanted to give away a T-shirt, or DVD or something), that would not be something to send to Fencer ahead of time......

...... but then again, I've only seen membership prizes (and a couple cash prizes).

Argomento: Re: Prize tournements
I assumed that the membership donation was made to Fencer when the tournament was created or at least started. Silly me.

Argomento: Re: Criteria for waiting games
Just a quick defense... When I first began with making invitations for backgammon players with a higher BKR than myself (I was at close to 2100) I did so to try to find out if these higher ranked players were really that good, and to find out how I stacked up against the best. (I did this early on playing reversi also, playing the sites top reated players) My bKR went down to almost 1900, really fsat, and has since climbed back to around 1060 or so. So there has been no real advantage, since I went from about 1500 to almost 2100 playing mostly those rated around me or lower. Plus, under your theory, those higher ranked players are not really better, but just luckier or they only play other high ranking players as not to risk losing to lower ranked players who get lucky. I personally think that if I wanted to build my bkr, I would pull out the can of whoop ass on a lot of low ranked players, and it wouldnt take long to get my ranking right up there. maybe I will try out that theory :)

I will send a number of invites and lets see how many you win.
10 games enough? Or do you want an odd number so that there is a definate winner?

Argomento: Re: Criteria for waiting games
I do agree with you that it would be a nice feature to be able to see the critereor(sp) used to make the game. I actually thought that all that info was already there, but I guess not.

BTW.... there must be some way to find that info, since you were somehow able to find out :)

now I know it is probably a bit late to ask for this but.......
when a game is finished and you get the "message" bit...once you have re-invited or not can the message be deleted? It is annoying to go into messages, re-invite and STILL HAVE TO DELETE THE USELESS message that ya lost :(

Argomento: New Fellowships
I know your are busy right now Fencer, but when you have a spare moment, would it be possible to have a RED number appear beside Fellowships when someone creates a new one and Flag it somehow on the list.
Obviously the number would go once a person has gone to look what the new fellowship was and if it is worth applying to join.

Perhaps also a number next to the Big Boss's name showing how many fellowships they are Big Boss of.

Argomento: Re:
My idea was nothing to do with how many fellowship someone is Boss of sharon.
When new fellowships are created no one knows they have been unless the Boss puts it on the fellowship board or they rely on people to keep checking the fellowship list.
By just putting a number there everyone would know instantly, just like with Waiting games & Tournaments :o)

MM - Well in BK2.0 it will be a little easier since the Fellowship list will be sorted by create date - instead of now where a new fellowship could be in middle of the list and hard to find. Once BK2.0 is here, just looking at the bottom of the list will show the newest fellowships.

I think cariad's request (below) was designed to keep an eye on the build up of fellowships by an individual or group of people.

I know BBW lol, i am just trying to get people to know when a new fellowship has been created as at present unless the Boss phisically does something themselves, people would never know unless invited or check the list. For those that have been members a while, they soon get to find out things like it.
I did suggest once that when someone upgraded from a pawn & became a member that they got a message (or email) listing all the extra things that are now available to them with Links how to get there etc... :o)

Agreed bumble & cariad, we all know where your coming from.

Argomento: Re: Prize tournements
The only basic Rule of Prize Tournaments that Fencer has ever stated that i know of, is that it is totaly down to the tournament organiser to provide the prize at the end of it.
Fencer accepts no responsibility for any other prizes other than tournaments he organises himself.
So in the end, it is down to trust.

Could there be a marker next to nics, that show who are webtv users or pc users, or maybe diferent colour scheme for the nic links.

Argomento: BK 2.0 and piece types
Will shogi and xiangqi feature international piece sets or traditional pieces? Will shogi feature handicap play? Will these games be available immediately with the launch of BK 2.0?

Is there a chance of rounding out your classic games of the Orient with go (preferably with Japanese rules)?

Argomento: Game variant request
I made this request a few months back but now BK2.0 is in place I wish to make it again. There is one more battleboats variant I would like to see. I will call it Battleboats Bonus. It is played like regular battleboats but the bonus is if you make a hit on your opponent you get to keep your turn until you miss. Actually you could make this a 2 variant request. You could play it with a dark version too if you would like. I havent seen this version anywhere else so this could be exclusive to the Brainking lineup of games. I have a handheld battleship game and this game variant is on it. I like this version and I think others would like it too.

I don't think it's possible because when you are not allowed to make more shots, you know that you've missed the ship. Why not to click back and try another square?

Argomento: Re: Game variant request
Brian1971 - Go and put that request in the Battleboat Board - When I get more time, maybe we can work through it and find a way that something like that can work. (And if it is not too complex, we might be able to talk Fencer in trying it.)

Ive played it that way online before, but cant remember where, I like it :o)

Argomento: Re: Game variant request
Well if you install the auto-pass feature you could do it. If you get a hit the autopass would kick in and you would get to shoot again. If not it would be your opponents turn. Just a another reason to have the autopass feature as an option but for my game idea it would be mandatory feature built in.

BBW: I will post it in their too.

I was wondering when the auto-pass debate would start again lol.

28. Giugno 2004, 15:44:29
Brian1971
LOL. I wasnt making the request to start that debate over again. However unless there is another way around it you would have to have autopass to make my game idea work. Of course built in would be a message to your opponent on the game noting what took place so they wouldnt get confused.
