Argomento: Re: More time controls
WhiteTower: You do know that Fencer recently added a different type of time control called Fischer's clock.

You can set it up for example so each player gets a "pool" of 24 hours to make their moves in. I would add in a BONUS of 6 hours or something so people are not caught while in bed - with maybe a top "pool" limit of 36 hours or something - which of course has no vacations or weekends, and should bring along a pretty fast game.

Bry: There is a link near the top of the tournament page which says show tournaments only created by me.

Then if you want to see just certain tournament by certain people, you can change the UserID in the address bar.

For example, here shows all my running tournaments:

http://brainking.com/en/Tournaments?trnst=2&tp=0&submit=Show&u=2560

(2560 is my User number)

Argomento: Re: I'll improve the BKR formula by adding some penalties for repeated games between the same players.
Fencer: I like that idea, but I think a year is too long for the counter to reset. Maybe every 3-4 months.

Also, I would like to say that tournament games should not be added to the counter, but only non-tournament games should.

Argomento: Create new tournament
A subject from a few days ago I think.

When setting up a new tournament, how about having 3 options at the top.

  • All Games Tournament
  • One Game Tournament (include drop down list to pick 1 tournament)
  • Multi-Game Tournament [Choose all game types at bottom of page]

It works find how it is now, but does seem to mess others up.

    Argomento: Re: Sonneborn-Berger points system
eagle eye: Yes, it would be a tie with 2 winners (or more - I've seen 4 people tie before)

El Cid: Sometimes 1 players will complete all their games and win them all. At this point, it is known that they will win their section. If I remember correctly, server limitations was the main reason why something is not in place to determin a section winner early - since it would take a lot of extra processing to search each tournament and check.

    Argomento: Re: Sonneborn-Berger points system
playBunny: Actually it was the tournament board. It was this (In case Fencer is interested in adding it to the help):

First, I picked a tournament as an example: THIS TOURNAMENT

Now first, the points are figured. You get 1 point for each win. So:
  • (1)arpa - 3 wins, 3 points
  • (2)zockerdotcom - 3 wins, 3 points
  • (3)SMART ALX - 0 wins, 0 points
  • (4)Ladybird68 - 2 wins, 2 points
  • (5)Merrily Watkins - 2 wins, 2 points.

Now once all the games and points are figured, this is where the S-B is figured.

The S-B is the SUM of the points of your oppenets that you won against. So:

  • (1)arpa(3 points) - had win against player 3, 4, and 5. Player 3 had 0 points. Player 4 had 2 points. Player 5 had 2 points. So 0+2+2=4 [4 S-B]
  • (2)zockerdotcom(3 points) - wins agains 1,3,5. So 3+0+2=5 [5 S-B]
  • (3)SMART ALX(0 points) - [0 S-B]
  • (4)Ladybird68(2 points) - wins against 2,3. So 3+0=3 [3 S-B]
  • (5)Merrily Watkins(2 points) - wins against 3,4. So 0+2=2 [2 S-B]

So first the person with the most points win. In this example, both arpa & zockerdotcom have 3 points each. At this point we look at the S-B. zockerdotcom has 5 S-B, while arpa only has 4 S-B, so zockerdotcom gets the win for this tournament!

IMPORTANT NOTE: The winner of a tournament is the one with the most points. In some cases, the person with the highest S-B will not have the most points, so does not win. Only time S-B comes into play is if there is a tie in points.

    Argomento: Fellowship Tournaments
Would be nice to be able to create any game type fellowship tournament inside a fellowship without having to add a "team" to the fellowship.

Is there really a reason a fellowship needs to have a certain team before it can have a tournament for that game type?

baudrillard: What you could do is just rename your account to something like "gone123". Then send Fencer a note asking him to change your password. Then *poof* - you will no longer be able to log in.

One of the features of BK is that it keeps all the game history and such - so to remove an account completly may mess up the database and such. So in my opinion, a quick rename and a quick note to Fencer asking him to change your password so you can never log in again would probable work best.

    Hidden people can still post.

Post get a red (1 new) message for each post.

Users can not see hidden post.

So it depends on how you look at it. The (1 NEW) message is a feature so people know there are new posts. But since the new post is hidden, then some may look at it as being a bug since even though there is a new post, it can not be read.

Argomento: Re: Froglet Game Variant Suggestions
nobleheart: Well what is good about the Mini Froglet idea is that it should be pretty simple for Fencer to program - that is it is the same game, just smaller board.

To increase the board size would not help people who are burnt out on the game - I know for myself & others, we are burnt out because it takes too long to complete a game. And to see how popular a quick game like Hyper Backgammon is, a quicker version of Froglet I think would be pretty popular also.

    Argomento: Froglet Game Variant Suggestions
The suggestions have been suggested by myself & others on the Froglet board in the past, and i thought I would share them in here. Some of the "top players" are basicly "burnt out" on the game, so some variants would be a great addition.

  • Mini Froglet: - 8x8 board (32 green, 20 Yellow, 8 Red, 4 blue) - or something similar.

  • Island (or lily pad) Froglet: - Randomly inserted in 15-20 squares an island. Either make it where you can't do anything with the island, or possible make it so you can jump over the island (no points and island stays there), but it will bring many more jumps to the game.

  • Bonus Froglet: Include 10 "bonus" frogs marked with a "?". You will NOT know what bonus is under the ? until after you submit the move. Possible bonuses could be:
    # 2x frogs - if you jump one of these, your score from that turn is doubled. (or 2 points if single jump)
    # 3x frogs - same as 2x except tripled (or 3 points if single jump)
    # poison frogs - You get no score for that turn

Argomento: Re: Please, release me, let me go, tra la la la la laaa.
playBunny: Actually when there is only 1 section and 2 people tie, the game is ended with a tie.

You will only see a playoff when there are 2 or more section winners.

Also, when the next round starts and a pawn/knight is not in the new section - they are "released" right then and does not have to wait until the end.

Czuch Chuckers: Currently for tournaments, there is a green & red dot next to tournaments with special time-out features. I also suggest that if a tournament is less then 24 hours, it should be highlighed or something - I can see many accedently signing up for a 2 hour tournament when the mean to sign up for a 2 day tournament.

Luke Skywalker: I think Summertop's questions (along with mine) is lets say a game has an hour time limit. If that hour is up, and vacation day is set - does the vacation day add just 1 hour or a full 24 hour day to the game? If it's just an hour, if for some reason they have to leave quickly, they could easly go through a lot of vacation days in just a few hours.

In the pond & tournament list, is there a way that if the time limit is set for less then 1 day, it be somehow "highlighted" or shown in red or something.

    Argomento: Rain Ponds Request
I Posted these on the pond board, but figured I should post them here also so they don't get lost.

FIRST REQUEST: When playing a pond, it is easy to tell the difference between a pond and a dark pond since in dark everything is hidden.

But I notice currently the only difference in the rain is the little "name" with a green dot near the top.

Is there a way you can make it look a little more different - possible put a green outline around the running players list so it will be easier to tell something is different (Like is done with all the chess variants so you can quickly tell what you are playing by the outline color)

SECOND REQUEST: How about a rule change - when only 2 players are left, only the lowest bid player will fall, leaving the highest bid to win the game. This way there will hopefully be less ties/no winners.

So they wanted to hide themselves from the prople that use the cloak since they now wanted to be hidden (??)

So basicly, if you use the cloak feature where people can't see what you are doing - you can no longer see what they are doing either.

Summertop: I agree with that - I have a bad habit of not cleaning up my message box often, so I'm in the process of doing that now. Most messages and such I can delete right away, but for each one without a subject - forces me to open them again to see if I need to keep them or not.

    Argomento: 2 requests
First Request: It would be nice to have an option to not recieve the messages that some BIG BOSSES send to all their users. Now this option is nice since not all users read the fellowship boards much, but for someone who reads the boards, getting a 2nd notice about an event in the message box is just a lot of extra junk. (Just got done clearing out about 15 of those messages from different fellowship over the past few days.) So an option to turn it off would be nice. [and we can still read the message on the fellowship boards]

second request: Would be nice to be able to sort the message box like you can other tables. That is click on "subject" to sort all messages by subject - or by user.

(Check stats for the tournament so far: HERE - where you can see that the current 5 players have played in all the games so far.)

What you are looking at now is the current fellowship, which now has 3 players left in the team - but the current tournament will continue with who it was started with. (Not who is signed up now.)

Summertop: No, Fencer changed it awhile back so it does not act like a "vacation" day where an extra day is added to all games.

It is now a "no-timeout" day - and that will only add 24 hours to games that time out during that day. (so if you have 2 games ready to time out, one at 11:40pm, and the other at 1:05am the next day - it will take 2 so-called vacation days to make sure these do not time out.)

I believe Fencer likes the idea of only being able to use 4 or so auto-vacation days at a time, but just not put into place yet.

I think Hyper Backgammon has proved that shorter versions of games can be a pretty big hit.

I, along with others are starting to get "burnt out" of the Froglet game, and it shows on how many current games are going (Which is still very popular, a top 5 game, but falling)

Anyway, I would like to suggest a smaller verison of Froglet - maybe an 8x8 board.

    64 total spaces - (32 green, 20 Yellow, 8 Red, 4 blue) - or something similar.

Or maybe some variant with "islands" randomly inserted in games - something which will help make the games a little shorter.

If anyone has more idea, please take a look at the Froglet Board - I will be posting this idea and others so we can discuss it a bit more.
