Yes, but at least they have to go looking! We don't want to make it easy on the pawn trawlers do we?

Argomento: Re: Game types and variants
pauloaguia: Now, what I'd really like to know would be the average BKR of the player that is ranked in ALL game types.

Ah, you mean the sum of a players BKRs of all the game types, divided by the number of game types? But we already have that. The statistics pages contains a list of players with their BKR sum. Just divide that by the number of games types available.

What I find strange about the average BKR is that it's possible to win five games, and then have your average BKR drop significantly: image the first 20 games you played of a particular game type, you played very bad. So your BKR is low, much lower than your average. But since you only played 20 games, the BKR doesn't count for the average. Now you win five games. Your BKR of that game type will somewhat rise, but it's still below your average. But now it will count in the average, so it will lower your average BKR.

I guess it's somewhat interesting to have a list of average BKRs of a players best N (for some value of N) BKRs. And it would also be interesting to see more than 50 people in the current lists, to see how far you're trailing. Then again, they are just numbers.

Yep, but they don't necessarilly have played all game types. Or at least be rated in them all. I see most don't.

Anyway it wasn't that a serious wish ;)

Argomento: automatic refresh
Currently, the screen automatically refreshes when on the main page or when viewing an active game. I would like to see the automatic refresh added to the "Online opponents" page.

Bry: Well, certainly I know how to use the refresh button. But I could argue that the refresh function is not required on the main page either, because the browser refresh button could be used there. But it has been supplied for convenience, so that the user doesn't have to manually do the repetitive task of pushing the button. I merely suggest that the Online Opponents page is another place where this automatic refresh would make sense, since it seems to be a popular page among users.

Argomento: Blocked Users and Waiting games
Since someone (MJL) has way too many games in "Waiting Games", I added them to my "Blocked Users" list in hopes that they wouldn't show up in the Waiting Games. Unfortunately, they still do.

Could the Waiting Games section exclude those members that are on our Blocked Users list?

21. Marzo 2005, 23:48:54

We should each take a cluster of games with MJL, accept them, then delete the games after 1 move

Isn't that a bit unfair on him though? I mean the guy is a member and entitled to play as many games as he likes... and this is a games site!

Could "waiting games" have a filter as "tournaments" has? So if anyone wants to search for Five in line games he doesnt need to scroll all the games...(615 right now)..I know,,the games are in alpha order but i think it would be easier with a filter anyway.

I'd like a search box for Big Bosses to find members in fellowships. So if we wanted to make someone a manager we wouldn't have to scroll through lists of members looking for the right person. As more members join BK, fellowships are getting bigger.

Fencer, Thanks.

wayney, try removing him from blocked list then adding him back.

cariad, I understand where you are coming from. It would be unfair for fencer to remove the extra game invites. But, since I am not going to accept any, I don't see it unfair for me to have a way to "Not see them".

nobleheart: One of the things I like about BK is the fact that it has no limits on games (if I was a rook that is). Don't try to take it away... Especially since there are times when there are so few games available to choose from (wait till August and you'll see ;) )

The best thing I think is improving (creating?) some filter funcions on the waiting game page.
Or accepting multiple invitations in one step - people would only need to waddle through the whole list one time for a while, instead of having to come back to that page

MidnightMcMedic: How about returning to my issue? I got a comment from Bry, nobody else (including Fencer) commented on my proposal to add automatic refresh to the Online Opponents page. Are there other users out there who would find it helpful to have automatic refresh on other pages besides the games pages and the main page? Since I don't know how your code is organized, Fencer, I don't know what would be involved. Would this be a difficult change, or do you just have to add a page code to table somewhere?

Since you ask, no. In fact, I don't find it helpful for the existing pages - and I turn it off. Automatic refresh gives the impression I'm active when I'm not.

MidnightMcMedic: I don't think it would work on DB's. Just imagine someone with 100 posts per page, trying to keep up with a 3 min refresh, after returning from vacation and trying to read the 76 new posts on his/her favourite DB... It would be a nightmare :)

But I like the idea for the online opponents page... it's the page I hang around most of the time waiting for my opponents to play.

i use this page too , but i usually never have a page open just for that , on the occasions i do i just hit refresh on my browser .

another way i could see this working better is to put it at the top of the page (where the next 30 games are next to play) this way you could just hover over the right spot and see which oppenents are online without having to open another page ..
ps i never use that function to play my games but i would use it to see which opponents are online

I think its a bit silly to take his games and delete them. i have put about 100 up before, in order to gain a few more games to play, as i've had nowhere near enough as i'd of liked. And as someone said earlier he is a paying member who should be able to play as many games as he likes
