Argomento: Re:
TarantinoFan: For goodness' sake, read the FIRST SENTENCE in the rules for Dice Poker:

Dice Poker is similar to the popular game called Yahtzee.

This is NOT Yahtzee, this is a SIMILAR game... If you want to play pure Yahtzee, keep playing on paper with your family or play it outside BrainKing in any case!

Argomento: Re: PDA Version
mctrivia: I believe Fencer is working on this, starting with a facelife of the underlying interface code that will eventually mean we can have a mobile BrainKing :)

Argomento: Re: hey mr fencer
nobleheart: Actually... why has NO other site implemented Yahtzee yet??? Come on, Fencer, it's your chance to pioneer once again :)

What's this Eternal Rook membership level that francescolr was blessed with? :)

Sorry to be off-topic, but ...

KotDB: The Earth is almost spherical and its Cartesian map is equivalent to a Froglet playing area - Q.E.D. Even if it is also valid to say Torus instead of Sphere, the spherical aspect is more easily understood by lay people, i.e. non-mathematicians :)

Argomento: Re: Québec
emmett: If Quebec has its own flag (which, I believe, it does) then it's just another option for Fencer to add, exactly like England, Scotland and Wales for Great Britain - BTW why is there no Northern Ireland??? :)

BIG BAD WOLF: Then, based on Fencer's earlier reply, we can safely assume that being cloaked is considered a tradeoff for lack of related information on fellow users - if you want to have full access to that information, you gotta give full access to yours, sir.

Argomento: Re:
jolat: If there's one thing that Fencer would like us all to appreciate about his efforts, it's our patience and trust for his making sure that the website is stable and secure, while adding new games and features. Doing things the other way round wouldn't work out very efficiently.

As for IYT... who here has forgotten the mess that its creator had to go through when the system completely crashed, dumping all player data all the way to hell?...

Fencer: Then it's not pure refactoring, but more of a revamp, which includes some refactoring and some user interface redesign. Of course, if you want to keep calling it refactoring, that's OK, just let the good people at Wikipedia about your view as well ;)

grenv: In any case, and if you haven't noticed already, no non-rectangular game boards have been implemented - Alquerque and co. are the most complicated cases, which are still shaped within a rectangular structure, albeit with non-coordinated directionality.

Argomento: Re: Definitely dominoes!
mctrivia: Very simply - instead of just 2 people shooting at each other's ships, more (maybe up to 5?) people shoot at each other's ships! Each turn consists of sub-turns shooting at a specific opponent's board - whoever's ships are all sunk, gets booted until one player remains alive, and wins!

Fencer: How about adding more relevant formulae for other game types, e.g. Backgammons? We have been discussing this in the Backgammon DB for some time now, but have no feedback from you yet - is there any?

rod03801: If you wish to avoid people discussing the same things over and over again "to death", then PLEASE put a link in the board introductory text where members can see such frequently asked issues, e.g. via contextual posts like Fencer's "autopass" reference you made, or through a suggestion to search for the appropriate string, e.g. "autopass".

Argomento: Re: free game slots for tournaments
Eriisa: Search for "10 slots" in this board and you'll see Fencer saying so in late 2003. Now, that was for 8-slots-really-needed situations... I've never encountered any real situations with any other scnearios to be sure... I did follow a long discussion about the issue, though, and I was left with the impression that 10 slots are needed in all cases... I might be wrong!

Argomento: Re: free game slots for tournaments
Luke Skywalker: Until the policy is changed, the standard number of required empty slots for all tournaments, regardless of games per round, are 10.

playBunny: Did you just answer to yourself there or wha'?!? [sideways glancing with one eyebrow higher]

On the other hand, if somehow he decides to introduce game group ratings (by which, BTW, I actually meant separate rating SYSTEMS for game groups, but you can also have some averaging done foe eligible members of the game group) then some further delays may occur - but let's leave the operational aspect to Fencer, our Brain King (of the white variety)

Argomento: Re: Site connection problems
wellywales: Yes, but they don't "do" faults. What they do do is display a page notifying users of essential maintenance, like database backups etc. This is not a fault, but a regular feature, while the game server is still working fine.

What BrainKing has is another domain, BrainKing.info, for such faults and other cases, but it seems to have been forgotten for a year and a half - Fencer, any comments? :)

Argomento: Re: Politics
BIG BAD WOLF: OK, then no debates or political stuff - Jump This mentioned mostly cultural attributes in his request. Let's say a World Culture board then. Or would that be too politically related as well?

Argomento: Title element for username in game list
Could the current action of all online opponents be added as a title element, for checking by hovering the mouse pointer over their username in the game list? Or do we always have to click on Online Opponents to see that?

tinksbell: It's not the money in my case. I simply cannot afford the time needed for the amount of extra games and features at my disposal as a paid member. For me, let's leave it at that. I might reconsider once Greek Backgammon is fully introduced :)

Fencer: I beg to differ. Here, in the FAQs, is the only place the word delete appears in the game deletion context, and there is no mention of paid-members-only availability. If it's supposed to be in Help, maybe it's in the missing contect to be added later?
