lol I know you know, I was just trying to get more info about the error message. It will almost always give you an error code or number with the message and you can take and put that in the microsoft knowledge base.

I would maybe try to change your jumper settings. Set the cd drive on the end of the cable to master the other the slave. Also the HDD's set your old HDD to master and make sure it's on the end of the cable and the new drive to slave and put it in the middle of the cable.

if they are both on CS, then the one on the end of the cable will be the master.

one should be slave, one master

One problem I ran into when I added my 2nd HDD is that my motherboard wouldn't see it on the IDE1 cable. So my system is set up like this:

IDE1---MB--DVD/RW(slave)---1stHDD(mater)
IDE2---2nd HDD(slave)------CD/RW(master)

(jumper settings)

do you have the 2nd HDD on IDE1 or IDE2?

so the device manger now doesn't see the cd-rom at all??? And it's still spinning up?

that wouldn't cause it. I belive it's either a script running or a physical problem with the drive. shut all the way down, unplug your PC, hold the power button for 5 seconds, take the side of the case off, un-plug and replug the IDE cable for your cd-rom drive at the drive and the motherboard, put everything back togetherm adn restart. Then let me know if it's still happening. Also, is it possible that something is stuck in the drive?

hummm, I'll have to get back to you, it's been years since I've used win98. try going to run and run this program "msconfig". Then click on the services tab (far right) and see if there's anything in there that you don't know.

it's possible that the data wire to the cd-rom has came loose. All certain spywear programs and v/b scripts will try to access your cd-rom. (i.e. have you ran adawear latley?). Let me know what happens after you restart.

Ok just kinda to brag!!

I upgraded to the bellsouth DSL xtreme service yesterday. I was on the ultra plan. for only $5 more a month, they doubled my line speeds and gave me a static IP. I now have 3.0Mb/sec down and 356Kb/sec up. For anyone who lives in the southeast US and has BS DSL, upgrade to this, it's worth every penny!!!

Yep she's on a XP box. If it's a DNS problem, then it will fix itself (like it did in her case) after a period of time. WebTV on the other hand uses proxy servers and all kinds of other trash in between the box and the internet so there's no freak'n telling where the problem is.

I belive it to be a DNS problem. I worked on Eriisa's computer for over a half hour last night using remote access and I tried every trick I know and still could access the site with it. I could ping just fine and trace route fine. Still nothing. This morning when she got up, she could access it. To me that smells like a DNS problem with her ISP. As far as I know, her ISP isn't using a proxy server so I don't belive that to be her problem.

I'm a little late on this, but I have just about every tracking, tracing, ping, snifing, cracking, and hacking tool you can find at home, but does me no good at work. NT4.0 box behind the firewall from hell, can only go to about 30 different sites (thank god BK is one of them) and our internet access point is 1500 miles away, they keep a tight watch one us lol.

most small sites will never see 1GB/month of transfer unless they are streaming video or som other bandwidth heavy apps. I run a game server and website on my end so I end up using 200-300MB/day of transfer. 125MB of that is just the gaming stuff that runs 24/7. My ISP just loves me lol.

The problem may lay with your ISP. The web-tv, msn-tv type boxes use a type of proxy server that is, to put it nice, different. Try to access the site by IP address. I can't run my trace tools to get the IP right now because I'm at work, but maybe Fencer can give the IP now. If that doesn't work. Contact your ISP and get tech support to try to clear the proxy for you.
