Actually, doing a complete reformating of your puter is preferred.. it is very simple to do for XP. You take the disk. Insert it in the puter. shut off puter.. and restart. it asks two questions similar to are you sure you want to? YES. It will delete everything on the HD.. Yes.
Definately make sure you back up the files you want on your puter that you need. Such as pictures and recipes and anything you created on your word programs. You can always redownload Spybot. And for free virus software AVG Like any other virus software though, you can't have anyother virus software installed.
Argomento: Re: I did mention this below but........
TigerCat: Are you able to open IE up at all? If so, open it.. then click on "TOOLS", when the drop down menu appears click "INTERNET OPTIONS" another box comes up. There are tabs along the top. Click on the "PROGRAMS" tab. About 2/3 rds down is a section "DEFAULT WEB BROWSER" if the button to the right of it says "MAKE DEFAULT" and is bold, click on it. Then select "APPLY" then "OK". Hopefully that will fix it.
What you are doing there is allowing IE to be your default browser. Since you are using two browsers like I do. One has to be default, and since you run several other things with your IE browser it needs to stay as your default browser.
Walter Montego: Let's just say the two proggies don't like each other.. I prefer Yahoo so I don't have Aim downloaded.. but, when I did years ago.. whoa.. my puter acted up all the time.. I suggest pick one or the other..
BerniceC: are you able to c & p the link to another opened browser?? It appears that Fencer started a new feature for the site and has allowed that feature to be accessed by the right click..
Groucho: oh I was meaning just to restore back to an earlier day.. like when her 2 year old played on the puter she could system restore it to perhaps the day before that happened..
actually I tried not too long ago to do that.. I might just try it again.. and.. I remember you giving me infor earlier.. sorry I seemed a bit dense.. been exhausted.. will mess with it a bit later..
playBunny: So how does one take for instance a movie she made in class.. and put it somewhere to let others see it? It is a large file.. let me find it and get the spec's

Marfitalu: yeah.. and I can't think of exactly what it says right off hand.. I can post something the next time it does that.. I have an emachine.. I know an icky thing.. but, it gets me through college.. it is a win XP with 4 gigs..
My puter keeps shutting off by itself.. for the last two days it just shuts down.. and comes back on.. I also notice the time keeps jumping back 6 hours.. this happens about 2 or 3 times a week for the last 2 months now..
any thoughts or ideas.. I can't lose my puter.. I have 4 online classes.. argghh!!
MagicDragon: Great!! I know I have made that mistake before.. not to hard with mine to get it in the wrong spot.. due to my desk and being limited to almost feel my way to the hookups! LOL...
MagicDragon: Is this a new puter? or did you send yours in to the shop?
do some checking to make sure the speakers are all connected properly.. in the right socket..
Then.. if that isn't it.. you may want to..
Go to Control Panel/System Properties/System/Hardware/Device Manager if you notice a yellow ? next to anything then something isn't working correctly.. you would then just click on what it is and go into their properties.. where it tells you how to fix it..
Luke Skywalker: it's a wanna be puter.. that still allows those who enjoy television to watch tv... hehe
Actually.. it is a unit that hooks up to your television.. and allows you to search the web to some extent.. the web sites have to be webtv friendly.. so they are limited..
as far as the java and applet material on the net.. well the webtv isn't able to download anything so unless it is already installed in the system.. it won't be able to run them..
