Jim Dandy: well, you should get todays game with Boomer on the hill (or over the hill?) for the Sox. I for one am a Sox fan that is mad that he played his little I wanna leave and then didn't. I'm excited about this years Sox, although I'd say that the Yanks will still win the east by a very slim margin. Those come from behind wins like the one in their home opener just totally annoys me! Still early though, very early.

Pedro Martinez: The attendance was 40,012 for the game against the Texas Rangers 4-11-6 at Anaheim Stadium. A fairly large crowd for a Tuesday night game in early April. Tomorrow is the last game of the homestand. Vladimir Guerrero did get a hit, in fact he got four hits! He now has 38 games in a row with at least one hit against Texas.

I had fun at the ball park tonight. The Angels scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the game! In the eighth inning I thought the Angels would pull ahead, but the Rangers' right fielder made an amazing catch and was able to double Guerrero off first base when he'd already made it to second base. Oops! The starting pitcher was Jeff Weaver. He's new to the Angels as he was acquired in the off season and this was the first time I'd seen him pitch. Us fans thought the coach let him pitch one inning too many. He was removed after the first two men reached base in the seventh inning. His relief got the next three guys out to end the inning, but not before they were able to score a run. Sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, and then a deep fly for a sacrifice fly scored the runner from third to make it 4 to 1 Rangers at the time. The Angels did score two in the bottom of the seventh to make it a one run ball game at 4 to 3, but the one run the Rangers scored in the top half of the inning was looming big when the eighth inning was over. After the Rangers held on in the eighth inning with the great defensive play, us home team fans were getting worried. Especially with the bottom of the line up coming to the plate in the ninth inning. The Angels got the first two guys on base to start the ninth and the Rangers made yet another pitching change. Our manager had the batter bunt, but he hit a soft liner to the pitcher and didn't advance anybody. In fact they were lucky to get back to their bases with how the ball was hit. Then the number nine batter comes up (Adam Kennedy) and he pulls a shot down the right field line into the corner and both runners score to end the game. Happy, happy! :)
Season record 5 and 3. Tied for first place with the Oakland A's in the American League Western Division. Just another 154 games to go. :)

Czuch Chuckers: We just want to compete this year. Its been far too long since we were a threat.I can't believe old David Wells is still crankin it up,we double dated two sisters when he was a rookie in Toronto.

Season record 4 and 3. One game behind Oakland at 5 and 2.
It seems like the Angels own the Texas Rangers. They were 15 and 4 against them last year. Vlad Guerraro got two hits in yesterday's game against them. He now has 37 games in a row against Texas with at least one hit. Lackey pitched a decent game except for the 2 run home run in the first inning, which was all the scoring Texas got. A lot of good players have left Texas, but the they still have Teixeira. Knowing the Yankees, he'll be playing for them in a few years. I didn't see Soriano playing second for them as there was a rookie doing it. A guy in the stands next to me said he'd been traded as he made too many errors even though he was a good hitter.

Jim Dandy: The Jays always play us tough, i think they beat us 11 to 7 last year? They have a better team this year as well. They play us opening day at fenway, and they have a good chance to take this series!

Walter Montego: Id say the Sox are looking about as good as ever right now! This is going to be a fun season, and hopefully we will soon stop wondering about what the Yankees are doing and just be happy watching them in the rear view mirror!
On a side note.... the last time the Yankees started a season 1 and 4 (1998) they ended up winning 114 games and the world series!

Angels took two of three in this series. That's pretty good against the best team money can buy. The Angels are about the only team that has a winning record against the Yankees since 1995. The Yankees are heading home for their season opener and the Texas Rangers are coming to Anaheim for a three game series starting tomorrow. Bartolo Colon looked real bad pitching today. He didn't even make it three innings when he was removed. The Yankees sure have one good team. What a line up! Their line up would have a good chance against the All Star Team. I'd be surprised if they don't win the East. How are the Red Sox looking this year Czuch? I won't see them until August when they come for a three game series. Johny Damon doesn't look right playing for the Yankees. No more longhair or beard. I wonder if I'd cut my hair if they offered me those millions of dollars?
Czuch Chuckers: so if Cuba forfeited their right to the money... who kept the money?? I thought the money was going to go to Cuba and then they would "re-direct" it to Katrina relief. By the way, was the Katrina-aid intended for Katrina-aid in all the countries that it hit or just in Cuba or just in the US? (with all the hurricanes last year, I don't recall where Katrina actually went through).
Did you guys hear about how the US wouldn't let Cuba play in the world baseball classic unless they were to forfeit any prize money they would earn..... so Cuba decided to try to donate any money they won for Katrina relief, but they couldn't because they had forfeited their right to any money in the first place! Politics, ain't it grand!
I would like to say my thank you to Czuch Chuckers, who was a co-moderator of this board for some time and was arbitrarily removed by the Global Moderators for nothing that happened on this board. Thanks for having been a good moderator of World of Sports, Chuck.
Floyd Krieger: I suggest you keep in mind the purpose of this board, and try to keep your comments on topic....
Note: Some friendly banter is permitted, just keep it friendly. I know you are new here, and are only playing a couple of games, I hope your intent on this site is not to cause trouble, as you will not last long in that attempt :)
Andre Faria: Ooops, my bad: i had not updated my list! Glad that you joined the tourney also!
Nothingness : Living in Germany, I don't really get to "watch" almost any of the U.S. sports I used to watch. espn.go.com is my only ally left and have been mostly following the WBC and Spring Training stories!
Pedro Martínez: i contacted Doris so she would sign up for only one game in the World Cup format tourney! I'm surprised that André has not signed up for Hyper or Backgammon: El Cid already took the portuguese slot in BB+!
Andre Faria: You must excuse Chuck's spelling André, he's only American after all (just teasing you, Chuck )...he wanted to write Andre's but somehow the apostrophe got lost...:)
I'm just mad that Guatemala didn't make it to the World Cup, so I can't join! :P
Portugal is however one of the favorites coming in: by reaching the finals in the Euro... they showed that they could overcome that Ibero-curse that has been so far on Spain and also, sort-of, on the TUGAS! :)
i thought I could announce this tourney here, for I am sure that most of the people in this board are already awaiting the month of June for the World Cup! Brazil winning again? Will The Netherlands finally win the big one? :)
and a tourney here in Brainking in Backgammon, Hyper Backgammon and Battleboats + for players from the 32 countries that are taking part in the World Cup 2006 in Germany!
The tournament will start in a week, so be sure to be the first of your country to sign up and represent your country! :-)
I would put the links here, but it would be 8 links (8 groups) so if you are interested, look for it in the main tournament page!
Pedro Martínez: Tukka Rask of Finland won the MVP in the recent world Junior Hockey tourney. It is not uncommon for a player off a losing team to win the award.
Pedro Martínez: I havent seen so many games so i have no opinion but of course is Lidström a very valuable player. I guess they had made him the MVP if Finland had won the gold :)
