maybe I didn't explain it very good, the bonus points only go to one player per round, the x, x-3,x-6 is the scoring at the end but you wou would then add their bonus, and the edge for being in first - third is that there is a much less drop than say 10th place which might be something like x-100
I think that people are fine betting anyway they like, that is the rules of the game.
What I'd like to see is a ratings system that is similar to the rating system that nascar has, 5 bonus points for leading a round, 1 st place x points second place x-3 points third place x-6 points, 4th place x-10 points, 5th place x-15 points and so on
ClayNashvilleTn: let them play that way, they are simply pawns to be used in the later rounds, and actually boost your ratings. You will find that the top winners never go for the bonus in the early rounds and for the most part have the highest ratings
take away the top 2 who are not established and look at the next 4 names, pretty accurate as far as top players, you will find our ratings fluxuate as we go for winsbut overall usually near the top, or in this case all four have been rated number one, as a matter of fact if you took the total time these four players have been rated number one compared to all others on the list, you would find that they have been number one about 95% of the time
actually it's using a different criteria, and if you took out everyone that isn't established, you would have the top players at the top. by the way basplund is #2 on the provisional rating list, but you are missing a name
thoughts on the recent discussion
1. Pedro does not get his bids from Mr.Trice! for sure
2. Mr. Trice did claim to be able to win any pond.
3. Mr Trice also left himself an out stating that the only reason that he wouldn't win is if people "collaberated" against him.
4. Mr. Trices deffinition of collaberation, " anytime he doesn't win".
5. I have at times, successfully, used 5 different formulas.
6. no formula will be fullproof because, a. the dynamics of the game always change. b. most people don't use formulas but strategies and therefore bids are random.
7. Playing to win vs. playing for ratings, you might as well play for ratings because there are a few players here that put togather 3 or 4 wins and knock everyones butt down. and those are the players that always end up on top
right below the winners link click on (remove from favorite boards) and then do not play it anymore.
But I'd suggest playing again and pay close attention to the bids of a couple of higher rated players, you could double their last bid each turn and stay in the game for quite some time and learn a lot
Pedro Martínez: actually, I don't think that it will drop that much, you are finishing high enough in enough ponds that your scores should rebound quickly, unless those ponds all finish at the same time
BIG BAD WOLF: I don't think that is a good idea since we can see what everybodies bid already, and I don't beleive in mulligans even though I would probably benifit
I don't like being at the top of the board until there are only about 5-6 people left, I much prefer being somewhere in the middle until then.
and the bidding has been changing since befor the introductions of ratings, thats the dynamics of this game that you constently have to re-think your moves
BIG BAD WOLF: there's something wrong with the points left history, I had one game that showed that I had 1 point last round, received the bonus and ended up with over 800 points
150 finished games
1st 28,2nd 17, 3rd 20, 4th 16, 5th 13
total top 5 finishes 94, 63%
special note last 50 games placing 10th or worse 2, first 100 games finishing 10th or worse 38
you said it yourself, haven't won any, in fact the three people that have been going for the bonus in that game have won a grand total of 1 game between them
when someone bids 1000 or more in the first 3 rounds to get the bonus, they don't gain to much, but if it makes anyone feel beter, please, go ahead, I sure won't complain
play it just the way you have for 2 more rounds and then worry about the bonus,It's going to be tough to win since you need to make up 1000 points, unless Rose beats herself
ScarletRose:I think that this particular group knows each others tactics pretty well, heck, BBW tells us his strategy all the time, but this is the first time that all 4 have been in this position without any another players. I will tell you what I will bid, NOT!
