I add my voice to the "agree" crowd, for a different reason: because everyone creates "all game" tourneys, there are far too many. Either people set the minimum number of participants too high, and they never start for lack of participants, or they set it low and we have a zillion "tourneys" with 4 participants, which is not much fun.
One may hope that "official" tournaments, if not run too often, may solve this problem.
Tulip: This is Fencer's April fools joke. you're awarded 1 action point on every click on "remove" which won't work. A secret generator is activated: if you succeed in removing the message (will happen if you can click faster than 2 times per second for more than a minute) you'll be awarded an extra 100 action points!
Fencer: That's why I have as a bookmark GameList, not BrainKing. What do I need the login page for, if I can just as well log in from the guestmode GameList page?
At home I do what I want, I leave a tab permanently on BK. at work (OK, OK, I know) I just take a peek from time to time, then kill the tab. so a bookmark is useful.
Fencer: I don't think so. when, for example, while reading this forum, I click on http://brainking.com , it takes me to the login page, not the GameList page.
Fencer: I have the GameList page as bookmark, because the Brainking page asks every time for the password (even if it's only one click with password memorized), even if the browser stays open. The GameList bookmark does not.
Fencer: you're right. It's not the login page. my bookmark points to the GameList page, and since I'm not yet logged in to the session, I'm in guest mode, with the login prompt on top. It's there where I have a banner, and sometimes the pest.
This ad takes over the whole browser so I can't log in, maximises the browser to more than the screen size (a nice gimmick) and adds a popup that firefox doesn't catch and that comes back when you first kill it. All in all, not the best publicity for brainking!
We all know that Brainking is not a charity operation, it has to make a living. So we get banners and other stuff, et least as long as we don't log in as rooks. Fine by me. but every once in a while I get as on my login page A major pain in the neck called DriveCleaner which invites me to install some stupid thing on my computer or else. Fencer, can you PLEASE get rid of at least this sponsor? This is just one step short of directly installing a voluntary virus on your machine. See, for example, This link.
Does this also mean that if I'm one of the early 10 and purchase a black rook membership I get a second life for free? this is starting to sound Mefistophelian. Where do I send my blood signature?
Fencer: are you kidding? some of my opponents manage to use a time warp already. That's the only explanation I find as to why they never time out. And you haven't even programmed it!
If you want something really exotic, you could implement those games on a torus, a Moebius strip or a Klein bottle. A lot of fun for Fencer, first to program it (perhaps not too difficult), then to explain the rules (next to impossible)
pauloaguia: hey, wait a minute. This sounds like an excellent deal. It means that I have to pay just 24€ for a year's worth of membership and in return I can do nothing at all, never make a move in the whole year! no need even to log on!
Euh... come to think of it... can't I do the same without sending the 24€ ?
LionsLair: Just to modify a bit the "useless" (not really useless) info, this is August, and the number of players preferring to grill a bit in the sunshine instead of hacking at a keyboard may not be negligible.
Hrqls: pssst.... it's easy. go to Fencers profile, make his pic appear, then control shift click on the lower left corner of the image while whistling the czech national anthem. Try it, you'll see!
Chaosu: actually spamming Fencer may be a good idea. It may prompt him to action - an anti-spam module for the Message box and some of the DBs would be a real plus for the site ( at Fencer)
alanback: further question: if I resign, I lose how many points? say the cube is still on 1, but I don't have any stones out yet. If I resign do I lose a gammon? I hope so, otherwise it's too easy to avoid a gammon.
Fencer: I agree, but we have already played for 5 days, we have used up time, no? or does the counter reset itself each time an increment is added, until it reaches the max value?
I may be a bit dim, but could someone please explain again the functionning of the Fischer clock?
Example: I have a game that started 5 days ago, with setting "Time: 7 days, Bonus: 1 day, Limit: 15 days, no days off". We are now at move 17, which means that the "time left" climbed slowly up to the 15 day limit, and that's where it is now, 5 days into the game: both players have 15 days "time left".
But is that the way it was supposed to be? if the max "time left" is 15, shouldn't it read now 15days minus the time we have been using so far?
