aaru: I guess you and I are the only one that care about tournaments and how it is structured. It is becoming disappointing to see no one else cares that you can't find more than a few good tourneys to play... Does anyone else care? There are a couple of significant things wrong with the tournament board:
* The time over the deadline is too long; 29 days is unacceptable and people abuse it to keep their tourneys 'on top of the list' for as long as possible. * People who can have 118 open tourneys (like one member right now) means there is no limit and it is being abused to inundate the board with their own monotonous tourneys.
To ensure a unique mix in the tourney board without overloading the board with these monotonous tourneys; I feel we can correct these two issues above and it should mitigate the current situation to have a unique mix which should satisfy more users without putting any of the tourney creating members out on a limb. I hope this can be looked at and addressed.
rednaz23: wrong my good friend .. i care a lot and if was possible i would have done my tourney in double elimination style .. i wanted different format too of tournament and you have no clue whats going on with my tourneis ( mega tourney ) . i invited pawns wich they are not playing any games but they cannot join tournaments because of players like that got them stuck forever . .. is because of those pple that lots of players cannot play any more tourneis .. i asked Fencer and he will do something special just for that tourney ... just to let you kinow i sended more than 1000 invitations ... even tough i nam one of the most active players i never create tournaments ( i did just for record of moves ) and just now to give chance to have more players playing but is not easy .. also you pointed just the tournament but if you see page of ponds then ... i guess fencer should give "unlimited " power only to black rooks and limited the numbers of tourney for the rest .. and also i saw tons of fellowships with no players or non active players ... but Phil remember that Fencer is only 1 person and he cannot do everything .... so i am sure given time he will do more things
rednaz23: Those 2 things are exactly what I suggested on March 22nd on this board (6 days ago). So there are more that would like to see that part of the site improved - we just have to hope that Fencer see's it as something that would help things also. (which would hopefully lead to more quality tournaments then a ton of less-quality tournaments)
Artful Dodger: Well, it doesn't seem to be a requirement that you sign up for each game. But yeah, to have a chance, I imagine you would have to sign up for quite a few. The ones that you think you have the most chance of winning, I imagine.
Artful Dodger: the prize is awarded to who ever wins the most parts of the 128 games you dont have to sign for all but the more you sign for the better your chance of winning
i wanted to do something different getting a lil boring just having one game prize tournaments
Snoopy: Just so things are clear, is it who wins the most games - or who wins the most game types.
For example - in a popular game like Backgammon, you might win 30 games and still lose that section to someone else.
In less popular games, there might be fewer players, so winning 10 games wins that section.
So it might end up that someone wins 100 games that are in the tournament, but never win a section - and someone else might win 5 different game sections, but only win 80 games total in the tournament.
*** I'm not trying to be a pain - just better to think of these things now rather then later. ***
IF I INVITE YOU AND TOURNEY WAS FULL PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE
MAYBE I WILL CREATE AN EXTRA TOURNEY AND HAVE SO 80 PLAYERS QUALIFY FOR SECOND ROUND THEN SPLIT THEM IN 10 GROUPS OF 8 PLAYERS AND WINNERS WILL PLAY FINAL ROUND
"GERRY":do not let pawn join your prize tourney... you wasting their time and their chances to win something by playing other tourneis .. your tourney is made that who has most wins wins the prize but pawns can sign ONLY for 1 tourney so is unfair because they can't never ever win .. so if you do tourney with prizes as brain do not let pawns join unless you change format .. at least 20 pawns are stucked in your brain tourney with 0 % chance to win something ...
Lotus Flower: you have 7 days to make your move and then whoever your playing also has 7 days then when you get the game back you will have another 7 days etc etc
However, with clocks such as these and the Fischer clocks, they continue to run when the server goes down. So, if you don't get a chance to move due to the site be down - you lose your game!
Lotus Flower: No Days Off - Basically means no vacation days or weekend days will be used.
Clandestine 1: Not all the time - if the server goes down for more then 1 hour (I think it is 1 hour), then when it comes back up the site will turn off the time out process for 24 hours to make sure everyone can get back on to make their move.
This is true for tournaments that allow for vacation, but trust me on this one, I just lost a game in the finals that I was going to clearly win due to my Fischer clock continuing to count down when the time-out process was turned off. By the time I was able to move, my clock was in the negatives.
Clandestine 1: I was thinking yes, the clock would continue to count down (even in the negative), but the time out job should have been turned off for 24 hours, meaning even if it was in the negative, you should have been able to make a move before the time-out process was turned back on.
.... At least that is how I would think it would work.
