Do you miss something on BrainKing.com and would you like to see it here? Post your request into this board! If there is a more specific board for the request, (i.e. game rule changes etc) then it should be posted and discussed on that specific board.
Maybe a rethink is needed as to who should be moderating the boards,
there are a couple of public board moderators that are away for days at a time, thus meaning fencer has to waste time browsing said boards to do the moderating instead
Steve...i just watched who-is-on line. Fencer is here playing games and when he doesnt play games he is watching who-is-on-line. So ..Harleys excuse that he is so darn busy is just BS!..he has plenty of time to answer a question...if he wants, but as Harley said "He cant (meaning "doesnt want") please everyone.
Some peoples money are worth more than others.
If Fencer took time to reply to every request or post, he would have time to do nothing else. (And he also likes to try to enjoy the site he build by playing games and chatting at time also.)
I think someone said below it would have been nice even with a quick yes or no. Well with just about anything he post, someone will not be happy. Heck, he tried to simply say there was not going to be auto-passing, and see how much more we posted and complained about that! :-)
BBW..As far as i can see so was my question the only question to Fencer today. And to type "Ok Andersp ill look at it" or "No its not possible" had taken him about 15 seconds..probably less.
No Sir..its all about WHO is asking...yes i know..he usually answers your questions too :)
Actually if you scroll down, I wrote a VERY long post about the "BK Stairs" which never got a reply from him. I had to bring that subject back up to him elsewhere to get a response from him - so don't think he is just ignoring you or others.... he ignores us all at times! <grin>
Andersp...so you're saying he's not allowed to actually program for the site? All he can do is listen and reply to every user's comments / questions, and say "Yes, I can do that" or "No, i'm not going to do that" and never actually do anything because he doesn't actually have any time left to do any of these things he's commented about?
Andersp: Yes, it's possible to add such option later.
And to your second question - everybody who says I don't have time to answer to all questions immediately is right. You are not the only one who asks me about something, this is not the only place where questions are posted and BK is not the only job I am doing. Especially when I have to do my full-time job at the moment.
Kevin..sorry if you dont understand my english, where did i say that Fencer isnt allowed to program? I said it takes 15 seconds to answer one
question...and
Ughaibu..I never expected a long detailed answer..just a "ill look at it" or (as he did now)
"Yes its possible".
I'd like to have a little history of the games when I check the rules out. Where it's been played, who invented it or how it evolved. With links for more information. You know, anything that might be of interest in playing or learning about a game and its developement.
What made me think of this is when I checked out Janus Chess just now. The game is almost the same game as Gothic Chess. The starting position is slightly different and two Januses instead of the one Arch-Bishop (Same as a Janus I think) plus the Chancellor. I read somewhere, perhaps on the Chess variants site, that Copablanca made up a version of Chess that the Gothic Chess inventor modified to make Gothic Chess. Now I'm curious about these variants that are very simular to each other and how they've developed. The original reason that I even came across IYT and then this site was because of a variant called Ultima. Neither site has it yet, but I've since learned a couple of the variants that they do have. I learned the game Ultima from a book called Abbott's New Card Games! That's right, card games. He put it in at the end of the book. It's not a card game, doesn't have cards in it at all. Played on a chessboard with different pieces, except the King.
Hey, how's 'bout adding Ultima? And Ultichess, which is Ultimamen versus Chessmen.
I suppose the ultimate variation of chess would be to allow the players to choose which pieces to use in the game, how they're set up, the size of the board, and the object of the play.
Ok i have added to the practice room fellowship for the faster moving players .

If you have many games to play, and you want to start with your opponents who are currently online, couldn't there be a link on your "friends online" page for any games where it is your turn?
Easier than going to the page, and making a list and then finding the games on your main page.
Maybe there is already an easier way to accomplish this, that I am not aware of?
...or maybe even have a link on the game page that says 'move and go to friends online'
or somehow mark your 'list of next games to be played' so that we know which opponents are online?
In message box, when going to send message to friend, the drop box of friends does not put them in alphabetical order, where as all other drop boxs do. Can this be sorted, cos makes it hard to find the friend to send to when I have soooo many of them :oD
Sorry Bernice.... I had usecd that nik temporarily last Friday, as a kind of celebration for BK 2.0, and I did change it as soon as I was able to get on after all the problems. Although that decision was not based on any of those problems, just nobody knew who I was. Good thing I am not in an obstinent mood today, or I would change it back :)~
It's fun that I can read my own messages even on boards on which I'm barred, it would be cool fun if I could read the messages of any and all members who were barred.
You're not barred from posting, ughaibu (if you mean BK.com!) - I hid your posts from other users. Its not the same thing, if you were banned you wouldn't be able to post at all.
Its late here, so in the morning I'll remove offending posts and 'un-hide' your others.
thanks.....I had an idea it was you but not haveing any PM's or games with you I didnt know :)
I used an unfortunate word below and Niki picked me up on it :( but only time will tell and this board should really be non-existant at the moment...wait until they get BK2 right before asking for feature requests...because i guess they would not occur until BK3???
On BK2.0, there will be a column that will show how much time is left to sign up (and it is sorted by that time). Tournaments will also start at that time automaticly (witout the creator having to worry about it anymore)
You will also be able to filter the tournament listing by game type I believe.
I think it would be fair if we could see what criteria the game creator has set for waiting games.
A good example would be currectly IMupChucKing and zockerdotcom have got heaps of backgammon games visible in the waiting room to those who are a higher rank than them (ie if they lose, their rating goes down very little but if they win their rating goes UP a lot more. RISK LITTLE GAIN MUCH)
I remember a time on yahoo where we only used to play those who had a greater than 40% down games for instance. That is, they play at least 40% of their games against lower ratings.
Currently on this site there is no way to tell that and hence players such as those mentioned above can simply play as many UP games as they want and of course their BKR will skyrocket.
Lets get it fair and show the up-down stats.
I am in no way at all suggesting IMupChucKing and zockerdotcom are doing anything wrong. ON the contrary, they are being very smart in the way they are trying to achieve a higher rating.
Are you suggesting it's just as easy to beat higher rated players? If so the whole system would be in jeopardy. The point is that in the long run the rating should be accurate no matter who you play.
lly missed the point.
It doesnt matter if you lose to higher players, your rating doesnt drop much because they are higher.
Re read my message and you will understand the meaning
That wasnt the point steve.
I am referring to if I DID match the criteria.
for example,
If I had a backgammon rating of 2700 and I was ranked #1 and the #2 had a rating of 2400. If someone then put a game in the waiting roon and was sneaky and set if for +2600 rating for example, then it would be only me that would see the game waiting. However, I wouldn't know that it is only me that could see the game, and would not know that it was set up to only be available to anyone over 2600. If I knew this, and also if it had an extra stat there saying for example
*played 100
*against lower rank 1
*against higher rank 99
this would then allow me to judge whether or not it is fair to give this person a chance at extra bkr.
I guess this is the weakness of applying this system to backgammon where a dice roll can beat a good player. In a game with no dice this strastegy is doomed to failure as the low rated player would never beat a 2700 rated player. So take the bg ratings with a grain of salt.
