playBunny: You can't check time outs with each move. You want the time out to happen approximately when it happens (and 10 minutes after is close enough when you have a few days per move). But if you check the time out when someone moves, games that are being played by people never returning to the site would never time out.

AbigailII: Please do not assume that all jobs require that you work all the time - mine doesn't. Secondly, for security purposes, most firewalls block any and all non-HTTP-related connections, regardless where they are initiated, therefore that point is moot as well.

AbigailII: I think multi player games & many 2 player games that by their nature have many moves could/should be encouraging to move along a little faster by:
1-eliminating the possiblity of a game time of more than 10 days.
2-eliminating the possiblity of a game bonus time to longer than 10 hours per move.
3-allowing really fast games but the time out penalty could be loss of turn instead of loss of game(optional)

maybe this could help
you could specify in your preferences a range re how fast you like to play.
if some one invites you,the could get an automatic message saying "whatsisname likes to play with a gamretime of from X to Y.would you like to alter your invite?"

22. 7月 2005, 20:51:48

I dont beleive in being anxious about playing fast.
after all ,we are here for fun & recreation.
but I also see no reason for games to last longer than a hollywood marriage.

Pedro Martínez: what would be the point of waiting for unesseccary messages to be answered.the player could answer it once in his profile.auto messages could cover the rest.
example:
I play scrabble elsewhere.were you specify what dictionary you prefer,in your profile.
if an invitation is sent,it will prompt you with"this player prefers the sowpods dictionary, would you like to sent you invite anyway or auto alter it?"

Since I have recently noticed that there's teh limit of 65535 charecters on sending messages, I suggest that a counter be added to the site so that when we type, or copy-paste from other places, we can understand how much space we have left. I just lost almost half of one of my messages because I wasn't aware of the limit.

reza: Hell of a loss too :-( unless it was a cut and paste job from other sources.

Advice for after the horse has bolted:
I've got into a habit of composing long messages in Notepad or some other editor and only copying them to the BrainKing page when I'm done. This is mainly because the message box size is too small, sometimes it's because I might work on a message in two separate stages. But it also means that I tend not to lose any messages.

Safe Havens backgammon tourney No. 2...
Round 2 had 3 players... 2 players tied with 3 points a piece...
I believe that the should go to round 3 and have the best of 3 games as the tourney shows... but it ends here...
I think tourneys should have just one winner...
than more than 2 in the case of a tourney in which a 4 way first place...

If your posts are going to be that large.. wouldn't a link to a web site be more respectful.. and if they are from your written words.. then perhaps creating a website to link to would be fashionable..

I agree ScarletRose
if it is data froma webpage,a link is sufficient.that way it is optional for anyone to view it or not.
I would feel a little embarassed posted a huge message.

you all know that you can ever pinpoint a paragraph on a webpage-in a link, right?

I believe it is his own posted words - in a discussion in the Debate Club - Religion fellowship board. If I remember correctly, reza has to pay for each minute he is online so I would guess he types most of his post off-line, then pastes it when he is on-line.

My suggestion would be if you know your post is going to be large, just make 2-3 smaller post that way you will not run into that situation again.

there are many ways to work offline if you are creating a .txt OR .doc OR .html file.
then you can upload or cut/paste them when you are online.

BIG BAD WOLF: If someone like Reza pays for each minute online, wouldn't be a good suggestion to have the option "Display the position in the email inviting to perform the move"? So he may think his next move before connecting to BK.

It would be interesting to see a graph showing the distribution curve of all players' ratings for a given game. The player's own position could be shown. Perhaps, too, anyone in their Friends List.

件名: Re: Ratings graph
i think playbunny means a graph of the distribution of bkrs over all players with a rating on a specific game type

like the backgammon rating in a graph

that way you can easily see how far ahead the top players are from the rest of the group (bkr-wise)

so it would just be a visualisation of the rating list of each game type

件名: Politics vs. General Chat
Too often the General Chat board is inundated with politics. Quite often political discussions turn into heated arguments. I know you (Fencer) are trying to limit the number of general message boards, but could we PLEASE have a "General Politics" board? I can't be the only one that is getting tired of people arguing politics (in the General Chat).

Purple, no kidding. I think they would only have to make sure there is no foul language and the topics are political. Of course any blatant personal attacks would have to be deleted. But a certain amount of leeway would have to be given.

and some debates.. well.. how would one determine if it were debate or flaming.. I think the reason they don't have that board.. is due to the constant stress it would create.. at least in a public board.. haha

Maybe not. Discussions ate the Debate Club board are always very civilized, even with so different points of views...

NOT a floosie
There are fellowships on this site where politics can be discussed without having them on General Chat. I, for one, would object to having a Politics on a public board.
